    Fun video!!! Loved it!
    With foam clay you just need a few drops of paint… to much paint reactivates it and makes it sticky; and that’s why the flowers don’t look fluffy…
    I think they pour paint on it in the reference video just for the wow effect

  • @kimieatsu

    I just wanted to mention that there are many types of air dry clay and it seems Chloe is using foam clay. I would highly recommend trying cold porcelain clay instead which you can pre color with oil paints or pigments. White foam clay is very sticky and hard to work with.

    • @kimieatsu
      @kimieatsu 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +32

      @@skylightergacha6791 hi, I don’t really know why I need to clarify this, but I was offering an alternative for other people if they wanted to try this project not an attempt to criticize what’s shown in the video. White foam clay is not easy to work with or make smooth shapes with so I wanted to let people know that there are better options.

    • @ChloeRoseArt
      @ChloeRoseArt  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +63

      I got what she used in the video 😫 I’ve only used different types of air dry clay before for figurines. Someone else mentioned that maybe mine was too warm?? Who knows, it sucked 😂

    • @kimieatsu
      @kimieatsu 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      @@ChloeRoseArt I promise it’s just that white foam clay is extra sticky. Cosplayers use black foam clay and it’s not like that but obviously you have to paint it afterwards. My intention was to just give others another option that might be easier to use.

    With the hand print one, I think it could be interesting to paint your hand multiple colors sort of randomly and get inspiration from the colors as well as the shape. Your hand could become a circus, carnival, or rainforest, etc.

    You mentioned your Himi gouache dried out - I've seen other creators restore it by adding water, letting it soak in, then mixing it! So it's not dead, just needs some work to come back. 😊

    • @Sparklove1
      @Sparklove1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      I also just discovered that Himi has a spray for their gouache paints that keeps them wet (and supposedly mold free because it doesn't use water which can have the potential to breed bacteria) even if you don't use the paints often. Seems to have pretty decent reviews on Amazon.

    0:45 Here's a hack for you ... go to your local carpet store and ask them if you can have any empty/used carpet rolls. It is a cylinder that can be up to 12 ft long/tall. (That's how your living room carpet would be delivered when it's shipped to your local store). Now THAT would make a super huge marker ... if you have the floor / wall space, of course.

    Painting the black over the random colors reminded me of such fun as a kid. Limited supplies "back then" = covering a paper with multiple crayon colors then covered this completely with black crayon.⚫️ Yes, arm tired! And even tho I made this, I always thought it magic as I
    drew whatever with sharp utensil & seeing the colors come through...I remember using a nut pick. Hmm!

    I used to make scratch art with my daycare kiddos - gave us all an excuse to use the crayons that gathered dust! I always advised to use a heavy hand with the crayons because a thicker waxy layer made sure our black paint wouldn’t stick to the paper. I also loved how accessible the craft is because we tend to all have a ton of crayons hanging about and hopefully everyone has a little dish soap too!

    Hullo Chloe Rose, I have enjoyed watching your videos for quite some time! I saw a few comments on the “quality” of your air dry clay. I believe that if you don’t want to paint the clay, just use colors and Sculpy clay. Form your flower pieces and bake. It is a much better quality “hack” on the subject of a hack anything that is a short-cut to an established method of working could be called “hack”. To the knob that said crafts are not art, obviously they have never created a parade float for the Rose Bowl Parade. This is a unique art form and crafting skills are needed up and down the float! To be a crafter is to be an artist. Thank you for sharing another lovely video of creating art with us Chloe. Please take care, be safe and keep creating Art for sharing with all of us.

    Okay so I want to state I did enjoy last video and this video, even though I was one of the people that commented on the hack/project topic. This is a very fun video. I do have a Tip for you. I think the air dry clay you got is foam clay which is stickier and holds less detail. But there are also other types of air dry clay like paper clay which are less sticky and can hold more details you may enjoy working with more.
    ALSO, I got a project idea for you. You could paint your palm a stone color, press on paper then fill the inside cavity on the paper with crystals of any color you like to make a geode. For crystals you could use glass, beads, rhinestones, real crystals or even kosher salt (though you'd want to paint under the salt to add color I think)

    9:00 is, I’ve done this trick before you basically put down a good colour range like a bunch of colours and what you get is like a paper full of colours. You can do it with crayons paint whatever you want, and then might it is to add black paint on top like normal black paint, do not use body, yeah, any black paint will do so that it’s easier to scrape

  • @Littlewings1211

    I've never, ever used air dry clay that is...stringy! 😂😂 Tbh with you, Chloe, air dry clay is so inexpensive and comes in every colour imaginable as you can buy a cheap starter kit online for next to nothing. If you want more detailed and less "pre-teen," I would suggest using polymer clay. It also comes in a billion different colours and finishes (brights, pastels, metallics, glitters etc, etc). It's a similar thing, but it's baked in the oven to cure it and will stay that way after baking it. You can bake your pieces several times so you don't smush any details in a finished part while you work on the next. It's much nicer and less messy to work with, too!

    I have a hack tip weird idea thingy for people who either hate swatching or love it….. swatch your colours in random square and oblong shapes leaving spaces or not between them and ensure to leave a wide space between each row, then doodle a house/shop/pub… on each swatch and give each door a number. The numbers can be listed as a street directory below your village/city. This lets you have a cool picture to put up to reference your colours without the shame of displaying swatches (no shame if that’s your thing!).

    Just did scratchboard with elementary school students. We did black crayon over colored crayon with one group, and rainbow commercial scratchboard with the other group, but lesson plan suggested using tempera paint. We sharpened paintbrushes using a handheld pencil sharpener to make scratch tools, and the other group used pennies. I'd recommend heavier paper or cardstock for this project, and ALWAYS plan your drawing BEFORE you start scratching.

    I remember doing those scratch papers in school. we used a good card stock, and crayons or oil pastels. Then mixed a little soap with the acrylic paint (think bulk school paint quality) to help it "stick" to the oily/waxy layer and painted a decent layer on. Loved scratching these off.

    Stalactites are going down (like you drew), stalagmites are growing up. In French, it’s easy to remember … stalactites tombent (fall down) and stalagmites montent (go up).

    We used to make the scraping papers in primary school, and we just used oil pastels and then a layer or 2 of regular black watercolor on top. Worked great!

    For the air dry clay hack, Chloe! What I did was buy colored air dry clay it comes in small pouches and is quite easy to find if u search it up ,and if you don't feel like buying that you can colour tge same white clay a little tip is to add only a tiny drop of paint rather than that much and mix it into the clay that way it saves you time n your clay won't be messy at all and you can wear gloves to it won't stick that way ! (I've tried this hack before and just noticed you adding too much paint into the clay ) hope this helps! 😊

    hacks, tricks, crafts...whatever. This is fun content and I am hear for it. I really thought the hand one is a great way to get out of your head and get lost in something for a minute. That can be really helpful for artblock. I also think its a fun little date night activity too! I am also so excited for your shop opening on the 19th! That bear desk mat is just so ding dang cute. I will try my best to get my paws on it but, I have a feeling I am not the only one who will be lined up for it.

    I loved this video! I saw Jackie’s too. Y’all did some really cool things! I love the idea of the mirror. I think I would use clay that already has a color - it just seems easier. 💜💜

    I think the air dry clay was maybe to warm, it looked really stringy and melty. If you watch the original video it was not like that. I love sculpting and I have never seen air dry clay so stringy. I think you would have had an easier time if the air dry clay was not like that.

      Yeah I have to agree with someone else and you, that wasn’t air dry clay, that looked like **foam** air dry clay, not **paper** air dry clay.😂

      @@bootercup001Chloe used the exact same bag the girls used..it was the foam kind. Not sure what the og commenter said before the edit but from the new edit she wasn’t saying she didn’t use the right one just that it was too warm. I think she just used to much paint because it got sticky

      @@skylightergacha6791 Thank you this is exactly what I was trying to say. I do also agree that she added to much paint but also you can see her grabbing the clay before the paint and it looks like it was too sticky from the get go vs the OG video. The OG comment was the same I just added a period to make it more clear.

    I believe Temi popularized the first “trick” here on TH-cam with the paint samples and also used gouache paint as a way to improve her skills with that medium. She has an art book coming out with her work from this project. Her art is so beautiful and detailed. If you haven’t seen it definitely recommend her channel.

    Easier way of doing a homemade scratch card = color with pencil crayon and then coat very heavily with black wax crayon

  • @WarboysWitch

    On the scratch paper we have done it before with crayons on the background and straight black acrylic on top no need to dilute. I’ve also rehydrated himi gouache in the past just add loads of water and leave overnight with a couple of drops of clove oil to prevent mould

    The scratch paint that you did Chloe I have done the exact same thing before. There is nothing wrong with what you used to make it with but the trick I found was to cover the first layer with ordinary plastic sticky/clear packing tape and then put the layer of paint and soap on top. Wait for it to dry then scratch. 😁

    Fun channel. Thanks for all you share. Hack...use crayons; color the first layer with all different colors - patterns, shapes, no designs. Then layer a black crayon on top - when you carve out your design, it wll be multicolored.

    just a quick tip - you can remove acrylic paint from clothes with nail polish remover - be careful to check the colour fastness of the fabric (maybe on a hem?) before you apply it, and don't use too much - it works!

    The clay you used doesn’t look like the air dry clay I’ve used in the past,I’ve bought good air dry clay from The Works(I’m British so I don’t know if The Works is in America and such) but it’s not stringy or sticky like yours.

    I've done the scratch paint one but I did use craft paint from Target. I have a friend that loves to do lottery scratchers so when we took her to Vegas for her birthday one year, I made a fake scratcher so she could find out where we were going. It worked really well! I think craft paint and a higher ratio of dish soap to paint would work better. (It's been quite a few years since I did it so I don't recall exactly how I did the whole design.)

  • @dreamcherub7541

    I used to do the scratch paint technique when I was little but it was a painting of random colours underneath and then black crayon or wax pastel on top and then scratch your design through the wax.
