I just stubbled across your channel and watched some of your older videos. Like many men across North America (and the world for that matter) divorce left a massive hole in your family life. I can definitely empathize with that. A lot of men end up living an empty life where the ex tends to dominate finances and controls the relationship that the man has with his kids. Thousands of men dream about rebuilding and look to the Philippians because of the cost value. I just wanted to say - good on you bro, you are an inspiration. I also wanted to say that I like your style of TH-cam videos, they are different from what other ExPats are posting and I appreciate your take. Keep it up, you're a survivor and your kids will respect you for finding happiness. Peace out.

@JoeJoe-v1w Thanks for taking the time to comment...I basically got tired of living for others people and decided to do something for myself before I'm too old to enjoy life. I really feel i have a unique perspective on the Philippines, one because I'm younger than most expats, and two because I live in an area of would consider to be the real Philippines...away from foreigners and resorts and fancy restaurants. I hope you will continue watching and I hope to hear from you again!!

I think you have the right attitude, at least the way I see things. Time is indeed the most valuable resource. I've developed the "if it ain't fun it ain't gettin' done" philosophy towards work in my middle age. Did the corporate hamster wheel enough. Could put in another 10 years but nah, would rather live extremely frugally and do whatever I want. Honestly I could be happy laying around reading books all day so it's not even a hardship. Living in The Philippines just makes it a lot easier with the lower cost of living. Get by on $800 or so but could easily get by on $500 a month if push came to shove. My SS is funded for the baseline when I reach whatever the retirement age is when I get to it though I doubt it will still be 62 by the time I'm 62. If SS is even still around by then. Any more cash that goes into SS from me will be from my very slow and lazy software development if I ever finish any projects and/or maybe youtube if I ever get around to bothering with that and find it entertaining🙂 You got a sub, buddy, let's see if youtube stays entertaining for you.

Maybe my attitude will change when the time comes, but for now I feel the government can just keep the social security...I can make my own money and I just feel I don't want anything from the government at this point. I know I paid in and it's technically my money, but when I left the US I felt like I left all those ties also. I still will keep up with my cdl, and passport and everything just in case but I just don't want or need their help for anything. At $500 per month it would ve a very simple life with no aircon and eating like a local...for me I always want aircon, wifi, and good food. The filipino people are so kind and welcoming, but filipino food in general is terrible. There are some good dishes but mostly I don't like a lot of their food.
