I am going to visit tomorrow. About 20 minute away and when 4014 came through St. Louis this summer I got hooked. Great job. Love a narrative.

I grew up in Florissant and went to the Museum dozens of times in the 60s and 70s. So great to see some of the restorations occurring. Hope to get back someday. Thanks for sharing this

30 years ago I used to do volunteer work here some of those trolleys that you see I helped move around the yard and getting them ready for restoration

I surely miss that Frisco Philly out on the main line it's a shame that they couldn't afford to keep Frisco 1522 in operation due to the rising cost of insurance caused by the tragedy of 9/11

The Burlington Route #9908 is known as the General Pershing. It was the Zephyr streamliner that serviced the line between Kansas City and St Louis in the late 1930s. It was the last Zephyr streamliner that was built as an integrated streamliner, as opposed to being pulled by an EMD E-unit. The General Pershing Zephyr was also a completely non-articulated layout.

Ahhhhh! Yes! Fond memories of this museum (just over 20 yrs. ago for me) July 2001 (pre 911) There was a working trolley you could ride point to point.

There still is a working trolley. I got to write on that too. Very cool

    • @jeanlaws8210

They're going to hopefully expand the trolley route so that you can be picked up/dropped off at a station to be placed near the Auto Building.

The UP had 4-12-2 "9000" series locomotives. They had 6 pairs of drive wheels, one more pair than the 2-10-4 you saw there. There is one survivor, #9000, which is one display in Pomona, CA.

The Soviet Union built an experimental prototype 4-14-4 steam locomotive back in the 1930’s classified as the AA20. The design was based off of the UP 4-12-2 9000 class. However, it was a complete failure as it was too long to negotiate curves, it derailed easily, and the boiler couldn’t produce enough steam to keep the locomotive running. It was scraped.

I think they had early plans of bringing 4014 into the museum, which would've been a hell of a sight, the two big boys next to each other.
