I am sure they scored him with a heavy heart. Nyjah on the other hand is a really smart competitor who knows variety matters as much as trick difficulty, and that's why he won.
Everyone in the comments saying Giraud should have won are dead wrong. The guy did nothing but regular tricks in all of his run and best tricks. Not a single other stance! Both best trick scores were regular hardflip variations over the same obstacle, then two reg hardflips in his runs. If you skate with zero variety (same stance and tricks) then the judges should rightly dock your scores. Nyjah's tricks consisted of a huge variety of regs, switch, fakie, nollie, and a variety of obstacles. That last switch heel nose solidified it. Nyjah just skated better, I know people hate to admit it. Props to Giraud for getting his highest ever place in a major contest though!
Giraud got 85 for that first best trick?!?! Also when they forgive the judges for "knowing" someone's skill and expecting more is basically making a non impartial judgment........ Tony Hawk has talked about how this happened to him in the hay days

Aurelien’s scores seemed fair. But Nyjahs fakie flip 5-0 got overscored. He should not have got a 93.00 for that. Should be about a 90.00 which would have put him in 2nd after Aurelien’s hardflip lateflip. But then Nyjah should have got the win from the switch heel crooks. Also Gustavo’s nosegrind flip out got underscored at a 87.00. I would consider that trick better or even just close to a fakie flip 5-0 score. Not 6 points less. That’s stupid.
don’t agree. Ive been skating for +15 years, and I can tell you that fakie flip bs fakie nosegrind is both scary and difficult. Fair score. The hardflip lateflip should have gotten a 9.5 at the very least though.

@@sk8jules Well, that judges give extra credit for bringing something new too. And 360 flip is done a LOT, and especially Aurelian, Gustavo and Nyjah can basically do it on anything. So I think that might have something to do with it. I don't agree with the low score on the 360 flip 5-0 though. Ryan got robbed on that one. Honestly, I think I would have an easier time with going to nosegrind than 5-0. Also, the best case scenario for me would have been a shared first place between Nyjah and Aurelian. They both brought it, and I simply can't choose between them on this one. That said, Aurelian was a bit more well-rounded being able to go as big as he does. Nyjah's knees can't take impact anymore.
Flat to Flat has never really been judged that high. But that ( Aurelian's Hardflip late flip ) really should have been judged higher. Switch Heelflip Switch Crook is something really special as well.
I get that technically the switch flip to the grind from Nyjah was probably worth more points but Aurelien's hardflip to late flip over that gap was insane and so much more interesting. Really a shame he didn't get the higher score for that.
Wow aurelien hardflip late flip was robbed… I was telling myself that was easily a 95+ then they gave him that low score .. these judges lately have been terrible no offense 🤦🏻♂️
I think it’s just because it’s a hard flip after hard flip after hard flip, everyone needs to remember doing different various of the same tricks gets docked in competition.
The level in these finals was higher than ever. Great judging, too. Yes, the hardflip late flip was underscored, however it didn't matter: Nyjah improved on his score with the switch heel nosegrind so he would have won anyways. His best performance to date (and I'm not a huge fan to be honest, but he's undeniably the greatest street skateboarding competitor of all time).
Aurelien's hardflip bs 180 was underscored, but his accidental 3 flip "noseblunt" was overscored...his hardflip late flip was a little underscored, I think in the 93-94 range have been fair, but he still would have lost. People hate on Nyjah, but he's one of the few guys who can skate contests for so long and still bring in new tricks, it gets repetitive seeing the same ones over and over (though his lines tend to have a similar feeling). Aurelien's hustle is pretty crazy though, the guy is running 100m dashes between tricks in the line section 😂 And where is Sora at?
fakie flip nosegrind and switch heel crooks...I can't remember either being done in competition before...Aurelien brought the hardflip late flip, which was really cool
The judging today and yesterday was shockingly bad. I'm genuinely curious about the background of the judges. I don't understand how someone with even intermediate skateboarding skills could judge some of these tricks the way they did. I still don't know how Sasaki score a 75 on a perfect hardflip back lip and an 81 on a biggerflip board on the long rail, but Vincent got an 83 on a kickflip front tail on a hubba. Those tricks aren't even in the same ballpark, and it would still be an injustice to Sasaki even if their scores were reversed. I like Vincent's skating and style a lot actually, but he didn't deserve to be in these finals. Yuto got an 80 with a mind blowing NBD yesterday (that was probably the 2nd best trick of the entire contest), and Aurielian just got robbed at the end. I genuinely feel Nyjah deserved this win, but it takes away from the authenticity when the judging is so inconsistent.
Aurelien is one of my favorite skaters, his style and how fast and high he pops is insane. However, in this contest I think he was scored fairly. His ender in the run was a hardflip over the hubba, then he did the hardflip back 180 over the hubba, then he did hardflip late flip over the hubba. Difficult tricks yes, but too much hardflip : hubba. He was scored fairly because the tricks he was trying/landed were too similar and on the same obstacle. If Aurelien did like a fat 360 over the hubba like he did during the run, that probabaly would've scored better. I know he also has the treflip noseblunt, which would've scored better too. He's an incredible skater, but I think his trick selection was his downfall here.
This. You can’t be too repetitive. He basically got to practice progressively towards his hardest trick. Meanwhile everyone else is doing completely different stuff after they successfully landed a trick.
Aurelien didn't beat nyjah because nijah destroyed the hubba. Aurelien just hardflip late flipped some stairs. Is like not skating the ramp you are supposed to skate to be evaluated.
@@thathammerbro his hard flip late flip was diagonal across the stairs and OVER the hubba fool. Either way though, nijah was on fire that day... But I think judges underscored aurelians no grab standing 360 in his run, that's a hard trick and very risky
I think Aurelian was overscored on the treflip nose skid (grind, blunt?) and underscored on the hardflip lateflip, which cancels itself out. Moral of this story is gnarly flip trick variations won't win these contests. You need to innovate and be original on rails and hubbas, which Nyjah did. Never seen him do a sw heel nose grind or fakie flip nose grind at an event, and he was rewarded for it.
bueno mas allá del terrible hardflip late flip que se mandó Auri (del que todos ya están hablando), me enorgullece como argentino el score que metieron mati y maurito
People...you can't get mad at this. Yes, he had a bangin run, but NO SWITCH, NO FAKIE, NOLLIE...THIS IS WHAT RANKS YOUR SCORE. HUGE IS FOR THE STREETS, NOT A PARK CONTEST.
Exactly! Why would anyone expect a skater to win a major contest skating only regular and spamming hardflips?? Nyjah was just on another level, one of the best contest performances I've ever seen in skating!
the look of nyjah after the hardflip lateflip.. even nyjah would agree that this should be scored higher then his fakie flip nosegrind, that trick can be done easy by many pro skaters, even an amateur level... fakie flip nosegrind is also way easier then swich heel nosegrind, bot got almost same score... and the hardflip lateflip over that hubba is way harder and rare to see someone pull it off... i guess nyjah has to finish his documentary and his sponsors paying well to keep him in higher scores... no hate about nyjah, his a beast of a skater, but sometimes some of his basics get overscored compared to other tricks
Yea I don't think he won a single contest last year but was very close a few times. The last SLS that Ribeiro won I think Nyjah got robbed in the judging. But he absolutely destroyed this contest with at least two contest NBDs (last two best tricks). The goat is back!

Lateflip tricks is the next level. Switch tricks is not most spectaculary or difficult,
@@tonypeppoloni6807 okay and how many people in that contest did you see skating big switch and trying switch flips into grinds???
Giraud got 85 for that first best trick?!?! Also when they forgive the judges for "knowing" someone's skill and expecting more is basically making a non impartial judgment........ Tony Hawk has talked about how this happened to him in the hay days
57:14 Yumeka is queen of contest tech, she did a straight kickflip then turned it into boardslide when she caught it.
She’s going to be such a dominant force the next two years
EL NIVEL DE LOS SKATERS ARGENTINOS !!....DIOS MIO !!...LA ROMPIERON TODA !...
Mauro!!!! OMG BEAST of a 1st run!
funa is really improving, well deserved!!
Hardflip lateflip 9.1 is fair? Lol
don’t agree. Ive been skating for +15 years, and I can tell you that fakie flip bs fakie nosegrind is both scary and difficult. Fair score. The hardflip lateflip should have gotten a 9.5 at the very least though.
@@svante1994 each to their own i suppose. Fakie flip 5-0 is for sure a difficult trick. But i’ve been skating for over 20 years and i can tell you that i have done several fakie flip 5-0 on ledges but never done a tre flip nosegrind or a fs nosegrind nollie flip out. For me personally i would score those tricks higher than a fakie flip 5-0
@@skamarfire can you do both tricks? Fakie flip 5-0 and hardflip late flip? Are you sure you you can do the hardflip lateflip easier then your fakie flip 5-0?
Nyjah's knees can't take impact anymore.
i love how Mauro Iglesias' shirt matches his board
Aurélien Giraud hardflip late flip = min 97 basta, quelle tuerie
Highest Level on skateboarding RESPEKT (Hardflip frontfood lateflip) its amazing Trick!!!
Thanks for this Show 🤜🤛👌🙏✌️
Flat to Flat has never really been judged that high. But that ( Aurelian's Hardflip late flip ) really should have been judged higher.
Switch Heelflip Switch Crook is something really special as well.
Thanks for the replay 🙏🙏🙏🙏
yeah Chloe's run was sweet! aussie aussie aussie !
Yeah Chloe!! This made my day
É um absurdo o que essas meninas estão andando ... 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I get that technically the switch flip to the grind from Nyjah was probably worth more points but Aurelien's hardflip to late flip over that gap was insane and so much more interesting. Really a shame he didn't get the higher score for that.
regular stance with heel drag plus repeated trick
ronnie creager did aurelians same trick switch and CLEANER at tampa back in the 90s.
@Daniel S still his comments will make more likes than you'll ever get
Mens finals 1st run @ 2:08:33 🤙 yeewww enjoy
They will need to hire new judges! That was so unrespectful to Aurelien... And yeah not just him was underscored.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Giraud Robbed so hard! That hard flip late flip was easily at least 95 MINIMUM! Really sad to see this
I wish someone cared about me the way these judges care about grind tricks. Aurelien was legitimately robbed
The cheats were turned way up on Nyjah’s scores 😂💯
I want more of the camera work from Ryan decenzo's kickflip nose blunt actually felt like skating for a minute
Ils étaient au patinage artistique avant hier les juges non ?
Hard flip late flip is so clean
3:24:40 for the bullshit

Nyjah: lands a kick flip
Crowd and judges: 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Fire those judges. That late flip was next level difficulty
Wow aurelien hardflip late flip was robbed… I was telling myself that was easily a 95+ then they gave him that low score .. these judges lately have been terrible no offense 🤦🏻♂️
Ryan decenzo was underscored on all his tricks because of that gremlin shirt.
It’s a qualifier but Nyjah skating like it’s his last time skating👏 All in, I love it! Lets go team USA🇺🇸
Skateboarding for life ❤️
Hard to late flip was huge! But judges didnt amazed
The level of tricks compared to when the first SLS tournament was is crazy
Aurelian big boss!!!
No, nyjah is A king
I'm a Nyjah fan and even I agree that Aurelians hard flip late flip over the hubba was the true banger of the best tricks
I think it’s just because it’s a hard flip after hard flip after hard flip, everyone needs to remember doing different various of the same tricks gets docked in competition.
@@Jonathan-pn7rd that's true
The scoring in this event was a total discgrace ESPECIALLY on that Hardflip late flip! That trick was a 97!!
That was the most common score that people was typing in da chat on live stream :) Funny. People wanted more but got less. Dissapointing :(
That dude backing up from the microphone despite it getting closer and closer 🤣🤣
Out of all the comments disagreeing with the judges, this is the one I agree with the most
What new tricks did Nyjah bring? It seems like Aurelien is the one who brought that.
fakie flip nosegrind and switch heel crooks...I can't remember either being done in competition before...Aurelien brought the hardflip late flip, which was really cool
I loved Oda❤️
I think that is true to an extent, but there is a caliber of trick (I believe this one included) which supersedes this bias
That shouldn't be how an event is judged, repeats dont matter... it doesn't in xgames
The each run is it's own run, and should be judged as so.
Nyjah got us to the olympics dont @me
I think Aurelian was overscored on the treflip nose skid (grind, blunt?) and underscored on the hardflip lateflip, which cancels itself out. Moral of this story is gnarly flip trick variations won't win these contests. You need to innovate and be original on rails and hubbas, which Nyjah did. Never seen him do a sw heel nose grind or fakie flip nose grind at an event, and he was rewarded for it.
aurelien giraud won in my opinion, congratulations from Brazil Giraud!
bueno mas allá del terrible hardflip late flip que se mandó Auri (del que todos ya están hablando), me enorgullece como argentino el score que metieron mati y maurito
18:11 when Rizu Akama lands that 180 drift.......
The real winner was Aurelien.
I love this 😎😎😎
Hard late flip should have been AT LEAST A 94. Nyjah is the undeniable winner either way though. 👏
No...i ve ner seen an late trick like that in a contest....Aurelian should win...
43:27 Why no one can name correctly an overcrooks ???
93 for Nyjah's fakie flip-nosegrind and 91 for Aurelien's hardflip-lateflip...no
have you ever tried to fakie flip grind a hubba?
both 88 for me.
The interviewer needed translationfor “for sure” 🤣
People...you can't get mad at this. Yes, he had a bangin run, but NO SWITCH, NO FAKIE, NOLLIE...THIS IS WHAT RANKS YOUR SCORE. HUGE IS FOR THE STREETS, NOT A PARK CONTEST.
L
Exactly! Why would anyone expect a skater to win a major contest skating only regular and spamming hardflips?? Nyjah was just on another level, one of the best contest performances I've ever seen in skating!
Drinking game: Take a drink every time Chris Pastras says "dominating"
Aurelien must be get 95 score in trick 5
Treflip nosegrind def easier than Kickflip noseblunt, I'd think they'd atleaste be closer in score
What do you think of the Olympics ? Seems shoddy to me..but there has been some interesting highlights.
the look of nyjah after the hardflip lateflip.. even nyjah would agree that this should be scored higher then his fakie flip nosegrind, that trick can be done easy by many pro skaters, even an amateur level... fakie flip nosegrind is also way easier then swich heel nosegrind, bot got almost same score... and the hardflip lateflip over that hubba is way harder and rare to see someone pull it off... i guess nyjah has to finish his documentary and his sponsors paying well to keep him in higher scores... no hate about nyjah, his a beast of a skater, but sometimes some of his basics get overscored compared to other tricks
@@useless_wooden_boy5544 I can do all these tricks in my sleep.
Definitely underscored the late flip.
Wonder if this happens too fast for the judges to see in realtime
It was nice to see Nyjah skate well again. He hasn't been skating too well in some of the recent contests. I thought his days were coming to an end.
Yea I don't think he won a single contest last year but was very close a few times. The last SLS that Ribeiro won I think Nyjah got robbed in the judging. But he absolutely destroyed this contest with at least two contest NBDs (last two best tricks). The goat is back!
Am I crazy, or are two of Milou's wheels way smaller than the others? 2:12:25
