I have listened to a number of versions of this beautiful song, but the softness of John Winn's voice and emotion is the most beautiful and touching to me.
Thank you Linda, It was by chance that I heard Bobby sing "Tomorrow is a Long Time"" that day in 1962 but now even at 88 I still hear his feelings whenever I sing his beautiful love song. I hate to sound like a broken record, but this song is so so good. Every time I hear it I hear more depth & subtlety. Just beautiful. As someone said earlier, my favorite version of my favorite Dylan song. Only a small handful of covers best the original of any song. This is one of them.

It's funny, you wrote this comment 7 years ago. I heard it for the first time today and commented above. Then I scrolled down and started reading other comments. Seems like we're on the same page. You're far less verbose which seems more truthful, it reads like a Hemingway sentence.
This song never gets old, and John’s rendition get better with every listening. And as always with John, his picking is beautiful.

In the end it is the truth that produces the music of the spheres, the heavenly tones. It's never been about range or vocal gymnastics. Even a pitch perfect opera singer belting to the rafters ring hollow if the singer is not connected to the meaning of the language. I don't know this musician yet but he sure sings the truth! It's so very beautiful!
A song I come back to again and again. John's cover is so full of heartfelt emotion, as though he had just said goodbye to a dear friend.
Dylan's was raw emotion; John's is tempered by a lifetime of loves and loss, more resigned than raw, as though he's been here before.

Yes Lucas, it is a song of beautiful sadness that I've carried with me for over half a century. Most recently I sang it A cappella at a reading of my book, "This Singin' Thing" and the effect on the audience was still magical after all these years. That you found it so moving is a tribute to both Bobby and that special moment in time.

I noticed Dave Von Rock in a number of the photos with Bob Dylan and his sweetheart. I saw Dave von Rock at the Van Dyke in Schnectady a couple of years before he died and actually got a chance to talk to him.
Dammit, John, both the song and you yourself are beautiful. You may have achieved the supremely rare feat of topping Bob on his own song. There's only been two or three other people who have done that, all time. Congratulations on playing a perfect song.
The song was the message and I, as an old troubadour am honored to still be a messenger. Comments such yours encourage us elder folk to keep on singing. My thanks for that.
Maybe someday someone will invent the right words to truly explain how lovely and wonderful your version of this song is. Until then, I'll just have to live with saying that I'm in awe, and that you're magnificent. But that's still a poor description.
