Everyone complaining about the judges... I think there's some sort of system and the bar is really high. It has to be perfect execution to make it to the 9, unless you're doing something really hard where switch and nollie probably give you in themselves a huge amount of points regardless of the trick itself. Unless there's some sort of standard like "landing a trick is x points, switch is y-points more, nollie is z-amount of points, sketchy landing is -a, perfect landing is d points more, adding a flip is n points, grind is what ever and combine them and it's this much points...." etc.. there's no way this is Olympic ready sports... "kick/throw the ball into the goal" "thrown this item further than others" "run faster than the other guy x meters/km" etc... in any other sports you can clearly tell how to win... so if you do a 360 blunt to a hubba or what ever... unless it was from switch/nollie or you didn't add body rotation, you can't expect to get to the 9+ maybe... but frankly yes, the standard at the moment is all over the place and there should be a clear and open system where you can have some sense what to expect if you do this or that trick. And at the end, the pureness of execution has to be the one where the runs and best tricks are judged and the contestant has to know that "if i do this run, with these tricks, perfectly, then I'll get at least 9.2" way before the competition itself :P It can't be completely arbitary.
Mtaalas I personally don’t think there is because you can tell the bigger named guys obviously get scored better than the other people, especially if the first run in the match is by a small named guy he automatically gets a low score because his run is first. Take Nyjah or yuto for example I’ve seen them get 9 point runs with tricks that were subjectivity less impressive than someone else’s run with the same amount or more falls, the problem with putting a skating point system in skateboarding is just that, the subjective difficulty of tricks, because almost everyone has a different opinion on what is difficult and how difficult it is. Plus a lot of people are already biased because these big names have already proven themselves so the smaller names need objectively difficult things consistently just to achieve the same scores the bigger people aren’t trying as hard for, but that’s just how I see it I understand it’s not gonna be a perfect system ever but some names in my honest opinion have been royally fucked by a score that should’ve been higher.
