I've never seen a non indigenous Australian represent our country the way delta did. (Kylie minogue, John fahrnam or any of our local artists for that matter), deepest RESPECT for delta, and the the way she finishes at the end,by giving gurumul the applause goes to show how humble she is when she deserves to be applauded for learning the yongu language .👏👏👏👏 that wouldn't have been easy for her.R.I.P. gurumul

I found this in 2016 and have listened to it over 300 times. I love Gurrumul but, I think Delta is the most underratted performer out of Australia. She is phenominal and watching her work with winners like Alfie Arcuri in 2016 on the voice just seals the deal as an amazingly talented musician that we in U.S.A. would never get to hear if not for TH-cam! Who is watching in 2023?

Unfortunately in a referendum asking whether we should allow First Nations people to be consulted when the Government makes decisions about them, and would not have even been binding.
Yet 60% of Aussies voted NO even though First Nations people have lived in Australia for past 60,000 years, making them the oldest continuous living indigenous culture in the world.
That’s how racist & bigoted the majority of Australians are, they decided ‘why’ should indigenous people be given ‘special treatment’ despite the fact we stole their land, massacred them along with other inhumane treatment toward them over the past two hundred years.
It’s shameful on so many levels and we can only hope in future people will look back in embarrassment at our behaviour.

Aborigines came to Australia by boat too. No race and no human has the right to claim any land. We as humans are only a small cog in a very large wheel. England was invaded and its people slaughtered multiple times over history.Invasion is a human thing...not a British thing. Stop playing the victim and move on.

She isn't as popular here because her recording company waits a year before it is released to ITunes and there is virtually no promotion. This came on the radio whilst driving home last week. It has been so long since I have heard something so beautiful. No idea who was singing it. When I heard the female vocal come in I was stunned, who was that? Thank you google.
Delta is an absolute amazing talent. No girlie voice here, complete and perfect example on how to sing.

Oh My God, this is beautiful. I got chills. You can just feel the emotion from both of the singers. Delta knocked it out of the park and Gurrumul's voice is haunting. It was coming from his soul. Beautiful!!!!

If that gave you chills, the background story of "Bayini", which Michael Hohnen covers before Gurrumul's live performance will really get you.

I love the fact that Delta gave the English translation, then sang it in the Yolngu (Northern Territory) language of Dr Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu (22 January 1971 - 25 July 2017). Dr Gurrumul was born blind.

You're amazing talent, amazing voice and strong connection to our culture is truly inspirational. You give me peace in my heart & soul. May you rest peacefully, I hope you're singing in harmony with all of our old people who have come and gone before us. Xx
