My first time watching a skateboarding contest. And I gotta say, the support and high fives going around is something you don't see in most other competitive sports. The whole scene around skating seems to be so positive and supporting.
Same here. I just got my first skateboard today and I came here to watch how the pros ride, but I honestly really enjoyed seeing the good sportsmanship in this, as compared to other sports where the team is hitting each other over nothing.
Theyre all friends and respect the grind! They’ve been competing together a long time. They just give each other props and hella humble. Most look at it as just skating for fun with friends and they happen to get placed lol they’re stoked on the sick setups

why is it surprising? every year there is bad judging...but in these events they judge based on certain things usually 1. Technique 2. Energy 3. Style 4. Difficulty 5. Execution 6. How many mistakes you made 7. Overall routine/line (if you land 1 hard trick that's cool, but was every trick you did worth a high score?)...this also includes how any tricks you can fit in within the time limit 8. Variety - ramp, rail, stairs, street tricks, etc..
Dude mega popped a fakie nose grind and did all of his tricks flawlessly and smoothly. You can argue for a higher score but that run was really good by Nyjah

Manny Santiago is just so great. You never see him yelling or snapping decks in a fit of rage, or any of that juvenile crap. So many pros quickly lose track of how lucky they are to be skating for a living and fail to appreciate their position, but Manny just loves life 24/7/365. The only time he took a break from smiling was to wince in disgust at how his *opponent* got robbed on scoring. Impossible to hate on sportsmanship like that...
I still can’t believe my boy Zion got injured. And I still can’t believe he went pro. I remember back in middle school when we used to eat together and just fuck up our local skate park. He’s the reason why I started skating and I’m just happy I got to be a part of his journey to becoming pro. Love you bro.

Anyway It's not easy to judge a contest like this, its super hard. If you were the judges ppl would be talking shit to you as well. It took me 4 years of skating to be able to do a Tre flip on normal ground consistently. These guys are doing tre flips into 5-0 grinds off 10-stair cases like it's practice. Insane.
Right???? I didn't start til age 15 and couldnt do good flip tricks for at least 2 or 3 years. Even doing clean backside 180s that looked stylish probably took 2+ years and I never did one down anything more than 3 or 4 feet tall lmao. Although a lot of these guys start super young while living in big metro areas to skate.
