    Hey, here's a thought. When the Greenland ice sheet melts, ocean levels will rise and the 25% of the world's population that lives in coastal cities will need a new place to live... how about Greenland? It will have all of that new real estate, fertile glacier free soil and a balmy coast. Make Greenland Green Again.
    (yes, I'm being sarcastic)

      The bottom of the Greenland ice sheet is way below sea level!
      Greenland would become a ring of islands. Probably with less landmass than now.

      "25% of the world's population that lives in coastal cities will need a new place to live" If that were true, coastal real estate like Vancouver BC, San Francisco CA, and Miami FL would be cheap (to price in the future coastline), but they're the most expensive.

    • @TheOdontocetes
      @TheOdontocetes 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greenland is currently pressed down because of the heavy ice on land. When the ice melts, the land will rise so that more land will be above sea level than if you just assume the high to be constant.

      Lmfao those people really are stupid! I get the impression all these rediculous conspiracies, such as flat earth theory, arise from people with low IQ not being able to comprehend or even slightly grasp an idea or subject.
      The hilarious thing is, all these flat earthers are spreading their theory on cell phones, which also uses GPS, without realising that, if the Earth was truely flat, that very peice of technology, as well as the 'satellite TV' they probably watch wouldn't be remotwly possiable. The level of stupidity is astonishing!

    I love how it went from global warming to climate change. They realized just how full of it they were and had to back peddle somehow. The planet goes through cycles of warming and cooling. We have no idea how fast or how slow it happened over the history of the planet. Data we can collect doesn't even scratch the surface. Planet Earth will find a way to balance itself. Whether humans will be here to witness it doesn't matter.

    The oceans water serface is 207 times the serface of Greenland. In order to raise sea levels 20 feet there would have to be 4512 feet of ice on the entire surface of Greenland. This number Includes a 9% expansion when water freezes.I believe in global warming but you don't have to be apocalyptic about it all the time.

  • @surfmusicman

    I find it interesting that the ice time lapses you have shown here never showed anything past the last El Niño, even though we are actually in a La Niña year. There is currently more ice than this video makes it seem like, when I look at actual current data. It would be nice to actually see you show up to date data, as opposed to older data when it was warmer, as happens during El Niño. I guess that doesn’t fit the narrative too well, that we are warming the planet with CO2, and therefore harder to blame everyone for the false narrative.

    • @underwater5474
      @underwater5474 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you increase CO2 in the atmosphere you increase the amount of energy the atmosphere absorbs from the sun. Nobody argues this point. We know the CO2 increases are due to the burning of fossil fuels because the added CO2 lacks C14. Fossil fuels are old and all the C14 they once had has decayed.

      Wattsupwiththat.com is not a reliable source regarding climate science. But anyway, absorption spectroscopy is a basic lab technique. We use it to figure out what's in the atmospheres of distant planets, for example. So arguing that CO2 doesn't absorb infrared is like arguing that physics is wrong.

    I don't see why a lot of places on the shore cannot make like a salt water treatment plant and turn that water into fresh water. Millions of people a day using desalted fresh see water would have to bring the level of the seas down. And maybe they can make some kind of steam generated energy plant front salt water

      It would also be a literal drop in the ocean.
      The water consumption of even the largest metropolises does not even register on the scale of the arctic.
      Its hard because the human brain can´t understand either dimension (millions of people or the size of the arctic) but the numbers are there.

      You’re not funny, Mr “Childrape”.
      Even though I know you’re likely a troll, I’ll still explain for others that may not know and stumble across this. It was called global warming because it was easier to explain that to people at the time. What climate change truly is, is weather becoming more extreme. Cold becoming colder. Hot becoming hotter. Natural disasters being more intense and common.

  • @Toluca47
    @Toluca47 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Irreversible trend? So, since it's irreversible, then we can stop talking about it, and plan for it. The one thing that humans are very good at is adapting. And since climate change is natural; the hundreds of billions of dollars wasted on trying to stop the climate from changing should be used for better (non-political) projects.

    • @altrag

      If we take the ocean as a metaphor for natural climate change.. the current trend is akin to the 2011 tsunami that hit Japan. Yeah its still technically a wave in the ocean, but the impact is just a _little_ bit more extreme.
      As for planning for it.. the US in particular isn't doing anything in that vein either. Trump's just got his head stuck in the sand and doesn't even want to hear anything that disagrees with his opinions (or more to the point, disagrees with his friends' bottom lines.) Which is why the US is the only country in the world that failed to sign onto the Paris accord. And all that accord does is basically state "yeah we agree its a problem." There was zero commitment involved. And Trump still wouldn't go for it because he refuses to even acknowledge the issue. As usual, he doesn't know what he's talking about and he doesn't want to know. All he cares about is the number of rich people who stroke his ego and call him a good boy.

    • @momololo3223
      @momololo3223 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, humans very good at adapting. But do you want suffer more economical losses from climate change? Your crops won't grow nicely if the climate went hot.
      And alternative crops won't profit much.
      We can live in any habitat, but you're idiot if you don't consider the profits and losses.

    • @Lawliet734
      @Lawliet734 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There will always be winners and losers with climate change. We've had both warmer and cooler climates in the past. Cooler regions like Canada and northern Europe may actually benefit from a warming trend. Never think that change will bring only losses!

    • @altrag
      @altrag 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +L Lawliet You obviously don't really understand the issue. Canada definitely will not benefit if we lose all of our cold-adapted forests and fauna due to rising temperatures. Especially if we lose them faster than we can import and grow warmer weather replacements. And that's assuming we can even manage to do that without causing a whole host of other unintended consequences.
      Its not just a matter of getting to wear our shorts for more days in the summer. Its potentially a total readjustment -- and if we're not careful a decimation -- of our entire ecosystem.

  • @nerdlingeeksly5192

    climate change is a natural phenomenon right now the earth is going through its warming period caused by the rotation of the Earth in comparison to how far away or close it is to the Sun as well as the Suns growth as it ages it grows in heat and size carbon while it does affect the heat on our planet it is very small in comparison to the rest of the natural causes of our planet heating up the polar caps melt during great warming periods then they grow back during ice ages or otherwise known as freezing periods the earth has already been through a few ice ages and each one eventually ended with the planet heating up

      ur fucking stupid if u believe the suns growth is the cause of global warming it would take millions of years to show an effect and not decades and the other reasons u mention doesnt explain the rapid increase in temperature that has occurred since the industrial evolution

    • @Robbiekilljoy69
      @Robbiekilljoy69 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That’s all very wrong. Yes climate change is a relatively natural thing that does happen, however it happens over many thousands and millions of years which gives the flora and fauna plenty of time to migrate and adapt. However the change is happening very rapidly, over the period of a couple hundred years which is only seen in extinction level events (i.e ice ball earth which occurred thanks to the evolution of photosynthetic Cyanobacteria which caused a rapid decrease of temp). Also no, climate change never has and never will have anything to do with the sun getting larger or growing. We’re still in the Goldilocks zone and will be for the next few billion years. En bref yes climate change is natural in slow long periods, but what’s happening now isn’t normal and isn’t natural

    • @Bill-zp2mt
      @Bill-zp2mt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We are going into a small ice age period. The sun has a 11 year cycle. The growth of the sun, is something that happens over billion of years. Billion with a B, not something we will notice over thousands of years.
