That's a funny thing to remember about it. I've been actually researching on the old mill and haunted hideaway for a while and it seems like it felt something like the Idlewild train with the outdoor scenes based on a pov I saw of the hideaway. It definitely seemed interesting in a certain special way that other dark rides didn't have. I'm not sure exactly what though, and yes I know about kissing XD
Was there anything specific that stood out? Or was it the overall unique feel of it? And what part of the feel of it did people like? I've been trying to figure it out.
Coasterknight its been many years since i rode it but i always remembered it as the first ride you see when entering the park through the tunnel walkway. it was a first impression and really showed (to me at least) the old time feel the park has. like a preview of the oldness of the park in general. like going back in time. it was an old rickity looking building and had ancient anamatronics of skeletons peeking out of the shuttered windows if i remember correctly. (if you would even call them anamatronics) and the front of the building had a working old mill style waterwheel too that cascaded water down and spun the big wheel like a real mill.
+euroaaRON1 I see. That's what I seemed to notice from the haunted hideaway video. Technically though the animatronics aren't ancient since the hideaway which became the old mill opened in the 70s. It's still cool to hear what you thought from riding it when it was around.
Coasterknight have you ever been on le cachot when it was there? i went on it once my first visit to the park when i was really young. i remember it reminded me of the old horror movie called fun house. i couldnt have been any more than 8 yrs old.

@TomShutter4 It's about time! I always thought the Garfield crap was...crap. Never even rode the Old Mill when it was all Garfielded-out. The scary Old Mill is the best one that I remember. Glad to hear they're bringing it back.
what makes me sad the most is when this ride was operational I was about 4 and when I went on it I would close my eyes or scream bloody murder so I can't even remember what this ride was like so I genuinely thank you for uploading this so I can at least see what this used to be like before Garfield dragged himself to kennywood and ruined the ride
I miss this ride so much. Garfield's Nightmare is just awful compared to this, not to mention the fact that I don't know ANYONE who has a deep fondness for Garfield's Nightmare.
i rode it recently and its good but its pretty bizarre and knowing that the old mill was a historic landmark in terms of dark rides (it was built in 1901) so yeah if they burned Garfield to the ground and brought back the old mill i wouldn't mind that much in fact if i were place entertainment i would have built a building from scratch for a better ride for that orange tabby cat
Exactly. A retheme is one thing (the Haunted Hideaway was certainly not the first theme of the ride), but to pay licensing fees and bring in outside character properties seems odd to me. Maybe they were trying to compete with Cedar Fair's contract with Peanuts characters.
I agree with you. The ride was from about 1901. Of course it's outdated - that's why we loved it. Updating rides like these beyond just restoration makes me ill.
Kennywood is bringing back Old Mill in 2020. Will Kennywood bring back The Gold Rusher in 2021 I hope? I wish they bring back The Gold Rusher just like they did to Old Mill.
I really feel like this being replaced by something already outdated, not spooky and actually irritating is a travesty. The dark rides are a tradition that should be honored not torn down and replaced with crap like this. and WHO would get the imrpression they could steal a kiss during such a ridiculous experience. BOO KENNYWOOD for all the torn down classics.
Wasn't there a skeleton hanging out the top window? Last time I went in the 90s I remembered that. I couldn't handle the laughinthedark as a kid, I think the noise of the cars scared me. but old mill I could ride all day.
When they opened 'Lost Kennywood,' they should have moved all of the dark rides they closed down to this location. I live in Austin now, but if they bring back the Old Mill, or Hard Headed Harold's Horrendously Humorous Haunted Hideaway, I'll certainly be back. While they're at it, bring back 'Le Cachot, the Noah's Ark whale and the Gold Rusher.'

It's probably the other way around, actually - my guess is that Kennywood pays licensing rights to be able to use the Garfield name and characters.

It was torn down a year before I was born. My older nephew, Izaiah, was born the year it was torn down. I also do not like Garfield's Nightmare.
