I have been in Cambodia for 17 years now. Have loved the country, didn't like the COVID period, but the rest has been fine. So many wonderful places to visit. I taught here for 17 years and have been Principal, Director, Education Director, and teacher from K through high school, as well as teaching at University as well. It's been a great 17 years!
Glad to hear from the native Khmer in Mekong Delta. I've been to Can Tho, My Tho, and Soc Trang as I have some friends who live there. Sending love as well from Khmer in Minnesota, US🎉
Wow, great video. Thank you Austin and Tom. I’m visiting there from the States in April and really looking forward to learning about the Cambodian culture. I subscribed and am going to check out Toms website.
We're glad you decided to stay in Cambodia and share your knowledge and life's experiences with Cambodians. We all are longing to learn and expand our mind.
Really enjoyed this interview. I will be returning next week can't wait to get back I have really missed it. I like the saying the Cambodia effect I definitely felt it.
Great insights. Tom brings the benefit of many years in country, much more valuable than the two-week vacation bloggers who are checking boxes. I'm a US expat living in Ecuador who is looking at Cambodia as my next stop. BTW, Ecuadorians know and respect Man United.
I’m sincerely thanks Austin for making videos about my country that can make more people know and understand more about Cambodia. I’m your new subscriber!
Yes, I watch it all excellent discussion - thanks. I have spent a lot of time in Cambodia it's a fun place to be. The Cambodias I knew had a wonderful dry sense of humour. Infact, it can be a real crazy, wild, hilarious, fun place to be.
glad you’re enjoying my country i think for me personally the bad thing about cambodia is the government the politicians corruption 70% of the police are very not good to depend on and the ambulance are very slow in case of emergency beside from all of this everything is great (honest opinion)
I could be wrong but I think Com Bo Luc Lac dish is originated from Vietnam. I know that neighboring countries influence each other so perhaps there is a Cambodian version of Luc Lac created from an inspiration from the Vietnamese Luc Lac. Again I could be wrong like how I was wrong about Pho being originated in Vietnam but surprisingly it was originated in Cambodia first as Hui Tieu. Anyhow, thank you for this interview content! ❤ it!
Cambodian culture has been influenced by India, which is reflected in their tradition of eating with their hands, unlike the Vietnamese or Chinese, who use chopsticks. Dishes like Phở and Hủ Tiếu are eaten with chopsticks, so claiming that these dishes originated in Cambodia is quite laughable. Hủ tiếu, first known as kuyteav, originated from the Cambodian Chinese cuisine of the Teochews who came to Cambodia from Guangdong province in China and then emigrated to Vietnam during the 1970s. Hủ tiếu Nam Vang (lit. 'Phnom Penh rice noodle soup') is the classic variation of the dish in which the rice noodles have a softer texture and flat appearance like phở. In Southern Vietnam, the noodles were recreated producing a chewy noodle texture commonly seen in hủ tiếu noodles nowadays. The word hủ tiếu came from the Teochew dialect 粿條 Phở originated in the early 20th century in Northern Vietnam, and after the Vietnam War, refugees popularized it throughout the world. Because phở's origins are poorly documented, there is disagreement over the cultural influences that led to its development in Vietnam, as well as the etymology of the name. The Hanoi (northern) and Saigon (southern) styles of pho differ by noodle width, sweetness of broth, and choice of herbs and sauce.
@@VuNguyen-xc7bhCambodian always use their hands to eat just like other people in this world while a small number, maybe, use their feet for eating 😂. Cambodian use their hands to eat , banana, durian and other fruits and food that they’re are not good enough to use chopsticks or spoons to eat them. However, Cambodian also use chopsticks and spoons to eat noodles and soup because they’re not good at using hands to eat on those types of dishes. All Asian people love soup and some soup are often vey similar to one another, especially when they’re neighbors. And yes we eat rice instead of bread as a staple food.
Now he speaking it and you don’t have to…. If you go ask someone that had an experience about living there and you will received the same answers just like Tom
I AM ELATED TO SEE A YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR LIKE TOM TAKES A CHANCE IN A COUNTRY LIKE CAMBODIA . THERE ARE SO MUCH IN WHAT THE COUNTRY AND PEOPLE HAVE TO OFFER. LIKE THE TITLE OF THIS VIDEO SAYS, "CAMBODIA IS NOT FOR EVERYONE." HOWEVER, IF YOU SKIP THE RUMORS, POSSESS AN OPEN MIND AND HAVE GOOD HEART, IT IS ONE OF THE GREATEST PLACES ON EARTH TO RESIDE! THE PEOPLE, THE CULTURE, THE FOOD, AND THE HISTORY ARE SO RICH AND UNDENIABLE ! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR LIFE JOURNEY, TOM!
I say this as many time as it’s takes for people to understand that Cambodia is one of the most misunderstood countries ever. People are saying all this bad stuff about the country because they only look at the bad parts of it they only think of the dark history when they heard about Cambodia
What you don't say is that people in Cambodia are not allowed to express their options freely. It is an authoritarian regime, if you say things that they don't like then they will find a way to lock you up. There is nothing like the UK, people here get the freedom that the Khmer people don't !

Cambodia is like the Gem inside the caves unless you go to explore yourself experience. Rumors just speak to scare most people.
It's a bad country with bad people like other Southeast Asian countries.
