They should have at least called him up to do the voice for Kratos' memory in Helheim when he killed Zeus. Not only would it have stayed congruent with the voice he had during that era, but it would have been a great callback to a great actor.

I heard the reason they did it in Kratos’s current voice is bc this memory is playing out as the current Kratos remembers it and so it is in his current voice. When you recall dialogue of you when you were 14 do you have a 14 year olds voice or your current voice.

@@billyblanco2540 while that does make some sense, I think they mostly did it to save money. Why bring in another voice actor and pay him a chunk of cash to say one or two sentences, when you can just keep the guy you already have and not change any pay?
The way i see it: TC Carson voiced a younger, wild, violent Kratos; Christopher Judge - older , wiser, more calm Kratos. Both versions are still scary though.
but in a flush back, they should use this guy, because it's fits him better.

the voice isn't the problem the movement while acting is the problem why they have to recast him Carson is a lot shorter than Kratos and during Ascension development the animator have to do a lot of animation around his movement and it's too much time consuming

The Blade of Olympus would alone have split Thor into little pieces. Not to mention Kratos was agile and strong. He wasn't hesitant nor held back. As Odin killed Thor, Kratos would have.

Judge and Carson both have deep voices, but they portray their characters differently.
Carson's Kratos was young, vigorous and full of rage. Carson displayed kratos's grief and desire for vengeance perfectly. He was the embodiment of wrath, a true personification of a God of War.
Judge was different, his kratos was more humble and wiser. Judge's voice brought out kratos's newfound wisdom in acceptance and his role as fatherhood in a new family.

I get where you’re coming from but think about if you were Vlad. Would you respond to everything? Just because vlad is interviewing them, that doesn’t mean he wants to put his words into their business. I don’t like Vlad, but he’s smart for not saying much. It keeps him out of trouble as well.

TC Carson is Kratos just as much as Christopher Judge, maybe more depending on your opinion. His voice perfectly fits the young, rage filled spartan that swore revenge on the gods themselves and Christopher Judge for the older, wiser but still haunted by his past.

Another criminal thing is that, I think to this day that TC Carson should have been the kratos voice actor from 2018, nothing wrong with Christopher judge but the excuse that TC carson got replaced because of mocap and he got replaced because he didn't had the muscular physique of kratos is bullshit. Is a terrible excuse because a lot of characters look nothing like the voice actors physique, brok and sindri and fat thor is proof of that.

Those were my thoughts exactly, and I agree entirely too, it makes sense. But as he said, that could've easily have been explained to him when they decided to go in that other direction. It's not just a lack of respect as he mentioned in the interview, bc he's totally right in that regard too, but also the strong lack of professionalism... But I think respect and professionalism both go hand in hand. Maybe that's just me, idk, what do y'all think???
It very well could have. Carson is an actor, a damn fine one at that, and Kratos in the old games wasn't *just* youth and rage. There was depth there, even subtlety, when the cutscene or line of dialogue would call for it.
They disrespected this man big time by simply swapping him out and not working with him to truly grow Kratos as a person. Mocap is no excuse, there are ways around that issue I'm sure.
I like the new guy. He's great. But I'm tired of seeing these takes of "Carson was only good as the young & angry Kratos". Because we've seen glimpses of him doing more subdued, emotional scenes, and I feel we've been robbed of a more layered performance from him. I hope they bring him back in some capacity in the future. Perhaps for some flashbacks or old lore segments depicting younger Kratos. It's the least they can do, IMO.
Hard disagree. He's an actor, he should have just been directed to play the character differently. People only have takes like this for voice acting. If Keanu Reeves had been recast for matrix four (irregardless of the quality of the movie) it would have been a bad choice. And we can see that with agent Smith being recast and the fan reaction behind that. Pick any movie franchise with a long gap between movies or with an updated characterization of the lead. Should they have recast a wiser sounding man for the later Rambo movies? Should they have recast Han Solo in the recent star wars? Christopher Judge gave a great performance don't get me wrong, but they could have worked with Carson on this one. The same as with the guy for metal gear solid.

Kinda sad they didn't even call him to tell him they were letting him go. His voice was and is still spectacular. I still like Judge's interpretation and I respect him as an actor, but Carson was just something else. Can't imagine anyone else who could have played young kratos as amazing as he portrayed him

Maaan is so sad for me to hear that my childhood was done dirty like this! Kratos and the God of War franchise is where it is thanks to this man. It really bums me out that the swap of voice actors wasn't handled respectfully. I think both are good for each respective saga, but it doesn't mean they get to just toss him away like that.
I think the reason entirely is BS. So much they could have done to keep him as the voice actor alone.

and it was clear they are trying something they never done before and besides kratos's voice they were looking for Christopher judges acting and his chemistry with Sunny Suljic
plus Rockstar pretty much mastered 3rd person open worlds and Dutch's actor has been in both red games so they proobably had his figure figured out still terrible though that there wasnt callbacks to tc carson it feels random to just straight up forget about him

That's not quite right; the combat animations and body scans were Shad Gaspard, but Judge absolutely did performance capture for the game's story sequences. Gaspard functioned a bit like a stunt double.

I think Christopher Judge has absolutely smashed the new Kratos and the devs made the right decision with the recasting, but this man was phenomenal in the originals and he deserved the call he wanted. Respect TC, I loved that original trilogy, great performance
definitely not the right decision just for the sake of recasting TC Carson but for budget and making development easier was maybe the right decision although Carson should've remained for the development of gow 4..... everything gow related before gow 2018, it was Caron that voiced kratos

Cory Barlog wanted to leave those games behind and go in a new direction combat wise and story wise. It’s a different interpretation of Kratos and because of that he needed a new voice.

I was shocked when I first found out he did Kratos. The voice is iconic...sucked he got replaced
Right like I didn't even know that was him that voiced kratos 😵
However I would say Christopher Judge is a better Kratos. I think TC did a great job, but Judges voice seems more aged and tired, but also more experienced, just as old man Kratos is meant to sound
And that's why TC was replaced. It was nothing personal or malicious about it. No hard feelings. It was for new story purposes.

For as wonderful as Christopher Judge is and he is TOP notch, Carson is irreplaceable as young, in his prime Kratos who is just boiling over with rage and sadistic god slaying vengeance. Chris does “Old Man Kratos”/Dad Kratos who’s mellowed out and gives off the “I’m too old for this s***” vibe perfectly while making it feel organic and a natural extension of Carson’s character. Hats off to both actors as they both represent two very different and distinct points in Kratos’ life and reflect that amazingly.
As a GOW fan from day one, I appreciate you Sir and thank you for your work. You're absolutely right that Santa Monica/ Sony really made a big mistake by not calling you about replacing you.
I can imagine Cory Barlog and this man working together behind the scenes, but I just can't imagine Cory, being the man he appears to be, just letting TC go without so much as a phone call, or Santa Monica for that matter. Just crazy. This man seems so chill and down to earth.
Voiced the best series in games. Like he’s said it’s a respect thing. They should have called him.

Awe, it's sad to hear they didn't actually tell him they were replacing him for GOW. Don't get me wrong, I love Judge in the role as well, but Carson is still Kratos in my mind.

It was unfortunate that he wasn't playing kratos anymore but the stargate guy did a great job as a older lesser angry kratos
Truth. Christopher handled it pretty well.
Christopher is better fit for the kratos 2018,TC fit more the previus one,the younger,the less muscular one...but the old kratos we saw in 2018 for me Chris was a better choice.

Damn right! Tc Carson is a legend and he will always be remembered for playing one of the best, meanest and most badass video game character to ever be created and he definitely deserves more credit. I hear way too many people talking about Steve Downes the voice of Master Chief and it's really annoying. I mean yes Master Chief is an awesome character in all but is also extremely overratted and is given more credit than what he deserves. Not to mention i'm not a Halo fan and never found any game (except Halo Reach and Halo CE) to be particularly interesting.

He wasn't motion captured he was just in a suit! Motion capture didn't even exist decades after a new hope was made.

They had an opportunity to mend bridges with the Valhalla DLC. I love Santa Monica for bringing us the game, but they lost a lot of my respect for how they treated Mr. Carson.
