This guy is so jaded with explaining this program, I feel like he's personally walked dozens of AD's and producers through this process and finally was like, 'Guys, let me just film it, just once, and then I'll never have to explain it again'. I love it. He's like my spirit animal.
I feel like nobody is talking about how funny this was. I completely lost it at how deadpan your joke delivery was, so unexpected for an official tutorial to be funny. 31:20 was gold. The tutorial was so clear, entertaining and informative. Very honest too about how people use the app vs what it was originally meant to do, which is a breath of fresh air when it comes to official tutorials. Everything a software training video should be. Thank you.
I used this tutorial to make a schedule back in 2019 when I was trying to make my first feature. 4 years later, I made that feature, and now I'm watching this tutorial again as a refresher to schedule my next one. Awesome video. I had no idea how to use MovieMagic Scheduling and this helped me make an accurate schedule for a produced feature.
This is a good tutorial. Professional. Glad to have it, as I needed shoring up on some things, and I learned a few things I didn't know existed as well.
Matthew, thank you so much. I hate that program. I've made most of my films without it - classic, old-fashioned scheduling. And with this new project, I was forced to schedule in MM. And you made it at least a little more bearable. Thank you so much.
Great video! Very helpful. One of the best tutorials I've ever watched if not the best. Very easy to follow along and very well spoken. Thank you so much!
Excelent! Great job, the only thing I got a bit lost was on understanding the pages, why it is displayed as "1 4/8" for example, but I'm going to search more about it. Thank you!
Apologies for the delay in response. Measuring by eights stems from a normal script page measuring about 8 inches, and thus each eighth of the page taking up about an inch. It’s easy to visually “eyeball” a script page, and estimate that a scene is about 3/8ths of a page long. It is the standard convention used by ADs to roughly estimate the time it will take to film a scene (ie. a scene that is 2 and 5/8ths pages will potentially take longer to film than a scene that is 2 and 0/8ths pages.)
I just want to point out Scene 1 is filmed at Matthew's House in his kitchen during the car chase sequence. Plus, there's a tiger on set with pyrotechnics but there absolutely CANNOT be any construction. Yet, all Matthew does in this scene is answer the phone. Oh and Allison and 10 neighbors are around but they're just vibin. What movie are we filming???
Does anyone know why this happens??? Many times after importing a script into Movie Magic, it changes the SET to lower case and the PAGE LENGTHS are completely wrong?
Thank you so much for this tutorials. I'm learning a lot! But I also have a question: I would like to create a setlist report (so per category) where I also mention INT and EXT but that doesn't seem possible anymore while this was still possible in MMS 3. Or is there a back door on how to put it in there? Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance.
I have a question once I schedule everything now I have to budget do I have to copy all this information into that program as well or once I have done the scheduling can it be imported into budgeting?
Great video and well done. Question: With so many scheduling changes, how do you keep track of what's been shot already and what has not? As i recall, do we use the Boneyard for that? I come from an episodic background where the schedule changes every 3 days. But i'm just now learning this side of the business.
How do I make a Cast per Sequence report? Regardless of how the calendar is set up, how do I manage to get this? Any insight? Is there any group or something ?
is there a way to set specific time to start a scene? something like 8am to 10am scene 1 / 11am to 12pm scene 2.... and show this time info in the scedule
Please see our video on Find Advanced, which would enable you to isolate all of an actors’ scenes in one stripboard. You can find this video on our channel.
Unfortunately, Movie Magic Scheduling does not presently have the ability to edit or customize calendar strips beyond two options -- Viewing By Set or viewing By Location.
great stuff but you missed out on two things. one is adding dates for the actor before u begin scheduling. this would enable us to see any red flags on the schedule in case we are scheduling actors work on a day when he is not present. another thing you missed is to add a free banner above each day which mentions the location/s we are shooting on and the shift time. this helps in not scheduling a 6am-6pm shift the day after you have scheduled a 2pm-2am shift. cause unit cannot wrap at 2 am and show up on a 6 am shift which is just a few hours apart. rest all a-ok.
I have two questions( I actually have many more but will probably end up finding out the answers myself through trial and error!) 1. How do I get 3 pages to show up in the strip as "3 0/8 pgs"? and 2. I would like to be able to enter the episode number and have it show up in the strip without having to type the scenes like this: 505-32, 506-18 and so on, how/where would that get input?... Thanks
Hi , I would want to know how to delete a name in SET or Cast member which i added before but now the name has been changed so i want to delete that name forever but that is not happening similarly in SET also i want to delete the name of a location forever please help

Matthew, thank you so much. I hate that program. I've made most of my films without it - classic, old-fashioned scheduling. And with this new project, I was forced to schedule in MM. And you made it at least a little more bearable. Thank you so much.
What software you did use instead, MM? I'm looking for something more comfortable.

What if you want to sort the schedule by the days of availability of the cast member? Is there an option for that?
T for banner! Made my day.
Brilliant tutorial! Thanks so much :)
Ryan Gosling breaking it down.
so helpful, thank you!😍
Thanks Mathew! You the best! *_*
In case of Montage, what should we write under Script Day?
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS
Does anyone know why this happens??? Many times after importing a script into Movie Magic, it changes the SET to lower case and the PAGE LENGTHS are completely wrong?
Very helpful video -- thank you VERY much for your time.
Thank you so much for this tutorials. I'm learning a lot!

I have a question once I schedule everything now I have to budget do I have to copy all this information into that program as well or once I have done the scheduling can it be imported into budgeting?
Is there a way to zoom in on the stripboard? I can't find an 'adjust view' etc. Am I missing something?
Is EP going to create video tutorials like this for the NEW Cloud-based subscription Movie Magic Schedule 10?
Did you work in a studio before?😮✨thank you for all these🥹do you know some other sources I can learn from about production accounting?
Great video and well done. Question: With so many scheduling changes, how do you keep track of what's been shot already and what has not? As i recall, do we use the Boneyard for that? I come from an episodic background where the schedule changes every 3 days. But i'm just now learning this side of the business.
Yes! People often use boneyard to remove scenes that have already wrapped.
My question is how do you use this for a series, thought the software should have somewhere it can do the breakdown.. still alot to learn.
How do I make a Cast per Sequence report? Regardless of how the calendar is set up, how do I manage to get this? Any insight? Is there any group or something ?

Great tutorial!
How do I print a calendar for specific actor? Which is: how do I sort out certain strips/days in which I need a certain actors availability?
Please see our video on Find Advanced, which would enable you to isolate all of an actors’ scenes in one stripboard. You can find this video on our channel.
T for banner...
Seems legit
So cute how he looks at the camera after his joke
Need a costume continuity breakdown will please uplode the video
Hi Matt. My Movie Magic App doesn't show me the option to select a "Default Template" at all. Why is this and how can I fix it? I'm a first time user.
I'd love to know more about customizing in Calendar view and what's your workflow between ADs
Unfortunately, Movie Magic Scheduling does not presently have the ability to edit or customize calendar strips beyond two options -- Viewing By Set or viewing By Location.
Well done!
