Yes, he wrote/co-composed the song. The track is co-composed/produced by Hiss noise and ADORA (Big Hit music producers). The lyrical style is a little different than most of his other tracks, it's not a straightforward story but the description of a feeling, very nostalgic. This was originally the outro of his mixtape, it was very short. It was a fan favorite, so he made an extended version later on. It's nostalgic, but from what he has said, I don't think he relates the color blue to only sadness, I think it's more about calmness, peace, safety, a comfort zone. When he's feeling bad (stressed, anxious, afraid), he wishes to go back to that comfort zone that the blue represents... The blue is good. He said something else about it, but I don't remember in this moment. In any case, the song is still open to interpretation... My favorite interpretation is that the blue side is "a happy childhood", missing your lost innocence, being naive, not having any fears, believing all humans are good, missing when you were a child and your parents protected you from the world. Ignorance is bliss. Before you get hurt, having faith is easier. The blue side seems to be some type of memory (or state of mind or daydream) that works as a placebo or painkiller... You remember it and it's soothing, but you also feel melancholic because you are not there anymore, because you know you can't stay in that feeling forever.

This concept is so very Jhope. He's a wise guy and I believe he has a profound understanding of what it means to be human. Most of the time he is a happy pill, but there's also a different side that comes out many times. It's something that makes him even more attractive and interesting.

Fun fact this was the outro of hope world and was very short but recently he decided to finish the song💜 and ACTUALLY jhope can sing very well and yes he wrote it, the rapline always write their own rap

I love watching new reactors when they don't even realize that listening to BTS music changes you. It just goes to show that RM is right when he says YES the sound matters but the lyrics need to matter as well...which is what most artist forget. Listening to positive words and real feelings will eventually change you for the better ...not to mention and turn ya into ARMY before you know it.

I fell in love with BTS because of their lyrics first and foremost.
Their music, beats and arrangement are excellent, but BTS lyrics hit different - relatable, it resonates, it comforts, it heals and it changes people, extraordinary - truly a breath of fresh air.
I think that's the UNIQUE gift of BTS which makes them UNIQUE and INCOMPARABLE to other artists.
5 years with them and still counting.... I'm so thankful that I'm part of this fandom known as ARMY...I didn't regret anything, Everytime I heard their songs make me think that every problem has a solution, just don't give up and only believe yourself make your dreams came true...so I'm so thankful to them💜
Hoseok being a producer and a songwriter are just few of the reasons why I'm head over heels to this man! His musical print is so effective that even the elements that are most significant of his joyful side work well when used in “sadder” songs as well. Hobi also was able to build a unique brand for himself, that instead of taking away for the genuineness of BTS’s hip hop-print, blends with it perfectly! *He might not be perfect (no one is) but Hoseok is surely a limited edition angel this world had blessed us.*

J-hope is BTS’ rapper, dancer, dance leader and an official Sub-Vocalist. He is literally a vocalsit-vocalist. J-hope is the most all-rounded member of the group. His voice is super versatile too. His vocals are angelic. He does back-up sub-vocals in almost all of BTS’ songs. In rap background, vocal background.
Hobi is incredible beyond imagining. He really can do everything and he pours his all into it. I admire him so much.

The line, I want to burn myself in blue can be taken as a double too, for sadness and literal fire, because blue flames are one of the hottest kind of fires, which can be attributed to one's passion too. Hoseok is so great with the use of imagery in his songs.
J-hope is the most versatile artist I knew. I mean... how can someone sing, dance and rap passionately. He can even compose and produce very good music. The lyrics of his songs were well-thought and very logical in terms of connection and telling stories and relaying messages.
If there's a solo album I will surely buy will be JHope's. I'm a Suga stan but I love his Hope World ablum

I think you'd enjoy other RM songs too that have a similar vibe. Like Mono. How about Jin's Abyss? That song is also about Jin's bout of depression and loss of motivation... It's a heartbreaking song.

J hope was even talking about that he wasn’t so happy during this COVID and the members were getting a little worried for him and his parents were even realizing that he wasn’t himself but hopefully he is okay know.
Many people think Suga and JHope are total opposite in personalities but many times I see their similarities especially in their vocals and lyrics. Suga was my first Bias which I needed when I first heard BTS and was having an emotional break down, then JHope creeped up and cheered me up. Love everything about him. Ultimate Bias for life😂🥰

HOBI is the WHOLE package man. He is without a doubt a born performer. When he dropped this we all we in shock because on the album it wasn’t finished, but then out of now where he dropped it. I love how the members just gift us with their amazing vocals and rap. They are not about the money. Stan a group that loves you as much as you love them.

I love Hobi. I love all his stuff - all his dance, his songwriting, his rap, and his singing is beautiful. Usually we just hear slow rap (even this is slow rap rather than singing) but he does a LOT of harmonisation and ad libs through the Bts songs. We sometimes get little tastes of his singing voice like in spring day, Mama, Otsukare SOPE version, Let Go, Run (ballad). But weirdly the most we hear him actually sing is when he sings someone else's songs or is mucking around!

I got to gradually learn more about the boys and got to appreciate each of their individuality and unique creativity. I think that what I appreciate most about JHope is that even when a song seems a bit sad, there is still hope and optimism. I have no talent in terms of musicality, but I can feel a hint of warmth, joyfulness and optimism every time I listen to him. He is one limited edition artist and simply an amazing human being. Blue side, to J-hope was actually a safe, calm and innoccent place where he likes to go when he feels overwhelmed. I often came to this song this year, specially during my midterms and finals.
j-hope is an amazing versatile artist! he wrote this and it is so poetic when you understand korean. it doesn't do it justice in english. It always makes me emotional everytime i listen to it i have to stop whatever im doing.

From personal observation, the colour blue holds many meanings in this song. But I guess blue side is basically a time he wasn’t exposed to the kind of pressure and attention that he received once he was famous. The times where he didn’t know much. It’s like a nostalgic feeling

Blue Side narrates the longing to return to what J-Hope names the "blue side of his life", a time before BTS when his life was simpler.
Here is message he posted when he released the track:
"Today is March 2. It’s also three years since the day my mixtape Hope World came out.
Back then, I was fixed on sharing my music with you in a hurry, and I remember stubbornly writing down whatever my creativity drew me in to. Maybe that’s why I feel awkward and embarrassed when I listen to it again. (Laughs) At the same time, perhaps Hope World was created with the courage and mindset I had earlier on. But I sometimes miss these days. One innocent boy who like a child wrote down whatever came to his sight on his music journal. I think it was that emotion which caused me to want to finish “Blue Side.” They say all people have emotionally attached to old things and would suddenly feel homesick, and that’s exactly how I’m feeling these days. When I was young and working, I was a blank canvas, painting and filling myself with whatever drew my attention. I cannot go back time, but I needed a blue safe haven in multiple levels where I could hold onto and comfort myself, cool myself down from the heat. As time passed by, I was able to reorganize my answer to the question, ‘Why couldn’t I finish writing this song?’ The topic felt generous enough in that I could express it musically, but I had this fateful thought that ‘I will feel and understand this myself someday, won’t I?’ This is just my first song, but I wanted to share with you that I’ve grown musically even by a little, and I released it with the ambition to keep challenging myself and improve, and that I will come back after I’ve grown more. Listen with pleasure and enjoy comfortably."

It's been great to rediscover BTS discography with you. The first time I heard this song, I cried so hard and thought of all the hate J-Hope received and how he feels the need to put on the "smiley face" when he's J-Hope. And to think that he drains himself and, at home, just feels the need to be quiet and not so hyped up. So I have a deep appreciation for him and his work ethic. This song is absolutely perfect, indeed: from his voice, the synth and the chords, from the flow to the sadness, the interjections, it is the most perfect poetic construction of BTS. And to think all of it is J-Hope but also Hobi and Hoseok. True professional, true artist and such charisma! I agree with you: you could leave it on a loop and it feels so conforting...

Blue side was actually the outro of Hope World with 1min in length. He recently has released the full version after three years for Hope World's 3nd year anniversary. This song is basically psychologically healer istg on my relaxation playlist for sure.
Ps/ And yes all of his songs (also his verses in rapline song feat most of his BTS lyrics) are written by himself. Such a multi-talented King. and he is the flow and pop-melody God legit haha BTS' famous melodies like Micdrop and Dionysus are written by him as well.

Blue, deep blue, has double meaning of being pure/inexperience, passionate, sadness ... once long time ago.. blue was the most expensive colour as this is so hard to get .. only royal family can afford it
