- Jesus said, "You MUST be born again" to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. In this video I will answer the question; what does it mean to be born again? I will discuss the born again experience, and explain what the Bible says about being born again. I also teach that a person cannot know what it is like to be born again, until they experience it for themselves.

Right! I was atheist for 40 years. Born again 10 years ago. That is how I describe it. You see the world with different eyes- God’s eyes! You see yourself through those eyes too and it makes you so grateful that Jesus would take the punishment and redeem you. Glory! ❤
It is beyond our ability, beyond any words in any language, to explain what being Born Again is. I just know that it happened to me the instant I accepted Christ as my Savior. I was sitting on my bed, thinking about all the things I had read and heard about Jesus, a thousand thoughts flew through my mind. In less than a heartbeats time, I finally understood who Jesus was and what He had done for me. My eyes were literally opened, and I could truly see for the first time in my life. I changed in that moment. The change was so profound that my mother noticed it immediately, was herself convicted and Born Again too as was my husband. Thank you, Matt. I love your water demonstration. Maybe I'll use it the next time someone asks me to describe what happened to me. 🙏🙏🙏✝️✝️✝️
When I see the world through Gods eyes,my heart breaks.
Oh my . . . you brought tears to my eyes. I was born, raised and baptised Polish Catholic in the US, way back in 1957. As a teen of the 70s, young adult of the 80s and 90s . . . I lived an extremely selfish and hedonistic lifestyle. The Catholic church pedophile scandals of the 90s pushed me even further away from seeking a relationship with our Lord. In the 2000s came The "Four Horsemen of the New Atheism", which included Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, and Daniel Dennett. I read all of their books, I watched all of their debates and I wallowed in their empty rhetoric for close to a decade. It's so distressingly sad how I wasted so much precious time, turning my back on the free gift of grace offered by our Creator. You see, somewhere along the line, I had picked up this horrific idea that the Bible was nothing more than a history book, written by an bunch of old Middle Eastern men. As a confirmed bibliophile who owns an embarrassing number of books and as a person who has travelled extensively and who lives abroad . . . let's just say I felt self-satisfied and smug in my ignorance. To make a long story a bit shorter, I felt empty and lost. I started to listen to a wider variety of opinions around this time . . . from Jordan Peterson, John Lennox to TH-camrs like Joe Kirby. And then along came COVID. COVID finally opened my eyes to how so many of us are willing to blindly follow flawed and deceitful men just because they are considered "experts", just because they have a piece of paper declaring them "all knowing". Will anyone ever be able to explain the logic of the vaccinated being fearful of the unvaccinated? That nasty bit of fearmongering which was being pushed by mainstream news media and governments worldwide made my skin crawl. Latent tyranny was just waiting in the wings to rear its ugly head. No one was going to force me to inject an experimental liquid into my body or wear a filthy face diaper all day long. The reaction of family and friends of my decision to NOT participate in the hysteria was yet another moment of recognition. In the spring of 2023, I found myself in a very, very dark place and alone. I started going on walks at daybreak, begging God to help me. I started saying the Lord's Prayer repeatedly on my walks. Then on the 4th of July of 2023, after my morning walk begging God to forgive me and to help me, I came home and for the first time I pulled out a Bible from my library of books. And for reasons I may never truly understand, I opened that Bible to the Book of John. What happened . . . what happened is so much like your analogy of being wet. It is so tremendously hard to describe to other people. I started reading the first chapter of John and I started shaking . . . just a couple of paragraphs into reading and I started crying uncontrollably . . . it suddenly dawned on me, as if I had been struck by a bolt of lightning . . . I was reading THE WORD OF GOD. Since that day, I have given my life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I left this testimony because I wanted to thank you for your analogy of being wet. May God bless and protect you and yours. All Glory Be To God! Maranatha!
That is so incredibly powerful. Thank you so much for sharing that. I pray that this channel will continue to bless you in your faith journey. God bless you, Matt 🙏

I was saved March 7th, 2019 I think by the Holy Spirit!
It was the Wednesday for Lent and I was going to that church!
I never drive at night and was not planning to go!
But I was compelled to go! I just had to!
From 2012 to 2019, 7 years of asking God to bring my 2 sons back into my life!
When I got home from that evening service, I felt a touch on my head!
I got down and started praying!
All the evil that I had done, and all the evil in the world was shown to me!
I did not ask to be saved!
Thank you Jesus for saving me!
Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah!

When I asked God into my life the veil removed and I noticed all the sin around me and in the world
I experienced the new birth. There is nothing like it. I was in love with Jesus and every person I came across. I just couldn't keep the love of Jesus contained in my being. I wish it would have lasted for ever.
“ABIDE in ME, and I in you.
As the branch Cannot bear fruit of itself except it ABIDE in the vine;
No more can you, Unless you ABIDE in ME.”

My born again experienced. Before I got saved: I had no hope, the bible didn't make any sense, I was a slave to sin, life had no meaning. After I got saved: My heart overflowed with joy, I was a free man, the bible made perfect sense, I knew that Jesus was real and alive, no amount of money or anything could satisfy, what jesus satisfied in my life .
Sadly, many sitting in the pews never received this measure. Pray for eyes to be opened and hearts to be changed
Yea, it feels like I can only hope for it, or I'm not seeing it right.
Freshman year I received the gospel and believed I was born again. However, I never grew or had a hunger for the word or build a relationship to Jesus and resisted the desire to be baptized due to embarrassment. Matthew chapter 13 and the parable of the Sower and the seed among the thorns is what I believe explains what happened to me. Then over 20 years later in early April of this year I fully gave my life over to the Lord and truly experienced what it means to be born again. I've never had a love and hunger for the word or a relationship with Jesus like I do now. Next month I'm getting baptized because I can't hold it in and want to shout it from the rooftops!
Well done and said, brother Matt!
It feels like a towel getting wetter the more it dries . I can only with Gods help keep doing my part in Gods plan for me after everything was put in place & all I had to do was invite Jesus into my heart as my Lord & Saviour. I didn’t know that to be born again that was the how to have to receive. Christians including myself need to lead people to salvation more. God Bless the old man who lead me to our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ & thanks for letting me use up this space to share a small part of my testimony
Great video Matt. A person's subjective born again experience and the changes (2 Cor. 5:17) that are brought about truly are very difficult to describe to someone who hasn't had the same experience. When I became born again, the changes brought about in me were so drastic that my friends, relatives and co-workers all commented that they no longer recognized me as the person they once knew.
Praise God 🙏
Great Illustration Brother !!!...EVERYONE who is, or will be Born again MUST Believe in The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit John3:16 !!!...They MUST also Believe, Live and Recite Romans 10:9 !!!...Being Saved is not just Religion, its a Relationship with Jesus Christ, its a Lifestyle...for ever on Earth !!!
Amen! 🙌🏻
Amen matt
Such a great message! I loved when you mentioned that we go from seeing God through the world’s eyes to seeing the world through God’s eyes. It is truly an amazing experience 🙏
I agree with you brother!
Also, unless God gives someone a revelation of Biblical truth, they are likely to reject it.
I usually give the example of being born again by saying I can describe indepth, an amazing holiday destination to you, but unless you believe what I'm telling you, and go there yourself, you will never know nor understand. But if you do go, then you will say. Now I know. Now I understand, because I have been there too!
I'm glad you happened to be drinking water and not a soda. 😄
It WAS a good illustration.
Hope you're having a great weekend. Howdy from Kansas. 👋
Thank you! You too!
Hi Matt
Very true the feeling of being born again cannot be explained, but the feeling is amazing. Or should we say the feeling is unexplainable .
Great illustration. Love it. 🙏❤️
It is truly amazing! Thank you, Father and Jesus! 🙌🙌
I grew up in the Carholic church, converted to Christianity and got saved thru a friend's church, and been attending Times Square Church since 2005, my church was founded thru David Wilkerson!
I love him!!
@@lionoffireraw I've noticed you talk about Pastor David, he was my beloved pastor, unfortunately he died in a horrific car accident!
Yeah it felt so crazy, and for quite a while it felt like I was almost “melting” away from the world, that’s the best way I can describe it. Just my opinions on everything, how I saw everyone, and myself, the sheer joy. I had a smile that was almost plastered on permanently for a while. And yet, I still doubt if I am saved sometimes. Like what if I was deceiving myself or something. I don’t get how I can look back at that and it’s not enough.
Thanks brother. Great example.
✝️
A good illustration, and a vital point, the new birth must be experienced to be known.
A point to notice in the Word of God, is what follows John 3. Three examples of what being born again looks like: John 4.
1/ The woman being drawn by Christ. He using the very thing she knew of the Messiah - he will tell us all things. And he tells her all things that ever she did.
2/ Then the Samaritans that believed just because of her word.
3/ Then those who had to go and hear him themselves, and then they believed.
The inspired word of God is full of these real life examples of being born again, or coming to full assurance of faith. The Ethiopian Eunuch, Lydia, the Philippian jailor, the Apostle Paul.
There are so many differences in how a person is born again, but the end result is still the same, a new creature in Christ.
Amen! Thanks for writing that. Matt 🙏
Great object lesson! Thank you, Matthew!
❤
Your message here is similar to what my pastor preached today, she preached about John 4, Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman at the well , giving her Himself as her Living Water! We can never feel thirsty with Jesus, He satisfies us!
Yes. He is also the bread of life 😃

@@lionoffireraw Amen Matt , thank you for the video, I heard about that, actually it was my former senior pastors wife that preached today, she comes to preach on Mothers Day every year! Is that bad?
@@lionoffireraw I just watched the video you sent me thanks again, so women are to do certain roles in the church but not to preach, but what if it's a guest speaker like I had today, is that still considered unbiblical?
Unlike the rest of humanity who were 'born of the flesh', Jesus was 'born of the Spirit' from conception, albeit with our fleshly nature through Mary. He still had to learn obedience 'through the things that he suffered', but, unlike us, achieved this to perfection.
Praise God for providing us the Saviour!
I believe, help my unbelief, so I can show the fruits of the Spirit!
Exactly Matt, it's like explaining what is real love to the person who never experienced it. You can explain it by the best words available to you. Yet one authentic deed from your side for that person can make all the difference all of a sudden and goes straight into the heart.

John 3:8🙌✝️🕊
I'm really glad you're seeing results. Growing the priesthood. I don't care how a person comes to Christ or what technique is used as long as it's real. Seeing people converting is what's important. It's the great commission. My comment was concerning the power of God's Word. I'm very aware of what the prophets' past actions were. Got a couple of questions for you, and don't take them personally. It's not my intention to fight or insult you. It's to get you thinking. 1. Is God's Word more powerful, or is tactics more powerful? 2. Are you claiming to be a prophet in your response back to me. Like Isaiah or Jeremiah were, placing yourself alongside them? I will always believe that nothing beats scripture. That God's Word is the power that puts people under conviction, and it's up to them to accept salvation. Tactics are just a tool, and they can be useful, but it's not His Word. People use all kinds of tactics, like telling sad stories or hyperbole or stunts, to convince people to come to Jesus. But what happens afterward? Like in vacation bible school, where children say they've come to Christ, but a few years later, where are they? Most leave Christianity. I've seen a lot of adults come under tactical influences, and when it wares off, they're back living in sin. I've never seen a person do that after being witnessed to by an evangelist, that I'm aware of. I'm 67 years old and have been a born-again Christian most of my life. Fell under a false belief when I was young that I was saved, but one day, I realized I didn't have a personal relationship with Christ. Felt like a fool for falling in a false trap but was greatly relieved when I found him. That's what worries me about tactics, someone falling into a false sense of salvation. In Hebrews, where it says, "it's appointed for all men to die & face judgment" coming face to face with God, a lot of people will hear, I DON'T KNOW YOU. And they'll answered back, "I've casted out demons in your name," and they here I DON'T KNOW YOU. That's called false believers. That's why I'm against using tactics, it can lead people into a false security. But God's Word won't.
Amen.
HALLELUJAH!!!

Matt, thank you so much for this video. I wish I could remember the exact date that I accepteed Jesus into my life, but it was fall 2022, I at least know that. I have a question that maybe you could do a video to answer, or maybe you've already done one. My daughter asked about getting baptized and when to do that, and what the reason is. I'm not 100% certain on that, if you can share your thoughts, that would be wonderful.
If she has given her life to Jesus Christ, and made a commitment to follow him, she should get baptised as soon as possible. There is no reason at all for delay. I hope that helps. God bless you, Matt
@@lionoffireraw She has not yet given her life to Jesus Christ, she was asking the meaning of being baptized. I'm not sure I fully understand the answer in order to explain it to her.

[9] If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
So if your daughter has such faith, and commitment, she should get baptized, simply because Jesus has commanded it. Here is the Bible verse: Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20). Through baptism we are cleansed from our sins, unrighteousness, and we receive Holy Spirit. Here I copied from the website: "Being submerged in the water represents death to sin, and emerging from the water represents the cleansed, holy life that follows salvation. Very simply, baptism is an outward testimony of the inward change in a believer’s life. Christian baptism is an act of obedience to the Lord after salvation; although baptism is closely associated with salvation, it is not a requirement to be saved." I hope that helps 🙂

When Jesus said, "Ye must be born again, or you cannot see the kingdom of God", He was explaining the resurrection. We had to be born to come into this physical world. We will have to be "born again" in the resurrection to come into the kingdom of God.
John 3:3-6 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water [physical birth, born] and of the Spirit [resurrected, born again], he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
We are still flesh (dust); we are not yet spirit.
John 3:7-9 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
We are not yet like the wind.
1 Corinthians 15:53-54 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
Ezekiel 37:11-14 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts. Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves, And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.
Love the water illustration!!
Buuut....I'm not sure I completely understand. Maybe you could re-do the video with a BIG BUCKET of water?!! 🤭 💧💧💧💧
You're right, though! It IS hard to describe to people what it's like to be born again.
I never thought about it like that - comparing it to describing "wet". Clever! 😄
Let’s be clear - being born again is an actual event that takes place. A spiritual rebirth indeed!!
Reciting a prayer doesn’t perform it.
Claiming a belief doesn’t perform it.
Only the Holy Spirit can regenerate someone who’s dead - converting one’s soul from death to life.
2 Corinthians 13:5 - Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
Baptism erases the stain of original sin, and all personal sin, as well as all punishment for sin. (Acts 2:38). Baptism not only purifies from all sin, but also makes the neophyte a new creature, an adopted son of God., who has become a partaker of the divine nature (2 Cor.5:17. 2. Peter 1:4. Gal. 4:5-7) member of Christ and co-heir with him..(1. Cor.6:15; 12:27. Rom 8:17.), and a temple of the Holy Spirit.( 1. Cor. 6:19)
The Most Holy Trinity gives the baptised sanctifying grace, the grace of justification : enabling them to believe in God, to hope in him and to love him through the theological virtues. Giving them the power to live and act under the prompting of the Holy Spirit, through the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Allowing them to grow in goodness through the moral virtues. The whole organism of the Christian's supernatural life has its roots in Baptism.
In the words "Faith Alone" Martin Luther added the word "Alone"
Baptismal regeneration is a heresy. But a person who is truly been born again, will obey God and get baptised.
So now you're agreeing with the charismatics and I must feel this new birth in order to know I'm saved? And if I don't feel anything then I'm not saved?
I’m saying that a transformation will occur.
We see things through the eyes of the Holy Spirit, for the first time.
Anyone that has been truly born again and received the Holy Spirit knows they didn’t receive it by water baptism.
Is this an attack on Anglicanism, Presbyterianism, and Lutheranism?
100% true!!
Baptismal regeneration is a heresy. The person who is truly saved will obey God, and be baptised. But baptism itself is not salvific. We are saved by grace alone through faith alone, in Christ alone!
@lionoffireraw I know the moment when I first experienced being born again, and it wasn't when I was baptized, but I really like Lutheranism and I'm just not sure their beliefs contradict that even though it might sound like.
I spoke to a Lutheran pastor and he said my born again experience is when God reached out to me to bring me into his kingdom, which i took to mean the beginning of my regeneration, but the baptism was when it was fully completed i think.
This seems to have been what all the church fathers and virtually every Christian believed for 1500 years. I know which one was the more imprtant one though (my born again experience, not my Baptism)
Right. I myself have been baptized twice in my life. I got rebaptized some years ago, in my early 40's, because I was pretty sure I wasn't really saved when I was originally baptized around age 12. However, I still continued to think like the world, do fleshly things, and my spiritual growth was slow. I became bitter after losing a job, and fell away somewhat. However, I recently repented, and felt the presence of the Holy Spirit within at that time, and a lot of my outlook and thinking changed, making me wonder if I was truly saved after my second baptism, but I don't have plans to be rebaptized again. I'm just trusting God that my previous baptism served the purpose for which it was intended - an outward symbol of my faith in Jesus and His salvation made possible through faith in His death and resurrection - and I know in my heart that I am truly saved now.
@lawrencehorner8418 I know exactly what you mean. Ultimately, only we know if our experience was true or not, but it sounds like you know your experience the second time was real.
If you were raised as a Baptist/Pentacostal, it's very typical, unfortunately, to make a false profession of faith as a child in order to fit in from what I've heard. This is one reason I can't in good conscience oppose infant Baptism much. Is it ideal? Perhaps not. Is it better than our child making a false profession of faith? Yes, I think so.
That said, what you experienced the third time sounds similar to what I experienced, too. I think what was happening was that you were in danger of falling away, but God pulled you back to him. It wasn't you getting saved, but rather your faith being renewed, I think.
For me, I had something similar happen, and this is one reason I'm looking into Lutheranism. I feel I got complacent with my faith, and I think I started to sin and even not feel as guilty about it as I should have, and I truly believe if I had continued on that path, I would have lost my faith.
I'm really not sold on "once saved, always saved." I wish it were true, but multiple verses of the Bible seem to heavily imply that not only is it not true, but that the stakes of being wrong could be irreversible. I'm especially thinking of Hebrews Chapter 6 when I say this.
This is one reason I'm looking into Lutheranism. They reject once saved, always saved, but they do so in a way that I believe isn't works based like Catholocism.
The only thing that bothers me is how limited Lutheranism spread compared to reformed Christianity, but I think our reformed brothers are close enough that they can be thought of as part of the same form of true "apostolic Christianity" that is the true inheriter of the early church that Catholics think was the Catholic Church, but wasn't (I think the Catholic Church was actually founded when it excommunicated Martin Luther, becauss at that time, the early church split between the Catholic Church and mainline Protestanism. Either that or we can think of it as starting when it separated itself from Constantinople in 1056 AD).
You don't need theater antics, stunts, or anything other than God's Word to witness to people. Nothing comes close to an old-fashioned evangelist using God's Word to convert people. The power of God's Word is what touches peoples hearts, not stunts or putting on a show. A show doesn't do anything but entertain folks. Get into teaching God's Word, and you'll see results.
I’m not sure if you realise, but God actually commanded the prophets to do demonstrations, a number of times, to illustrate a point. It even included ridiculous things!!
Eg. Ezekiel lying on his side, Jeremiah walking around with a yoke on etc…
I am seeing results…
🤐
Nope, not for me, I didn't experience anything like that... and I struggle with all things spiritual, most probably because I am decieved in being a Christian let alone being BA, though a bit late in life now at 72, so guess I will have to wait and see if I am rejoicing or gnashing my teeth.
I recommend you speak to your local pastor. Assurance is hard won for many but I do think it's possible. This video seems to assume all will know instantly but the Westminster Confession says many will struggle for assurance for a long time
Whilst I agree that many struggle with this, the Westminister Confession holds to the false teachings of Calvinism/Reformed theology, so be careful when referencing that!!

Nope, sorry, but I actually reject words like "feeling" and "experiencing," since both actually convey the wrong idea about salvation in Christ. To me, those words are just psychobabble, and the touchy-feely emotional stuff comes and goes with we human beings and can't be trusted, if we are being honest with ourselves. I also don't use the words "born again" since those words in the bible actually refer to Israel and NOT to the body of Christ today under grace, if you read your bible carefully. And you DO have to read and study the bible sooner or later. Some folks never get beyond the touchy-feely stuff, and it shows when they speak.
For me, being SAVED was a moment in time when things clicked in my MIND. I was fully conscious, sitting by myself at home, when I "got it." And no, I can't say I got slap-happy and got goose bumps, jumped up and down or spoke in tongues, lol, but I sure did FULLY understand in my MIND that that Jesus had ALREADY done it ALL for me. I had heard the gospel preached to me as explained by Paul in I Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV: "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures."
Not only that, but I know I am now SEALED by the Holy Spirit, Ephesians 1:13 KJV: "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise." I have a sound mind, 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV, " For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a SOUND MIND." And according to I Corinthians 2:16 KJV: "For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but WE HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST."
