- S.H.MonsterArts Shin Godzilla
Shin Godzilla has a fantastic sculpt, “nice” paint apps, and a good range of articulation. For the first-time guys, I can’t say this figure is very nice, very neat, and very cool.
As far as a recommendation goes, I will leave that up to you to decide if you should pick this figure up. There are a lot of things to beware of if you are going to peruse this figure. As of right now this figure is going for $180 to $220 which is absolutely too much for this figure. I only paid $86 for my figure.
There are reports of several paint issues with this figure as well. You have a chance of ending up with a Shin Gumzilla, like I did.

Your Shin Gumzilla is the really the biggest issue I have seen thus far. Great review. Covered everything. I love mine. Glad I didn't really pay much attention to what others were saying before I did my review because I kinda wanna go back and do a second look at this release, not so much at mine but the release in general. But I'm glad I did my review before hearing the criticism because I gave mine a fair assessment based on my own opinion. Apparently an opinion don't count for anything because some people like to shit on others for liking this. The only thing I could critique about mine is the paint is glossy. I didn't even think about it until one of my buddies saw mine in person and then I was like "oh yea, it IS really glossy". Other than that, I love mine. But, you make a lot of great points so it's give me another side of the spectrum to think about. Bam!

At first I was too easy and then I felt like I was too harsh. I stepped away from the figure for a day or two and came back with a fair mind. I like the figure, but I don't love it because of the paint apps. I'm sure they will fix it with a repaint.

I so glad my figure looks nice. All of the teeth are painted good, and there’s a perfect amount of red in all of the scars of shins skin. I was so surprised on how big this figure was! Awesome review!
It's funny how "Shin Gumzilla" has the teeth perfectly sculpted and on the other Shin Godzilla isn't

One thing to note: I thought Bandai made this figure with a reddish plastic and did a *blackwash* to him; a huge inaccuracy on Bandai's part.
P.S. Good thing you bought two--you could've ended up with only a Shin Gumzilla!

Only reason I'd want to get this is if I could actually paint over it myself, or if I knew anyone who could. There've been some glorious repaints of this figure that truly bring out its high level of detail with a balance of blackened skin and actually red muscle fibers. But as is, it's an easy pass.

I've heard alot of ppl complain about this figure mostly because it looks nothing like the prototype, the thing is no figure will ever look as good as their prototypes because toy companies take more time on the prototypes and they actually hand paint them. I was lucky to get one that doesn't fall apart and has a very good paint application. I give this figure a 10/10.

Its unacceptable from them to sell such a bad quality figures though, i wish everyone had a perfect figure like mine, because im telling you, this figure is seriously amazing when you dont have those QC problems

Great review brother!!! I just bought the movie on Blue Ray and it has really reignited my passion for Godzilla and Kaiju movies in general. I absolutely love the look of Shin Godzilla and have to,get this figure. I currently have the Neca version but I really want the Monster Arts offering. I just currently can't afford the damn scalper prices he's going for. BTW if you ever want to sell your crappy version for a fair price let me know. I don't care that it isn't perfect and it would give me a representation of a figure I love and I know the money would be going back into the hobby I love and respect. Not to mention generating more videos I love to watch. Thanks for the review and keep up the great work brother...

Great feedback, man. I preordered the new re-release, so hopefully that comes with fewer flaws.
they will probably do a "spitfire" version so that they can fix the paint, sculpt and articulation issues and give us several effects such as the atomic laser beam so that they can make even more money
Nice and thorough review, man! I personally think it's perfectly fine to have such bizarre different looking eyes, cos its like that in the movie and its so Anno-sensei's style to play with weird eyeballs in his creatures. I mean compared to the previous godzillas where it has a certain anger on his face, shin godzilla has no emotion, just a mindless horrific looking giant destroying tokyo with his spine chiller smile. Truly the best godzilla imho. Cheers!

Hey Diego, I want to start a S.H Monsterarts collection but I need some help! I need a monster that will be the first figure in my collection, do you think is should just get whatever figure I like and I'm able to get or is there a certain figure that is good for beginners in the series!
Also I loved this video, definitely convinced me to not get Shin Godzilla, it's to much for the risks of mistakes that the figure could have, I don't want a Shin Gumzilla!

The only thing I'm not happy with is the glossyness for the paint everything else is fantastic!

Heh, not even the ever-enthousiastic DiegoDoom can excuse the shoddy paint apps on this figure. This is sculpt-wise one of the best SH Monsterarts, but quality and paint-wise, this guy is easily one of the worst.

It’s actually really good that the pupils are a bit goofy because he has not eye lids and he can move his eyes and the eyes had one looking somewhere and the other looking somewhere else
Paint job on this figure the literal interpretation of "shit his the fan". Had I chose to buy this figure, I would need to repaint it myself. I like this figure otherwise, but there are still a number of problems with accurate anatomy.
However, Shin Godzilla must have the most complicated anatomy of any kaiju, so I would imagine it would take the master of master sculptors to deliver us a faithful representation.

I think I would say at the absolute most $120. I know that’s high, but I’m considering how popular the figure is and if I will have to chance to get a new one again.

I'm not sure about this figure, it feels like they rush this figure. I just get this as a collectible, but is it really worth buying this one?
It like "I gotta have all S.H. MonsterArts!" I'm trying to collect them all but some are becoming so expensive and rare. I only have three so far.
You could fix that mid section on the tail but getting some rubber gloves, and cut them to fit around the ball joint and it should make it really resistant to movement and probably keep it from coming out so easily.
It's a pretty cool figure...
Not 100% accurate but it's the only posable fig of Shin Goji so it's the best we have.
I wish the lower jaw can split in half tho, like in the movie. I do understand that by having that may be a fragility issue.

Fantastic review bro!!! I do love the look of this piece and would love to get one but I may hold off for the repaint. It's really a shame because Bandai is certainly capable of much better paint. However I've noticed a trend. I collect a lot of Figuarts and they have been making a lot of QC mistakes lately. It's like they reached the pinnacle of their craft and then slacked off. I've been collecting for a long time but not monster figures. I'm new to the Kaiju game. I just got my first the Eva unit 1 crossover that you reviewed and I love it because I'm a huge Evangellion fan. However I'd like to start a monster collection and besides this one that I do like are there any other must haves that you could suggest I hunt for. Also, did you ever bother with the Shin Gojira reissue? Or was it not really any different enough for you to spend a TON of money on.
I have the reissue. I have not had a chance to open it just yet. I am going to make a video comparing the two.

Great review, I plan on getting this figure mainly for the articulation, and hopefully a somewhat decent paint job. Otherwise I'll be picking up other Shin Godzilla figures(X-Plus, 1st) for my best representation of the design.

I really don't care about paint. I mostly buy SHMA figures just to pose and I never identify paint aps. Yeah it's a problem but I still love this figure just because it's so big and bulky and it's tail is so long and detailed.

Monsterarts are normally cheapest when preorders first open, or when in the preorder sate in general. AmiAmi had Shin for $85 when it was up fro preorder.

I got super lucky with mine, his teeth look good, his neck is not nearly as red as most and id say, excluding certain lighting, it looks like it matches. Also, and this is the big one, his eyes aren't googly. They aren't looking forward but both symmetrically look out to the side like his 2nd and 3rd form. So i am super happy with my version but i can definitely see why this figure gets so much hate

They are the Option Act buildings. You should be able to pick them up on Amazon.
So I have a question (probably bad place for it) but the ball joint at the very base of the left tail of my king ghidorah figure and near impossible to put the tail on. So would heating the ball joint or joint hole on the tail with a hair dryer work?
Heat up the joint hole and insert the tail before the joint cools off.
I'm not paying $150 AUD plus postage to get a Shin Gumzilla. Definitely waiting for NECA's Shin Godzilla release.
