Okay, I guess you do know they are just there, not to command, it was 20 century already. When his father denied saving his family from Russia, and all of them were killed, guess who gave the advice? The prime minister, do not get involved, he is your cousin, but we are in a very bad situation, well, his entire cousins family were murdered.

But she hated every moment of her decision to marry him, she felt like a bird locked in a gilded cage.
@@anthonywilliams9852 she backed out because she found out that he doesn’t want to be king, that makes her can’t be the queen. That’s where she started telling him that she wants out.
The major difference between The Windsors and The Sussex's is that Edward essentially trapped Wallis into marrying him. She begged him not to abdicate, and when he did she only married him out of guilt.
@Oh Well I used to read these theories and think what nonsensical rubbish .but not any more!..I'd literally just about believe ANYTHING is a possibility with Megs Mandela
You are spot on Dr. Grande. There is no better way to compare MM but to no other than Wallis. Thank you for digging farther into historical archives and shedding light on the infamous lives of Wallis and Edward. You made such an intelligible comparison on Wallis and MM as opposed to the mainstream media comparing a striking parallel between MM and Princess Diana which is utterly appalling.
@Dej Hary I don’t blame she and Harry wanting to get out, but their ‘poor us’ act is a drag. As for MM comparing herself to Diana, that is weird. The British Royal family will go on being loved in the UK and admired elsewhere, long after people get tired of the Sussex drama
Why would Harry think that reminds him of his mother and for her to think so as well and start dressing like her it's disgusting to take on the persona of a much loved Princess of Wales
@@sunnyday7843 I saw something about her wanting to have a baby by her ex maybe and that she wanted to be with this guy but he turned her down so she went with the King. Is that the one?
"A briefcase-holding queen of the world" is such eloquent snark! Thank you, Dr. Grande -- & kudos for noticing the way Meghan copies Wallis's hair & dress styles.
There’s a rumour Wallis was always in love with her ex husband too. She never really loved Edward but felt obliged to stay with him because of the gravity of the situation.
Wallis was far more charismatic and intelligent than Edward. Her and her former husband were intellectually compatible. She would often write to him explaining about the huge mistake she made.
She stayed with him for free money, life of luxury and no need to work - not because of an obligation. She's easily divorced two other men, she could have done the same with a third one. Spare the bs, she was as calculating as today's footballer's wives.
@@cheshirecat2641 according to the letters, her second husband was very complicit about her relationship with Edward (in the beginning at least). They both wanted to raise their own profiles by having high connections, but things got out of hand. Im not excusing her behaviour by any means.
I read that Markle did not want her children attending British schools because they were "pale, stale, and male". That's exactly what Harry is, and yet, she married him. If you don't like British culture, then don't marry a Prince of England.
This was both so fascinating, and so well put together!! Had to laugh at "Meghan Markle assumes that she is witty, and good at conversation." "They are going to construct their own reputaion, which will amaze people." 😅😂
Megan is excellent at whining and at being a professional victim, but that's about it. The only things she ever talks about is the Royal family and their supposed mistreatment of her because of her skin color, and anything related to herself, except of course her bullying and narcissism. @@MedusasFeelinSalty she sure knows how to deflect attention away from her lies and hypocrisy by claiming “racism!!” or people attacking her for being an “amazing ambitious woman” 😂🤣
This was really interesting. I agree he never wanted the responsibility/role as King. Edward would reveal himself to be a awful person with abhorrent views. I can’t imagine how having him as The King would have been a benefit to the UK.
wife sharing and mistresses was so the norm in "higher" society. Having watched and read about her life I feel that as soon as she realised what Edward was prepared to do she wanted out. There was no escape so I think she accepted her fate and went with the flow. I dont feel it was her choice though. Maybe that explains their volatile often cruel relationship. Edward seemed content in her though. Rachel seems to be jumping on the bandwagon now.. Rachel lives in a world where she chose and knew what she accepted.. and yes your thinking is spot on..
Markle said she wanted to be the next Princess Diana, but instead she became the next Wallis Simpson. Markle will never be like Princess Diana. With all her faults, Diana cared about other people. Markle only cares about herself.
OMG Dr. Grande! While I was staying up late into the morning again last night, I decided to read about the Duke and a Duchess of Windsor again, thinking of how Meghan and Prince Harry reminded me of them. The choices both men made are so tragic - they seem(ed) extremely unhappy and sad. History repeats itself. Thanks for the video, Dr. Grande.
Yeah, I'm sure living the high life in Hollywood is miserable. He looks like someone who realized he made a terrible decision and wish his life was like William who is the picture of happiness. We should all be so lucky to live a horrible life like Harry.
According to my mum - who was a child when it happened and who probably got her views/opinions from her parents - it wasn't a tragic marriage but a blessing. A blessing for the citizens of Great Britain and the empire that was.
Interesting little known fact about her that I learned from Lady C. Wallis’ first husband was abusive. When she informed her rich uncle that she wanted to divorce him, he told her that if she divorced him, he would disinherit her. She divorced her husband and 6 months later, her uncle died leaving her nothing.
Edward was an awful person, so also was Wallis. Wallis, though, for all her faults, never behaved as badly and disrespectfully, as that dreadful Duchess of Sussex woman is behaving now.
I beg to differ. Have you not seen the picture of Wallis posing with Adolf Hitler? They traveled to Germany against the objections of British officials shortly after their marriage. There are allegations that Wallis also had an affair with Nazi Joseph von Ribbentrop and there are even accusations that she passed along secrets to the Nazis.
Wallis Simpson tried to get out of marrying Edward but things had gone too far and she felt she had no choice. MM enticed Harry by invoking similarities with his mother and acting like she was keen to be part of the RF.both married weaker men.
@@anipopescu Before H and M married, M wore similar outfits and posed similar to Diana, even going so far as to wear Diana's perfume! Wallace's uncle was the President of the Seaboard Airline railroad company and made his winter home in Palm Beach available to Wallace and her husband. The railroad planned to build a number of swank hotels along its route to attract day travelers (much like the Harvey Houses along the old Santa Fe railroad) who could deboard the train in the evening and resume their travels the next day. One of these still exists in Indiantown, Florida and is operated as the Seminole Inn. The ex-King and Wallace, accompanied by Wallace's uncle, frequently visited at that hotel when in Florida, and went on hunting trips in the rural area. It's alleged that they were always tailed by the FBI as Hoover was of the belief that the ex-King was a German spy.
Interesting thoughts. One of the main stumbling blocks to her marriage to Edward VIII and becoming Queen for Wallis was the fact that she was divorced. The King was Head of the Church of England and at the time it was unthinkable that the Queen would be a divorcee. Meghan was very fortunate to be married at Windsor. Princess Anne (as a divorcee) was married in Scotland where the rules were different. I think you are right…Meghan has no idea how privileged she was and how rules were relaxed for them

Oooo this was a good video (as always). Meghan isn’t even up to par with Wallis…Meghan is so out of touch with modern womanhood. I am a wife, I work full time, have 2 kids and take college courses, so to hear her making so much money off of the drivel she calls a podcast is off putting. She’s not ambitious, she’s just a fairly attractive woman who social climbed with much success.
"fairly attractive" you must be joking She's ugly as hell if not for the expensive make over. In her younger days photos she was such a plain jane no one will notice, until she became actress and had a major make over. Now she has more money and more reason to fix her looks. Comparing her to Wallis Simpson is an insult to Wallis. Wallis wasnt't good looking but she had unique look and style. Wallis never criticized the RF, she had grace. Meghan married a spare believing she should inherit the royal kingdom wholesale.
Just one point. The royal family didn,t force out Edward and Wallis, the church and government did. Being king was the last thing the queens` dad wanted. The royal family didn,t force out Harry and Meghan, they did it themselves.
I'd be interested in you analysing the men - Edward and Harry. I believe they both wanted to be free of the Royal Family's constraints, whilst not being completely able to give up its privileges - and, frankly, being weak, institutionalised individuals, lacking in the intelligence or fortitude to go their own way. I think they have both consciencly or sub-consciencly chosen partners who would dominate them and do the break away job for them. However, marrying someone for the spurious reasons does not a happy life make - as is being played out now with the Sussexes, and was played out in the past with the Windsors. I think the main characteristic of them both is lack of intelligence, personal weakness and lack of control over their destinies, leading them to go down the metaphorical Molotov cocktail route in their marriages rather than work things out from within. Harry knows what the British press is like, he would have known they would be on the look out for any reason to splash him and his bride all over the front pages for negative reasons. I'm not surprised the Windsors courted Hitler. He would have dismantled the Royal Family and all its courtiers (much like the civil service in Parliament, these anonymous, grey men are probably the real power in the monarchy) installed the Windsors as monarchs, and the latter would have believed they could then have complete control over a re-vamped institution. They'd have been wrong of course, they would just have been pawns in the games of a different set of grey men.
Well said, Antoinetta Mason. Both men, having been "institutionalized" from childhood by the unusual strictures and protocols of the British Monarchy, also found it comforting that they found women who would direct and instruct them. This was a comfort to them which they viewed as an "independent, American spirit" in the women they loved. In reality, sometimes people who have that same "independent, American spirit" are really controlling or manipulative as well, with a sense of entitlement. I believe those types of qualities are shared by Wallis and Meghan, as well as being well known now just by their first names and because of the men they were able to control and ultimately destroy.

The Windsors were not quiet at all. There is so much literature on them, for reference, and the things they did/said was enough to make your hair gray.
Wow. I learn so much about human nature, history, and indescribable levels of awareness from your presentations. You have to be empowered somehow. Your graphics are awesome.
They were all four of them dreadful people. I give credit to Mrs Simpson for sparing us what would have been the debacle of King Edward VIII. In contrast, Harry functioned well as a second son. I can forgive them anything except slandering Prince Charles while simultaeously complaining that he was not throwing money at them. And when he has a $40m inheritance. And when they live in a palace in California. Complaining that they do not want to be royal anymore is all very well but you have to stop living like a royal if it is not in your price range!
That people probably didn't talk it about the royals not even alone at their home. At some point he accepted he wasn't going to go back to England. And I believe he thought he could shares his popularity with his brother, he was likeable, his brother not much. At that point Churchill was not having his craziness.
Several things you left out, probably because constraints of time. Edward gave Wallis jewelry which the Royal family considered to be owned by the Crown. On a visit to as country house in England, Wallis ' jewelry was stolen. Many thought the royals were getting their property back. Ernest Simpson was married at the time he took up with Wallis. He was complicit in the divorce from Wallis. He stayed in a seaside hotel with a woman who called herself "Buttercup Kennedy.". The staff of the hotel testified on Wallis' behalf that they were seen in bed together. "Buttercup," is thought to be Mary Kirk Raffray ( Of the Kirk silver company) who was a classmate of Wallis' at Oldfield school. She became Ernest's third wife. There is actually much, much more of interest.
More on the jewellery, Wallis still had a king’s ransom of jewels and in her will they were to be auctioned off and proceeds to go to various charities. Among those that were sold were property of the Crown and were meant to be handed back. There was a scandal about the proceeds as great portions disappeared. I saw the catalog and there were stunning pieces.

Please identify just one jewel owned by the British royal family that Edward allegedly gave to Wallis. Those possessing significant knowledge concerning royal jewels understand that Edward gave Wallis new and bespoke jewels made by important haute joaillerie houses of the time such as Cartier. Perhaps you confuse Edward's jewels with the famous Cambridge emeralds that for a brief period did end up in the hands of Nellie Kilmorey, the nonroyal mistress of Francis of Teck. But Edward's mum - Queen Mary - got her emeralds back rather quickly.
@@dukeofhaas in 2019, Lady Pamela Hicks along with her daughter, India had made a podcast and one of the subjects was the feud between Lord Mountbatten and The Duchess of Windsor regarding some pieces that he said should have been returned. His battle took up with Suzanne Blum, Wallis lawyer who had power of attorney, as Wallis was declining in mental health. Blum was the one, on instructions, to auction off all the jewels and unfortunately, Lord Louis was killed in the IRA attack on his boat before anything could be resolved. I agree that Wallis’ persons jewellery, fashioned by Appel’s and Van Clef and Cartier were commissioned by the Duke. There’s still the mystery surrounding the “ missing” jewels and I guess we’ll never know as the people involved are all deceased.
@@sarahhayse-gregson689 Thank you for your kind reply. However, we're still awaiting the identification of even one jewel in Wallis's possession that once belonged to the British royal family. It is my contention that no such jewel - or jewels - can be found because they do not exist. As with most European royal houses, the House of Windsor takes their personal possessions quite seriously, and at the top of that pile are their personal jewels (as opposed to those jewels considered Crown property). Finally, in the podcast you mentioned, Lady Hicks discussed how her father believed that following his abdication Edward took with him to France several elaborate presentation boxes. You - and others - have no doubt mistakenly conflated these "jeweled boxes" with actual pieces of wearable jewelry, the latter being the objects most associated with the style and memory of the late Duchess of Windsor. Over the decades Wallis' reputation has been tarnished in so many ways, so please, let's not add possession of stolen goods to this list.

Must have shaken him when he discovered that him mum was wrong and it wasn't going a be a sort of unofficial dual kingship, possibly where the problems first began.

The major difference between The Windsors and The Sussex's is that Edward essentially trapped Wallis into marrying him. She begged him not to abdicate, and when he did she only married him out of guilt.

Hear hear! Now that you've mentioned it, I realize I have never held a comparison of MM to Princess Di. Appalling indeed.

This was really interesting. I agree he never wanted the responsibility/role as King. Edward would reveal himself to be a awful person with abhorrent views. I can’t imagine how having him as The King would have been a benefit to the UK.
Both of them were nasty racists who admired Hitler but let's not talk about that.
wife sharing and mistresses was so the norm in "higher" society.

Interesting story, thanks for posting. :-)
Well, he may have been right about that.
Well- Edward was certainly a Nazi SYMPATHIZER ...Wallis too .

I thought the uncle died 6months later after Wallace divorced her first husband 🤔🤔🤔

Perfectly stated and oh so true!
Very astute. Also, shows we never learn a thing from history.
Great idea!
@@lindaolsen7089 It would be interesting to hear about “the other side” of these fascinating personages! Fascinating Dr Grande. Thank you for all the time you have clearly taken to research this interesting case of compare and contrast.
This ☝🏼☝🏼☝🏼
You matched up their dresses! Wow! I loved this. Deliciously dry & a little snarky! Perfect (as always)! 🤣🥰
@@sarahhayse-gregson689 We're eager for you to identify just one piece of jewelry belonging to the British royal family that Edward allegedly gave to his wife.

It’s always amazed me that Harry never seems to have learned anything from his own family history, and I don’t mean Diana. No, his great grand uncle (I think I got that right) David, the former Edward VIII. David was exiled from Great Britain once he abdicated, which he was quite surprised about as he thought he would be welcomed as a senior advisor to his brother the King. Now Harry has effectively exiled himself with his criticism of his family. I wonder how Harry will view his life 10-20 years from now when he is as isolated and rootless as his great uncle. Another sad footnote to history.
Omg, in 10 years they will be doing exactly what Simpson and David did, going to parties and vacations invited by people whom just wanted fo be associated with them because of their titles. They deserve it, I do not pity them.
@@laurenmay2098 The problem was ALL who supported them were paid to support them and also High society in America probably also blocked them from their invitation list because they know that Meg might use it in headlines when they only want was to party
In Harry's case I think he honestly believed his mum when she told him that he would be a sort of co-regent to William, a close advisor and trusted confidente. Must have shaken him when he discovered that him mum was wrong and it wasn't going a be a sort of unofficial dual kingship, possibly where the problems first began.
The stakes were different. Edward was literally the King of England and at that time the British Empire was much bigger and more powerful. Whether Harry stayed or left England, all he would have done was turn up at different events and shine a spotlight on things via official engagements.

EXCELLENT analysis!!! Your subtle nuances about Megain are quite astute!
Turning in to sleep and finding a Dr. G video is such a treat! The parallels between these two couples is quite fascinating. I wonder if you could also do an analysis of Camilla Parker Bowles. I’m curious about her personality, which has consumed so much of Prince Charles’s attention for so long, to the detriment of his own children via their mother.
Waking up and finding a new Dr. G video is, too! 🤩
I was going to ask the same
Would love to see your opinion on her also!
People who meet/ know Camilla say she's lovely and that she and Charles are happy and well suited. Charles' first marriage was not a success. He is hardly the first person to get a divorce. Move on!
@kat hi kat, based on your statement, what charles did, ie depending on C for emotional support was unwisely. His actions have had a devastating affect on everyone . A bit selfish 😕. The butterfly effect
Rumor has it is was actually his close personal ties to the Nazi's that was more problematic.
She slept with all the top Nazis. She was known as the " Nazi bike ".
I thought it was the Prime Minister at that time ?Chamberlain.
It isn't rumor, but an actual fact. Many documents were found decades ago, stating his plans and coercion with Hitler and his party. Quite shocking really. It always seemed unbelievable that he left for 'love.' Turns out to be true, he was a traitor and Wallis was a convenient ruse to use for his de-throning. Feel that there were similar things going on with Harry. His behavior has not changed; petulance, jealousy, personality disorders, etc, the RF just did a magnificent job of covering them up.
Yep. My British history prof told us that Churchill had so much concern that they would undermine the cause against Hitler that he immediately got Edward a governorship in the Bahamas to get him out of the way. Churchill became PM in 1940; Edward became governor of the Bahamas in 1940. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
@@cottontails9003 chamberlain was a problem but not because he liked Hitler. He seriously misjudged Hitler and adopted appeasement to try to keep peace in Europe (no one wanted WWII after the destruction of WWI) so he bent over backwards to try to keep that from happening. Chamberlain was almost always flying to the continent to talk to Hitler and he always thought Hitler was telling him the truth when he said that all he wanted was to reunite the ethnic Germans. But alas, he was swindled big time. But he was not a Nazi sympathizer as Edward was. He was simply too gullible to serve as an effective war-time PM.
Really good. Like Harry the Duke wanted to basically party and not work while retaining the title and trappings of Royalty. He also shilled a few products. Pride is the "love" that kept Wallis and Edward together. Divorcing would have proved their detractors right neither wanted that and that kept them together.
Thanks Dr. Todd. You are a pleasure to listen to on my commute back and forth from work. First time commenter. I would like to request you do a video on kaspar hauser. I would very much like to know your take on his life. Thanks.
Very interesting. I love your dry humour!
Very interesting & love your witty analysis! 👏👏
Thank you very much for another well-informed and reflected video. Your lucid mind and witty humour restore faith in humanity and make human folly so much more bearable. Keep on being a beacon of common sense and intelligence ❤
Excellent analysis as per usual Dr. Grande. Thank you!
My fav video of yours. The pics are great! Thank you.
Brilliant video! Your speculations are spot on. Everything you said is right on point. Thank you.
Interesting analysis. Hilarious quip about Meghan thinking she's queen of the world 🌎🤣👑 Thanks Dr G💛💛

She really thinks she's Queen...and remember just a plane crash away 🙄 😑
My mother was of that generation of English school girls who had a crush on the Prince of Wales. When the Wallis Simpson scandal broke in the UK, King Edward VIII was dubbed "the second mate to an American destroyer."
Well put..
Actually, the phrase was "third mate on an American tramp,"
@@ladydamiana6841 Interesting. My version is what my Poor Dear Sainted Mother told me, but I'm sure there were variations on the theme. I suppose that explaining what a "tramp" was to a sheltered English school girl was a little awkward in 1936.
@@Sergeant_Fury I imagine ALL of it was difficult to explain to young ladies of that era who were brought up to be less, er, notorious. I could see "third mate on an American destroyer" (since Edward was her third husband); I don't know how "second mate" could work unless maybe it was a reference to Edward being the second man in Wallis and Ernest's marriage.
I know this will be good! Thanks Dr. Grande. I could not agree with you more about the Sussex’s being a noisier version of the Windsor’s.
With a whole lot less charm too.
I love your MM videos, Dr. Grande!!
Bravo for your researchers putting together the pictures of Wallis and Meghan - so similar!
You forgot the bit where she was wooed by von ribbentrop, and there 'royal' tour of Germany in 1938
My understanding from what I have read or watched documentary of Wallis was, she was willing to be the mistress, with all the privileges and trimmings for being a royal mistress. It was Edward that couldn't bear the thought of not making her his Queen.
Spot on
Determined to make an honest woman out of her...
When Edward abdicated, England dodged a bullet. When Megxit occurred, England dodged another one. In both cases the trash took itself out.
Dr. Grande, I think you're genius in your analysis! You are equally very intelligent and very entertaining. I thoroughly enjoy listening to you. You have a new subscriber.
Excellent review doc!!?!
Dr. Grande, this was such a nice compare and contrast between the two Duchesses. Also, what a great job with the pictures! This video was interesting and highly entertaining.
Keep up the great work. Thank you, Dr. Grande.❤️
Meghan Markle should be paying you for advertising. I forget she exists every time until you bring her back up.
I feel sorry 😞 for Wallus. Imagine living the last six years of your life without a single visitor. So sad.
Harry and Edward both seem extremely immature.
If I were an obnoxious freak of relative renown, I would be really worried to have Dr Grande tell me his ideas about me.
He is so good at what he does! 👀😳
You are spot on, good analysis, thank you.
Dr. Grande, thanks for this. Loved the factual account and as always your impeccable delivery. OMG, taking a intellectual test to hold a brief case!
