Nice review, I think we get to hung up about the latest and greatest at times. In the end of the day its the ride... Also less worry at the coffee stop which bike will be knicked.
got this bike. 3*9 Shimano Sora, rear rack...panniers. its my do-it-all bike and has managed to keep me off smoking for 2.5 years now...great bike, and for the price its the only bike you will ever need
Fun review and I appreciated your comments about the shifting. I press the button and it shifts. I'm a Shimano fan and I am quite happy with 105 on my bikes. Sure, I could get a lighter set with Ultegra or Dura Ace, but they don't really shift any better and weight means nothing to me when it comes to group sets. Racers obviously have different needs. I remember having one bike as a kid and it was a single speed. I went everywhere with it, I had no choice. That's why I love to ride fixed and single speed now. Reminds me of when I'd just jump on and go.
Spot on, 105 is great I’m pretty sure it’s just the weight that comes into okay on Ultegra and Dura Ace. That’s also why I love the simplicity of a single speed or fixed gear.
Dave, its a "gravel" bike! In Poland where I live you cant get a way from gravel, its normal country lanes here there ever where! Yesterday I did 55 km from my front door and back, of which 6 km was asphalt 4 km sand and the rest gravel! Country tracks and lanes for a gravel bike, basically a road bike for the "unpaved" lanes. You were saying it wasnt very good and "hard to ride down some of these slippery trails with high roots, with a low bb? So I got confused there ,because I thought you were comparing it to an MTB which it isn't! Thanks to basically you and your wife, i ended up buying a gravel bike, to go with my mtb, and I love it. I quickly learnt after criticising gravel bikes for many years that they do have a place, and that place aint down steep slippery slopes over high roots with a low bb. Their place is on the never ending flat open gravel and sandy trails which i love here! Maybe you aint got too much in the way of never ending gravel tracks in Devon, so you have found yourself treating your gravel bikes like a mtb, because you need off road narly fun somehow somewhere! That bike has "cruise" written all over it, not mtb type trails! Dave i love the videos, this aint criticism mate, I enjoyed this vlog as much as the others, but i think you were a bit too harsh on this bike, and you basically reviewed it as a type of mtb, which it aint, as apposed to a cruiser which it is!
True, thank you for the feedback. I was a bit harsh on it to be honest but I wanted to test it out for everything. For me gravel is anything that isn’t tarmac, this bike handled everything better than I expected. Thanks for taking the time to write a proper comment. Keep shredding!
Brakes, gears (who needs 'em anyway?!) and a few other components can more often than not be overlooked or learnt. You'll never regret paying decent money for contact points be that with your body or with the road. Especially saddles and tyres. Likewise, a set of good wheels will always be a more valuable investment than a top of the range frame. I know you know all this, Dave - just my two penneth and tuppence ha'penny for others who might be reading. Good luck to all who might win the bike, it's gonna be a dream!
Having a heavier winter training bike is definitely a thing. As a 365 commuter in a rainy climate, my legs get pretty strong for summer if I smash a heavier bike with grippier tires in the winter. Keep us updated on the micro shift, how it wears in, how it maintains.
I have that same bike as it comes complete from Marin. It has a 3x9 speed R3000 groupset. Trp Mechanical brakes. Wtb volt saddle. And quite solid touring wheels. The Marin 4 corners as factory built at $1000 is really really smooth and a great ride. Only upgrades where lighter wheels. And a front touring crankset. Other then that as good as bikes costing twice as much in my opinion. It doubles as a gravel bike or touring bike.
Classic Dave N, “in a very unorganised all over the place review”. Well done bloke, bike looks cool and thanks for doing it for a great cause, we blokes are sooo not good at coming forward and admitting/talking about things going on 👍🚴♂️
I own this Four Corners and Merida Silex now. To be honest, if I go epic ride with a lot of climbs. I would rather go with Silex. Much more responsive and agile. But if I want to go for multiple months touring that carry loads.Four corners is the bike.
I bought the 2017 Rasta color four corners elite on clearance it’s a bit heavy but I think I lucked out because that year was built with hydraulic disc brakes and a rival group set . Not to mention it was dirt cheap because the store was going out of business
I love my 2021 Marin Gestalt X10 - similar to the Four Corners but an aluminium frame. Microshift gearing is awesome but I agree with mechanical brakes, but maintenance on external cables and mechanical brakes are soooo easy. I thought about the Four Corners as I mainly use it for a commute but I want to get into the gravel grinding so I went a little lighter. I'd love the Headlands but the $$$ didn't stretch that far.
My Gravel bike is my workhorse, my best is the MTB, and as such is fair bit cheaper, it’s the bike that I’m prepared to take away with me, and fits into bike boxes etc. Not had a problem with the shifting by way Sora does hide the cables etc, so bit tidier. I did upgrade to twin pot but still cable disks as the single ones where just awful! I think mine they use the same frame on similar models. And it’s remarkably smooth really.
Dave im getting fluent in southern chatter now so its fine i understand you now😄😄your doing a great thing with this give away the winner should be chuffed getting this bike from you. Still a descent bike to shred about the trails on well done you thumbs up up up 👍👍👍beard is there now ready for the tache.
Awesome video Dave and we all appreciate an honest review buddy, whats the weight limit on the bike? Asking for all the big boned folk like myself. Lol
Can you please tell me where to get that bar tape? And I assume it’s a little thick and more padded than normal because it’s a gravel bike? Thanks dude
@@DaveNoakes I just like the black white combo it goes super well with my road bike or my summer bike. Not something I would necessarily put on my gravel bike because it’s an all black color scheme but my Cervelo S5 has a black and white color scheme so I would love color that bar tape.
Being a Luddite my attempts to donate might end up funding a Russian arms dealer so will do what I can with my limited techno abilities but am looking at buying a Four Corners anyway so am keen to know what size frame I'd need for a portly 5' 11" gorilla?? 🦍 Does the winner get a free tattoo as well?? ☠
😂😂 it is a great bike. I’d say probably the large. I’m 6’1” and this is a medium, definitely on the small side. The sizing chart on the Marin site is pretty spot on.
I like the way you’re honest about stuff. Even on a bike you’re giving away. Shows you’re a genuine guy.
the fact that you are going out youre way to do someone a massive favour is just pure gold Dave............the bike looks dope to me

My broke ass is so stoked to see you on a microshift and steel setup.
I was really surprised by how nice and well it works! Dead impressed.

How do the Stayer wheels compare on quality to other British makers such as Hunt and Parcour please? Any idea?
