Can we appoint this guy to do all amp reviews at Sweetwater or something? I mean, using those same guitar tracks across all models of amps like he does it just killer! Two of my better amps were picked from his reviews. These have to be the best amp reviews on the planet! Even if the amp sucks, the review is perfect!
This amp sounds glorious. Wow! I only play at home though and it seems overkill, but I love the sound of 6L6's. I play mostly clean or at the edge of breakup for blues. It seems perfect for this.
Thanks for the good quality, no-nonsense demo. If you're a professional gig guitarist, this amp makes an electric guitar sound like an electric guitar should. With your stomps or effects, you will get you all the sounds you need, and with any style guitar. If you can't get a good sound it's going to be because of you, but thats usually the case with anything isn't it. The only question is quality and reliability/roadworthyness (is that a word :)?
This amplifier sounds fantastic. Will be buying one by August 2020 if all goes well. Great tone, and weight is manageable at 50lbs, give or take. Clean tones are what Fender has done since the 1950s, and they do it Very Well.....!!
Thanks for this awesome demo, i got this amp and i love it, after adventures with non usable with pedals H&K Tubemeister 18, and too bright and thin sounding but cute Blues Junior IV, this one is a keeper, amazing pedal platform, both clean and drive channel (gain on 4), and second -6db input makes it alot more usable at home.
Probably the best amp review ever! Every other jerk who reviews something loves their voice than the object. Plus they play loud, distorted crap that many people don’t want. THANK YOU, SO MUCH.
So I need to downsize my rig from my 68 custom twin, and i play a jazzmaster with thick strings tuned down to b. I was looking at a Blues Junior but the reviews seemed to say the bassy-ness was lacking. Would this amplifier keep the low end of a baritone well? Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks!
If you have twin reverb go for a deluxe reverb. I have a hrd iii and i really love the clean tones but its very loud and the drive channels are very weird for my taste . But if you want to sell your twin reverb and keep some money for pedals the hrd is a good choice.
actually i had a 68 blackface twin an early 70,s super reverb an a 91 lace senser strat. the ampsso warm i bent my pick into playing them, beautiful, but banjo like sound an just too warm..no attack,or whatever the word is,too lush,an a little spanky though..very lush an warm.....
I don't know, 40 watts, all-tube 1x12 combo amp... I mean, I've played with a Vox AC15C1, which is an all-tube 15 watts 1x12 combo amp... And I didn't even get past half the volume knob, while playing with my rock band live on a mid-sized venue. I must say, I am the only guitar player on the band, and we don't play "soft" rock. Yes, this amp is going to give you more than just enough for a live band.
At 3 to 4 (7 to 8 o clock) on the volume on this amp, it's nearly matched to my Orange CR120 (150 watt) running out of my 2x12 at around 11/12 o clock which is my go to stage volume) - this thing is MASSIVE and COMPRESSED. In love with this, especially the new Tweed exclusive from Guitar Center. A must buy.
Brad Haris i have a les paul and a strat too, and i'm between the hot rod deluxe and the dsl too. What a coincidence. What did you choose though?! i need help too
Greg Giannikos I ended up buying a joyo ultimate drive distortion pedal and a Ibanez ts9 so now I’m definitely going with the hot rod deluxe. My pedals can basically give me that tight British distortion sound and I can have amazing cleans from a fender amp.
Brad Harris thanks for the advice. Have fun with your new gear. Can i ask...is the hot rod deluxe for home use?! I live in the middle of nowhere but either way I'm considering the blues junior too. Because...it is 40 watts and...yeah it seems a bit too much Thanks
I have a Blackster club HT 40 and love the od but don't like much the clean sound. Expect to trade it with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Wonder if it is a good move....

Great vid man. I noticed that you also have done videos on Fenders new line of pedals (pugilist, Santa Ana and Full Moon.) In your opinion which of the pedals sounds closest to the overdrive on this amp?
Idk what noise you mean. If it’s a hum it could be bad electric in your house or it could be improper shielding in your guitar. I get noise when playing with overdrive on high. But I don’t get any noise otherwise. If it’s any other sound maybe check your tubes for a microphonic tube or something. You could look up the noise of forums too.
The first 4 minutes were of the amp alone without any pedals. He demonstrated a plethora of tones with various pickups in that time. If you weren’t able to hear “what the amp comes with” during that time then I don’t know what to tell you. Pedals were used at the end because this amplifier is notoriously popular for use as a pedal platform and there are individuals who are curious how the amp takes drives and such. This was a well done demo that covered all of the bases.
Yes, it's because the drive channel has a higher load then the other and lower volumes, if you turn the amp up the click sound goes away. Still weird though
Hm. I only have a crackling issue with my 1991 deville. I think a lot of that is just up to luck. Electronics go bad. The crackling is from a manufacturing error fender made. Using the wrong resistors.
Ian Jesson from what people say, yes... Fender claims to have improved the volume knob response, but it's still 40w, I wonder why didn't they just made the wattage selectable or some kind of power scale thing on this
I have this wonderful amp, i live in a flat and i haven't any too power problems. You have to be careful and set the volume knob quite less than 2. You can't play by night of course, and you can't put the volume knob to 4, but if you are smart, you could play through this beautiful amp even in a small home.
I just buyed this amp, he's "too loud" in a way that the volume button has a very quick response, you are at 70% of the amp at 6/12 to correct that, use an Equaliser that you wire on the effect rack of the amp. By turning down the general volume button of the egaliser it will permit to have a more biggest range of volume control, will be easier to set up gigs and play at home ;)
Hi! What dou you think of the clean channel of this version? I read about a "lack of headroom" on this one, but i can't find one to try outif it's true or not. The old versions are great pedal platform amp, and i just want to be sure that this also is one of them. Thanks
I have a 1991 deville and I don’t notice any hiss but idk what you consider super low I usually play a bit below two with my guitar at like half volume to 3/4. It could just be my untrained ear but I do hear a crackling. It’s obviously not the 4 but maybe you just got duds
It does hiss a bit, but that’s the nature of tube amps. Live, with loud volume and full band it’s not a problem. But on a quiet setting at home and at low volumes ( ex: at a volume you can hear your own strings ringing on the guitar) it’s noticeable ( but it isn’t super hissy either, just a bit of noise). I love it, great gigging amp. Never failed me ( knock on wood!).
Just wondering, I’m mainly a bedroom player, would this amp be ok for stuff at home, or is it too loud? I would go and try one out, but no music shops near me have it in stock
It is a pretty loud amp but still sounds good at lower volumes. I have the 212 version. I run a Line 6 helix in the effects loop which allows me to attenuate it. You can also run a volume pedal in the loop. It does the same thing. But even without doing that it is ok.
The volume knob is kind of misleading. You have a volume and a master. You use the volume to manipulate the tubes more than the output of the amp, allowing you to go into natural overdrive while maintaining a decent volume level.
@@aaronpool3132The Master only works on the Drive & More Drive channels - turn up the Volume (Clean Channel) and you start to get break-up around 5-6 with the stock tubes
Good demo. I currently using a Hotrod deville III 212 which is my beater for gigging. I'll only use the clean channel (which sounds phenomenal!) because I need many different pedals for doing cover band shit and it takes pedals really well. I simply refuse to use the dirty channel on this amp! I really don't understand why Fender just can't seem to get their dirty channel right on the HRD range. No matter what version it is, the dirty channel imo always sounds like shit!
This amp definitely sounds best with Gibson guitars. 1) Les Paul 2) SG 3) Maybe a telecaster would do. I would not match the Stratocaster with this amp.
I play a Strat with a Fender Bassbreaker 007 and it sounds amazing but I would not buy this particular amp because I didn't like the match (Strat with Hot Rod Deluxe IV)
Could not agree more!
He was also the best guitar teacher, i ever had!
That's a lot of tones in under five minutes! An outstanding demo. It sounds like another perfectly decent blue collar amp, nothing more, nothing less.
Love these “no talking” demos
Sounds even better turned up high, and you can put a jhs little black box amp to bring the full tube power at low volumes. Sounds amazing
This amp sounds glorious. Wow! I only play at home though and it seems overkill, but I love the sound of 6L6's. I play mostly clean or at the edge of breakup for blues. It seems perfect for this.

Your reviews/demo are so great, keep it up! There‘s basically no one out there who makes better demos.
this and the jvm are best gigging amps by a long mile, they cover so much tonally and sound great with many guitars.
Thats how reviews should b done
Totally agree.
That amp sounds really good I love it
No stupid comments, just demo - that`s what I need. GREAT!
This video is the best hot rod deluxe demo
Awesome vid. No fluff or BS.. just right to the point. Thank you
Thank you for offering clean tones...be safe.

Hi sir, how you did -6db?
Thank you for this very good demo
0:18 that is what we need!
No reverb with my HRD, i hear the spring sound when im tapping on the tank but there is no reverb when playing
check the connections on your tank. I had the same problem and the tiny wire coming off the pickup was broken.
Probably the best amp review ever!
Every other jerk who reviews something loves their voice than the object. Plus they play loud, distorted crap that many people don’t want.
THANK YOU, SO MUCH.
Some people do like loud distortion. You should definitely always play clean, overdrive, and maybe a pedal just to show how it takes pedals.
Excellent review! Great job!😎👍
Amazing. Thank you!
Very well done! thanks
can you please share the guitar tab of the 1:05 please :D
Great work and guitar player

I had a Blues Junior IV and the bass indeed was lacking. The tone was great, but maybe the bigger enclosure holds bass better
What the difference between this a previous models? I have 1996 USA
I have a 1991. Do you have the crackling issue. I heard it’s a bad resistor from manufacturing
Interesting. The IV in my experience is more harsh than the III.
4 sounds better I thought the 3 did until I bought the 4 way nicer sound
Older ones are always better😆😆😆bullshit
what mic you use ?
Hi what mics did you use ? :)
Can you please do Roland Jc-40? It is time.

If I want HRD IV mostly for home use, this amp would still useful?
Yes, but you'd have to keep the volume at around 2 since in my experience the amp is quite loud, unless you're using an attenuator.
if you live in the country with no neighbors around.
THANKS!
Is this loud enough for a live band?
Should be planny

this amp gets LOUD. this is easily louder than a drummer at not even half volume.

Marshall DSL40CR vs Hot Rod Deluxe IV when it comes to versatility? I need some opinions. I play through a Strat and les Paul.

WHERE IS THE TAB FOR 1:05 ???
Slow down the play back speed & let your brain make the tab
no pure clean sound. why?
very great! howe can you have the master so high without almost any noise. i have .both very noisy?

How reliable are they now? I always see the same problem with them, junk cheap caps and power resistors burning the PCBs
Been using mine for 20 years and it continue to be a workhorse. The clean channel run loud is really very good. And very loud.
John Hill I have one that’s almost 30 years old. Still works fine.
How did you mic this amp?
Does the amp come with footswitch?
Yes they do, I got one
Why use a pedal? I want to hear what the amp comes with

Yeah, it's normal, you would not hear it if you play loud.
Yes, it's because the drive channel has a higher load then the other and lower volumes, if you turn the amp up the click sound goes away. Still weird though
What is he playing at 0:49
Guitar I think
raggea jammin monnnn
Be careful I own a hr 3 fairly new and hardly used having an issue with the pilot light dimming and blinking I’m not happy
Hm. I only have a crackling issue with my 1991 deville. I think a lot of that is just up to luck. Electronics go bad. The crackling is from a manufacturing error fender made. Using the wrong resistors.

Well it has P90s and he's got the treble cranked. That makes for a harsh tone.

R u frikin crazy or wat. Get a life. Better still get a new set of ears

old super reverb sounds warmer richer........
Yeah but Super Reverb costs 2,5 times more for new one than HRD4, and old amps probably even more.
and is like 80 pounds
I prefer the deville 3 personally.
