    I saw Willie Watson not longer ago playing with Dave Rawlings and Jillian Welch... what a GREAT concert. I didn't know anything about Willie but walked away in awe of the mans voice... he doesn't need no stinkin' amplifier... love that he plays that old Larrivee jumbo.

    Attention Steve Regan!
    Willie is not ripping off Waylon Jennings here. The song is a cover originally performed by Charlie Jordon in 1930. If anyone was ripped off it would be Jordan on as he was called "Uncle Skipper"
    Mr. Watson should be applauded for making an old song new again and doing in his own remarkable way.

      Even in his paste sessions he says the songs off folk singer aren't his originally but besides that it's music? Propertarianism has no place in music. If you want to own the songs then just play them at home by yourself, music is to be shared and experienced no?

    Saw him live at Grassroots, Trumansburg NY in the summer of 2019. I’ll never forget it. What a performance. I was riveted to the seat. I heard a man in the crowd say, “ we are about to witness something special.” The act is funny and touching. It’s the kind of talent that tours. You can pay for a ticket but you know you got a gift either way.

    Just saw Willie last night (valentines day) in Denver and going up again to see him tonight! He killed it, I've never seen such an awesome performance by one talented and dedicated musician. Just the way he closes his eyes and gets into his guitar playing and singing. He has the voice of an angel ! Defiantly one of my favorite performances I've yet to see, Keep up the good work Willie! Can't wait for the show tonight!

    Joseph Finnegan I had the chance to see him perform solo around August and to this day I cant get his performance out of my head. He made enough records with Old Crow and now he is going to do his own thing for awhile and make more records on his own. Dont think we could ask for more.. he was the heart of Old Crow and its thier loss. His small solo gig was a hell of alot more memorable to me than the last time I saw Old Crow. He even came out side and smoked a ciggarette with my girlfriend and I and shat the shit with us for awhile. We have plenty of Old Crow records to look back on But lets just be happy we still have him doing what HE wants to do!

      I've seen OCMS twice since Willie left and both times there wasn't a single song on the set list that Willie sang lead on. They still do the songs off the new album that Willie sang lead on, but just like all their other songs, they have to play them in a different key. And they are definitely going away from the old time folk tunes that they did while Willie was there. OCMS is still a great band and i'll always support them. Mainly because of the amount of respect I have for Ketch as a musician. He and Willie together was something special. But if you had asked me a year ago if i'd rather have Willie still with OCMS, or doing his old solo tour, that's an easy choice. I said when he left they band that they only thing that will make me accept the fact that he is no longer part of OCMS is if he does his own solo tour. Wish granted!!

    • @taybrown00
      @taybrown00 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      jmiotke22 Exactly, and I went through a situation similar to this not long ago when John Frusciante left the Chili Peppers (not sure if your a JF or RHCP fan). John was recording some AMAZING solo records a few years ago and although I enjoy the Peppers Id much rather have the guy doing his beautiful solo work... although his last couple electrontic projects he has done have been completely horrible.... so..eh.. yeah.
      Back to Willie Watson though, it makes me sooooo fuckin happy to see him staying true to his music and doing his own thing and working with Rawlings, John Paul Jones (Led Zep) ,Paul Kowert (Punch Brothers), etc while Old Crow is opening for Avett Bro's (who are soso/KINDA decent.. but OCMS opening for them???) duets with pop country douches?? Willie made a bold step and I cant wait to grow older on his tunes and follow him throughout the years. Now if him and Justin Townes Earle started touring together Id drag my balls through broken glass for such an oppertunity.

      Dan Mcqueen Saw OCMS in July of 09 at the Egg in Albany, NY. Critter was obviously out of the band at that time, but Watson was there and he damn near made the show. Jumpin around, barrel rolling on the ground, givin' it 100%. The band was great, but Willie was epic! As for today's OCMS, they're definitely missing something that they had then...

They published the words and music and tablature in the December 2015 issue and I'm positive it would be in the online version too. this song was written in 1930 by Charley Jordan and covered by numerous people since then. Can someone please tell me what exactly this song is about. I have a pretty good idea but I could be wrong.

    • @laurelissen2887
      @laurelissen2887 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The time period this song was written, many blues and folk songs relied on euphemisms and imagery, especially references to animals, to talk about sex and "animal instincts." Food definitely featured strongly as well.
      They also didn't know as much about bacterial vs viral transmission of disease but the germ theory in general was very helpful in avoiding the spread of disease, so cleaning, washing, and good hygiene were thought to be the best ways to avoid disease transmission.
      So really I think it's about the natural, but responsible, enjoyment of sex! But wash it good to keep it clean and avoid the spread of STDs (now we know to use protection too, thank goodness).

    This boy Watson sings and plays very well. However, I must protest most strongly about his wearing braces. I do not permit it. He is far too young for that.

    Ok... I like everything about this except the lyrics, which are pretty awful. I am not saying that I dislike the vocals - just the lyrics.

      It's not deep poetry, I'll give you that, but that's the way Charley Jordan sang it and obviously Willie Watson didn't want to mess too much with it.

      The lyrics are crazy, but that’s the point. Charlie Jordan had a License to Ill 60 years before the Beastie Boys.

    I was liking this until I heard the rip off lyrics D-I-E and T-I-E that's from a Waylon Jennings song "waymore blues".

      This is a cover of a Charley Jordan song written before Waylon was born. No shame in Waylon borrowing it. Waylon's great too.

      There's no "ripping off" in folk music. Everything is a part of a long tradition that has come before it. As long as the performer brings something new to the song or performs it in their own style, you are free to "borrow" from others.

      Think about the time-period we are living in. Think about the sorry state of what is commercially (and 80% of the time socially) acceptable in today's "country" music. Once you're disgusted enough, watch this again, and just remember that giving half of a shit about music is what brought you to this video in the first place. Who cares what or whose song it is.
      At the least, it's gotta please you on some level that it doesn't suck every dick on the planet like almost all of the "country" you will hear these days.

      MrAndyd27 Check your facts of who ripped off what from who before commenting. The line was in this song when it was written in 1930.

    First off, he’s not even finger picking so I’m not impressed at all
    Secondly, Dave Van Ronk’s version of this song is waayyy better
