The air rifle only scope thing is mostly about springer/gas ram guns having extra violent recoil both forward and back due to the internal shifting mass. Pcp guns like you have here should be fine to put any ol scope on it if you wish.

      You are correct.
Last week i zeroed an scope on my weihrach hw57, 12fpe springer.
Tested some pellets and didn't like the results.
Found out the action/stock screws werd not even tigth, new out of the box!
      Problem solves rigth?
Tried all pellets again, every shot went lower and lower.
Was thinking, i do not use a scope stop, looked at the scope and the rear ring had already slided halfway of the dovetail.
Beginner mistake, was thinking a scope stop is not important on a 12fpe airgun😂

So cool to see you do this video. Big bore PCPs take air rifles to a level most people have no clue about. Some of them send .50 caliber slugs down range at over 1000 fps with muzzle energies up to 800 ft/lbs. I've been wanting an Air Force Texan for quite a while now. By the time you buy the gun and the compressor, and a decent scope you'd be into the damned thing for $2500. I know I'll talk myself into buying it some day, though. That Dragon Claw is a sweet looking gun. I believe it'll even shoot bolts. Great video.

    • @notsosilentmajority1
      @notsosilentmajority1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Wow, your comment could be mine. Same, same and same, lol The Air Force Texan is a beast and every time I do the math I end up looking at "real" firearms instead. I always think about what I could get with $2500 for real firearms, ammo, etc.. Shoot, I could buy a real nice safe for that too. I'm going to eventually get the Air Force Texan or something similar, I just have to save some money and stop looking at more firearms, lol.
I agree with your statement brother. I hope you get yours soon.
      Best of luck. 👍

Try looking for a used Korean, maybe a samyang like in this video. Or a Shin Sung, were the samyangs(air venturi/senecas) are copies from.
They are old, but built to last, the barrels love everything you out in it, mechanically it's really simple, easy to tune, all parts are easy to (have) machine(d)=cheap spare parts.
      Shin sung dragon=.50
      Shin Sung fire= .357
There are more models, even lever action 9mm repeaters.
Shin sungs are pretty cheap in the usa of you can locate them. People rather buy a new Seneca/Sam yang because they think they are better quality.
The quality of an older shin sung is wat better. I have 20+ years old ones with zlero issues besides o rings changed.
They can be power tuned without hazard.
Do not power tune a Sam yang without replacing the cocking lever and the sliding thing over the barrel to load!!
The cocking lever snaps often when power tuned and the sliding thingy exploded when power tuned!

Since those are cast round balls, they have a sprue cut on them. To get the best accuracy, you need to place the balls into the chamber with the cut oriented the same way each time. I think the best results will be obtained by placing the sprue cut to the rear so that your thumb can feel the cut as you push it into the chamber. Consistency will definitely help accuracy.

  • @Dutch.1722

I got my first PCP about 18 months ago. Started casting my own slugs after I got my first big bore. You can purchase pure lead from Roto Metals and have delivered in a few days. I'm casting .308 slugs for $.03 - $.05 per slug. Of course 50 cal or 45 cal will run a little more. I also cast from Wheel Weights for almost free. Air Gunning has been a bunch of fun! My primers and powder are staying on the shelf! Great video!

Definitely got to get you on a Springer or gas piston break barrel like one of the Gammos that has a magazine feeder. It's an inexpensive, 10 shot magazine fed break barrel in .177 or 22 caliber and take that sucker squirrlin. It's a whole different style of shooting called an artillary grip. Instead of a firm hold and easy release of the trigger you have to hold the gun loose at it's balance point, pull the trigger and let the rifle do what it's gonna do. Springers are the reason you need an air rifle scope, not the pcp rifle like the Dragon Claw. The PCP just lets the pressure go and that shoots the pellet. Springers throw a ram forward and that creates the air pressure that forces the pellet out of the barrel. So you have this big ram shooting forward, slamming to a halt with air pressure and while it's reversing direction and going back the pellet is accelerating down the barrel and the gyrations caused by all of that are uncontrollable. Thing is, if you hold it the same way every time the rifle will go through all the same commotions the same way every time and the pellet will go to same way every time . You adjust the aim for where it hits AND it hits there every time (not accounting for wind).
The magazine fed portion makes videos easier for you as it's as simple as cocking the rifle and you go. Almost lever gun fast.
Because you pump the air into it when you load the barrel, you don't have to keep a tank of air with you. Makes it a good truck gun. It'll ride around back there with no worries for you till you need it. See some game or pest that is 22 cal size just pull the rifle out, cock it and sling it. And it's a pellet gun so most places there's no licensing/background check. Last tin of 500 pellets I bought cost me round 20 bucks. Even cheaper in .177 caliber which will take rabbits, squirrel and vermin. A whole lot of plinkin for next to nothing.

Black Powder "marksman" here.. (i.e. I can shoot). Those round balls are pretty badly uneven. If you were to weigh any on a decent scale you would find a substantial difference in weight between them. Try some quality .50 call balls made for black powder shooters. Your groups will improve markedly. Once again, those rounds you have horrible 'sprue' marks making them uneven as hell.

    • @michellewilt4479
      @michellewilt4479 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I'm fairly new to black powder shooting, but I noticed the same thing. Those round balls for the air gun are really bad quality, they wouldn't come within ten feet of any of my black powder firearms. I'd be worried that the sprue marks and off center weight distribution would mess up my barrel even through the patch. I can't imagine that they'd be good for an air gun either.

Nielsen Specialty Ammo makes some of the best most consistent air gun ammo. When I first got into air guns, I purchased one of the brands at the store and they were very inconsistent in weight. They also were made from an alloy that was harder than lead which prevented a good seal between the rifling and ammo.

Time to take it to 100 yds! Might even try "poor man" tethering. Fill your big bottle up the same pressure that your rifle uses then connect it to the rifle, open the tank valve and leave it open. The rifle will pull air from your large tank as you shoot. It will keep your shots much more consistent when shooting at distance. Just make sure you don't have your big tank filled to a higher pressure than the gun will take. I would expect doing the poor man tether will maybe get you 30-50 pretty constant shots. Maybe more than that even depending on how the rifle uses it's air. If you want to get a real tethering rig look up Huma in-line regulators. They allow you to connect to 4500 psi tank and reduce the pressure to a safe level for the rifle. Of course this is for bench rest style shooting. if go this route, my make find you have an accuracy node at less pressure than the rifle's max fill. example: your group you shot, think the first shot was high then the group settled down and started grouping tighter. You might find that lowering your fill pressure by 100-200 psi gives tighter grouping. That's one method of tuning the accuracy of a non-regulated rifle. keep the videos coming!!

The round balls made for black powder are hard cast, airguns do not like hard cast.
I have used them, but use soft cast now.
I buy them from a guy who knows how to make them. He has made a control on his Lee pot, constant themp=constant weigth and size, and he thumbles the sprue of.
I can't duplicate the quality he makes.
    I use them in 9mm.
Soft cast flattens like a pancake, the harder lead punches to 4 inches of pine in 1 of my airguns.

And I haven't found it any cheaper than pyramid air and with the price of the gun shipping's free. Winner winner. So the scope for a center fire rifle is built different from a air rifle scope. It will destroy a center fire rifle scope. Correct advice a nice firearm. You can get very easily sucked in the air rifle world... suppressors are available and you can get them easily.. hunting... precision shooting... expensive to very affordable.. easily modified . A penetration test using plastic gallon water jugs would be great with this rifle using the round balls. You can use swaged lead .490 diameter 180 grain lead .50 caliber muzzle loader round balls in it too. The power is similar to shooting a .50 caliber Hawken with a patched round ball and 40 grains of 3f black powder. I noticed how you like the PCP air rifles but I stick with the break barrels because they are less likely to break and don’t need to be refilled with compressed air but I do love the power of that dragon claw and if I ever got me a PCP that’s the one I would get

Go with a .30 cal. Plenty of power for coyotes and smaller. I’ve killed rock chucks well past 200 yards and I get 70 shots not 5.
However, my airguns are also 2,000 lol
Check out the umarex gauntlet in .30 cal it’s the best pcp on the market for the price. You can pre order it on prymid air

Not to brag, but I’m shooting 1 hole at 50 yards and inch groups at 200 yards with both of my airguns. (Takes ALOT of work to get there) but I’m shooting .30 and .25 caliber.
    30/s shooting 44g slug 980fps
    .25/s shooting 37g slug 970fps
Both guns are getting around 65-70 shots per fill.
Fx maverick sniper in .25 cal
Vulcan 3 slug gun in .30 cal

Hey buddy, cool video. Nice group with the Seneca Dragon Claw. Now you need to order some ammunition from Neilsen Specialty Ammo. I have ordered quite a bit from him. You will be able to get some really consistent and accurate ammo, and some devastating hollow points. Tell him Ryan sent you his way.

Federally none, a few states like NJ have restrictions but for the most part you can go crazy and it’s the same with muzzle loaders you can have a no10 cap .22 parlor pistol all the way to homemade smokeless powder muzzle loading monsters... yeah smokeless muzzle loaders are a thing.

Don't get too upset about the round balls. If they don't fully engage the rifling it will be like throwing a knuckle ball. Just like bb's.
