As a former union organizer, I pretty much agree with everyone you said (which is also why I don't do it anymore). It's great when employees want to band together against the company's predatory bullshit, but the reality is that most people are more than happy to watch their coworkers get shafted, and it's only when it happens to them that they finally decide their interests align with others. Consequently, they just end up getting picked off one by one. I mean, you can literally show them the statutes in the legal code the company is breaking in terms of labor law and they still won't want to do shit about it, and in most cases will rat you out in an attempt to get on the company's good side for a pittance. It is really is pathetic to watch over and over again, just no backbone or principles whatsoever, total selfish opportunism like you were saying. At some point you gotta say "alright have it your way" and laugh at their stupidity. I used to have way more sympathy than I have now.
I was in college for game design for 8 semesters and every one of my professors was someone had worked in game design or was currently working in the industry and they all told me and warned me about the instability of jobs in game design as an industry. They still encouraged me to pursue my passion but they warned me of this. I wisely chose to quit and now I’ve been working as a truck driver for 3 years making great money and have a 401k and benefits with my company. Couldn’t be happier. These people KNOW what the industry is like when they join it, everyone knows game design has horrible job security.

Square Enix lost 180-200 million dollars on fucking the marvel game, and funnily enough layoffs came down the pipeline. In a company where we publish under them was in a team of 8 during the pandemic down to 3 now
I've worked as a web developer my entire life and every time these layoff events happen, it reinforces to me why I never take jobs with the big cheeses like google etc. They don't care about making people redunant, they hire you and hope you fuck off before the next lay off.
In what world would you think you're likely to keep your role after a monster merge? I swear people in the games industry are too busy being passionate to actually understand how common cuts are across most workforces, especially after a period of 'false growth' layoffs are so common in the tech industry after a merger and I know this from experience, just because you can draw and animate thralls bulging frostwolf member as a contractor doesnt make you indispensable when the cuts come. I (like everyone) hate to see anyone lose their jobs, but some of these people need a healthy dose of reality.
I would love to see sir RL to cover bungie and their lay offs It probably would be similar story with this video in terms of news But the people who covered it, aka Paul tassi, isn't reliable as RL ❤ Great video sir
Honestly as someone who did exactly what you described when talking about overwatch 2 (i didn't buy the PvE but i was very excited for the game before release) I have never felt so scammed in my entire life by a video game company apart from those times i've genuinely been scammed by someone.
I hope they can adjust to life on the outside, but it might be hard. Remember the scene from Shawshank when Brooks gets tilted and pushes over the chair 😢
35:00 Not only that, after people criticized the shit out of Microsoft for Redfall and how Arkane continued an ongoing project after the acquisition, I think they learned the lesson people wanted it to learn. lol
It's unfortunate that the pandemic elevated an industry such that it fooled people into thinking they were building lifelong careers. Now they're stuck with a skillset the market no longer demands.
Only problem with Johanna is that she stayed quiet and silenced The Flank when Huke came out admitting to abusing addy, also CDL is more successful just because CoD had a bigger fan base to begin with but its stunting the scene again and especially handicapping the amateur scene during its existence
if you work 7 hours 59 minutes in america you not garunteed a lunch break. if you work 8 hours you required to take a lunch break. some places give 15 min breaks but it's so far and few

Even a South African organisation Bravado Gaming has signed with the suidis. A South African team that has not done anything in the t2 or t2 scene in any game.
At this level i only foresee maybe anders, semmler and thorin reaching out if one of you guys are in need. But that's the mental level those guys are at. Most people aren't and that's how things sadly ought to be in this rat-race ecosystem that is esports.

Funny that you call out the normies in that article I recently got to learn a bunch of stuff about WW2 from Mark Solonin (a "gonzo" dope Russian historian) and by extension about what Soviet Union actually was People usually cry about how bad Hitler was, and if you're a "buff" by modern standards you're allowed to think (preferably without asking) about whether or not Stalin may've killed a few millions innocent people But my question is actually better - how many of those people were actually innocent It's cool I guess to point fingers at a dead despot but like is he the source of the problem or is he merely a symptom And lo and behold everyone who I knew has speedran turning into an NPC who prided themselves on "critical thinking" and drinking a bottle of wine compulsively every evening because they could afford it xDDDDs I'm a certified moron but everyone just tries to be stupider than me so I guess they're succeeding My "friend" (I don't have anyone whom I communicate with and can call friends unironically) who I talk with, for example, just doesn't accept that there even are some other ways of being than his bulletproof recipe of "taking it down the arse deeper every year" What I'm saying is that if people 100 years ago were anything like the way they are now, and I have some reasons to suspect it, it's not much of a wonder, for me at least, that someone had to start rounding them up for a creative expressionist art session in front of a brick wall xD
