I am a half Thai myself and grew up with my family in Singapore. We are not from a higher SES compared to other families in SG that can travel to other countries for vacation. Whenever my mother and I miss our hometown back in Thailand, we would always go to our usual eating area at the first floor and go up to second floor where the supermarket is located and purchase the things that other SG supermarkets did not have. Golden Mall is not only a place whereby the Thai can get together in one place, but it is also a place where by my mother and I can go back to Thailand though we are still in SG. It is also where the Thais can have a taste of their hometown food when they are working in SG and a place where i know kept my most fond memories. I couldn't imagine if Golden Mall is going to En Bloc because there are just so many memories that i had created there with my mother. Please don't En Bloc....

when I first passed this building on the expressway, I was truly astonished by how unique it looked. It was really shocking. I didn't realise that there was such thing . I just loved the way the building looked, it really caught my eye and I really wanted to go there and check it out :) I now realise that there r shops there tooo. That's extremely convenient and the environment is really amazing . Wish I could go there soon :) this place should not be en bloc :(( it is just so wonderful .

True. It does not leave much of an impression from the front facade of the building. But the back, it is a whole different view and story... I had never seen a building quite like Golden Mile Complex here in Singapore and to have it en Bloc will be too painful as part of Singapore's history and unique architectural marvel are being stripped down.

This is one of those buildings in sg that really has its own character. It feels different from most buildings I've been to in Sg. Less "sanitized," so yes a bit more dirty and its obvious when you enter that it's old and not well maintained. But, it really feels different, like it's a living thing. Maybe it's the people, or the stalls, or the building itself, I dunno. I just know it felt different.

Wow i didn't know this place had such a unique history. As a Malaysian tourist on a recent trip to SG, this building was the first thing I stepped into. Though not the squeaky clean, modern Singapore i expected, it was the rustic charm and the Thai vibes that adds value to the melting pot of SG. Hope it is retained with much dignity.

It's a pity to pull it down. Incredible architecture. Singapore is slowly losing it's heritage.

Dont rob this place of its soul! Singapore needs heritage enclaves like this to prevent it from becoming a boring country. These are the last few pockets of charming old Singapore. Look at how capitol theatre lost its soul with the modern facelift. Yes it looks nice n modern now... but in fact it feels empty

Singapore should think outside the box for this one. You don't want to loose another part of the soul that makes up the city. We lost Bugis... we'll never get it back. We can do something different with this creature... Metamorphosize it to something great but keep it real. None of that fake Bugis stuff.

Singapore is too small so it is inevitable for old buildings to be replaced with new ones on a constant basis. Not saying for or against, its just the reality of it. A building like that, though charming, is inefficient in its use of space in a country that is overpopulated and only continues to increase its population.

‘If this building goes, it is a Big lost to the Nation’.
Just like the ‘Four Far House’ in Queenstown.
Local call it, 14 storey block in the 1960.
It a 14 storey building where the exterior faucet is cover mostly with unpainted bricks.
    It gone now.
Golden Mile will be next to go.
The word ‘preservation’ is just a joke.

What attracts tourists to our country? THINK for F... Sake. Is it the high rise building? Or orchard road? The same reason we go to France, Rome, Italy, for the old rustic beautiful charm. U mean the high rise building here like a few durian design can compare with other countries? Beijing is even more modern than us. Just like msia, we q so long for Wat? To see thier shopping centre? All paper degree but a 10 cent brain.
