Brompton Test Ride - Can I Everest On One?

Everest in a suit would have been a sight to see.
George Mallory died on the actual Mount Everest in 1926. In 1999 his body was found. It was wearing a good quality tweed jacket, and a pair of strong trousers.
(We do not know if George Mallory reached the summit, or not. There is no way of telling whether he was on the way up, or down.)
Totally understand that you might wanna keep it private - but if we knew where this hill was, it'd be great to come out and support IRL?

Add some Ergon GP4 grips, super-firm suspension block (get more power into the rear wheel), and a less spongy saddle (maybe a titanium seatpost too). Think you need a steeper hill if you're going to go to a 44T chainring and get it done in shorter distance.
Definitely agree with getting bar ends to give you more hand positions. It is hard on the wrist to have only the one position. The narrow bars contribute to the pressure on your wrists also. I have be experimenting with using a 20 inch wheel folding bike for gravel riding for the last 18 months and I have found that getting the reach dialed in is the hardest part with folding bikes. Especially for longer rides you experience a lot of pressure on your lower back. For my bike I ended up ordering a custom titanium stem to get the right reach and drop I needed. I believe Brompton also offers that option so I would get it dialed in before your attempt. The folding bike thought not designed for gravel riding lets you get to events without having to fly with a large bike case and the small wheels mean you can run wide turns easily. Clearance for 2.1 inch tires are no problem.

Great to see you enjoying a Brompton - loving the suit. Great effort to emulate the annual Brompton Challenge! I have a Brommie - they are such fun bikes. Looking forward to seeing you off-roading on it. :-)

get one! I had no reason to buy one but every week i find a new use for it. (3 other full size bikes)
Change your chain rings don't suffer for the sake of it all the best mark

Love the suit, not that you've much time to set-up being comfortable on the Brompton, bar ends for more hand positions as comfy for 200 plus reps and sensible gearing will be key.👍Best of luck

You got this Dave! Though I think it's a good idea to change your chain rings for the challenge - minimize the torque that poor Brompton is going to be under for the climb.
I think we've just discovered Bromptons are far more capable than people give them credit for.

Love the suit great 👍 touch and nice to hear the donations went over your goal. I want to get a two folding bikes and have one as a single speed the other fixed. Feel like it’d be interesting to see how it would be as a fixed gear. Nice to see you on a folding bike since I think I’m the same height as you. Nice they make longer ones better for us tall boys.

Good luck with everesting.. the only think I envisage is that u might have stiffness in the shoulders and wrists due to Brompton’s riding position n smallish handle bar, I experienced it on a 150kms ride I did on my racing green brommie recently .. would love to see u complete the course though!

alright dave - looking sharp in that suit - you nailed the communter look with the shoes and shades :) Youve got this mate...you can do the everest..it'll hurt, but you will do it..we know you can...big it up!
Hi Dave, there 8s something about the Brompton that you need to know, you really have to hold the handle bars reasonably hard at all times as any significant bump can cause the front wheel to quickly go out of line and off you will come. Good luck mate, just be careful.

Tip: get rid of the fender, change tyre to Schwalbe Kojaks and last get better grips preferably flat grips.
Those Lakes look the bomb! I recently got a pair of Bont BUT they are too narrow... they look great, the stiffness is awesome but they do not agree with my feet... much sadness!

Couple of tips after my Ride London 100 on a Brompton in a suit. Solid rear shock. Slick kojak tyres 👍
That bounce was the main thing i disliked about bromptons😊
