    Really useful tips! Thanks for making the video. It has been about 15 years since we've done any fishing but we're heading to Norway this spring... and I think we need to get back to it! Your videos are a great little refresher for us!

      In my opinion theyre different yes, and agree that a good fish from the shore has that edge over a good fish on a boat👍 On holiday in Australia years ago, my brother and me went on a boat fishing trip and i caught a 70something lb stingray. Was amazing to see such a fish!
      But.
      One night 2 weeks ago after 2 years of no shows in the Thames (for me) I was fishing with 2 mates at one of my local haunts and caught a 3lb Codling and i was a guy in his 30s excited like a kid at xmas😂😂

      If the fish are close to shore I would much rather fish from shore! Especially if it's a quiet secluded spot. The only thing I hate about shore fishing is when it's an easy access popular spot and while you are enjoying the spot you hear that car slow down, then the doors closing then loud chatty people who come fish right beside you. Nice thing about a boat is when annoying people show up you can move further down the lake.

    Hi Billy glad to see that you are safe and well..
    You have asked the question about which is best catching fish from the shore or from a boat..
    Both have Thier benefits .??? Shore fishing has a advantage simply because if the weather changes it doesn't take long to pack up your gear and get back to the benefits of a nice warm
    Environment..
    As for boat fishing .it depends on weather conditions .. yes you have a chance of catching larger fish . but it still depends on the fish being there to start with..
    But again the extra cost of boat hire is one reason to opt for fishing from the shore.. the other is that you will be colder on the back of boats..as there is no cover from biting winds..
    Anyway keep safe and well.mate
    I'm looking forward to the next video of yours..

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Wayne. The question was, is shore fishing more fun! Both I and bill Hurley agree that it is. For me it is because there's no electronics, and it's just Man vs fish. Thanks Brother 😁👌

    Billy Fishing, what about ye big man, big Paul here from Belfast. Ref: the FG knot there is a real easy way to tie this knot even on the shore line, because the FG is the strongest knot as you know.
    A You tube channel called Salt strong does a very good example on how to tie an Fg, the easy way. It is the dogs, can tie in just one minute.
    Best of luck big man, keep her lit.

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Paul, as it goes, this knot is just as strong. You can test it yourself. And it's quicker and easier to tie. The FG not will take at least five minutes to tie, no matter who does it. I can tie this knot in under 30 seconds. Don't believe the hype. Thanks Brother 😁👌

    I 100% agree with the knot talk Billy. People are so preoccupied with which knot is the strongest but wont admit the classic simpler knots get the job done. Ive never had a uni knot fail... come to think of it ive been fishing over 30 years and never had a clinch knot fail. They are good enough!
    Another thing I do after I tie a knot with fluoro or mono/nylon is touch the tag end to a lighter. It melts just a little bit and it makes a ball on the end when it cools. In the unlikely event the knot slips it would stop at the ball on the end.

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Joe. I am sure there is a circumstance where stronger knots are required, but not cod fishing. Instead of melting the end of the line, I like to put super glue on it. Then it will never move again 🤣 Thanks Brother 👍😁

    • @differentfins
      @differentfins 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Billyfishing_watch that also works! Yeah knots like FG are essential if you are fishing for marlin, GT, wahoo or some other pelagic monster fish that can swim 80+ km/h but for most applications just not required.

      @Billyfishing_watch  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Thanks Billy for another great video! The one tip that I learned a few years ago, not quite in the same way you put it, but you are absolutely right! If you arent losing lures, you are fishing! You are just dragging a piece of metal/soft plastic through the water! Top Tip!

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's just a knot! Just like many others. My Is what they call a 100% knot. It breaks at the rated breaking strain of the line. The Palomar knot will break at half the rated breaking strain of the line, it is not a leader knot. Although people do use it as one 👍

  • @nigelmilne3503
    @nigelmilne3503 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    What do you use line wise bait fishing Billy? We go Cod hunting on the East Coast of Scotland and the ground we fish on is brutal. We are 90lb plus main line and a rubbing leader with a rotten bottom. And a sturdy hook length. Might lose the weight, but normally get the hooks back. What's the bottom like in Norway? I fished Boddin Point in Angus and came away 20 weights lighter lol.

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi bud. The roughest ground I know anywhere even worse than Scotland, is Donegal. I use 50 lb 4 strand braid, with 120 lb 4 strand leader. Also with a rotten bottom. I very rarely lose the leader. The rig usually breaks, and it's 80 lb. That's if I don't lose the lead weight. Norway is generally not very snaggy, but it has its moments. The South seems to be more snaggy. Thanks Brother 👍😁

    Thanks for sharing Billy! Would you try jigging from the UK shoreline? I’ve not heard of many people using artificials from shore for winter cod over here.
    I’m on the Scottish east coast so it’s not too deep but is rough. Would love to jig if I could. Have bought a big slow jig to try power cast out to waters deeper than a couple meters

    • @Billyfishing_watch
      @Billyfishing_watch  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Bud. I will Jig anywhere, just so long as the water is clear enough and there are actually fish! Try micro jigs, 20 the 30 g. They work really well. I love fishing in Scotland, one of my favourite places. Thanks brother, see you on the beach 👍😁👌
