The 'stiff'/non-chain necklaces (3:00) are called torques. They are classic in Celtic historical jewelry but many other cultures also. I love that artist's take on torques though!
Nice video. Thanks for recording at the shows. It's a great way to share your love of the art and inspire others who might not have had the chance to see a show otherwise. BTW, that rhodochrosite from Mexico with the black on it isn't a matrix, it is manganese produced as a oxidation byproduct. At one point that black portion was bright pink like the rest of it.
oh man I went to the big sur jade fest. it was not cancelled. It tumbles well with some hit or misses, it can flake apart. The quality of jade there varies. I got a mountain of serp and soapstone, but both are beautiful carved and cut too. The divers and carvers are no joke, and that coastline can be vary dangerous. I have met a few of them and the work they do is insane. I suggest hitting both the Monterey jade festival and the big sur jade festival. I got some great deals from the big sur jade fest hands down super happy with my purchases from there. Matt Glasby, Jason Salter, moonstone matt, along with another handful of folks really make some great stuff.
