I like the toys, but the conversation was the best bit for me by far. The way you guys talked about addiction and coming to terms with shit was awesome. Honestly brought a tear to my eye. Thanks for the inspiration Richard and the email you sent me. Some days are a struggle still, but I will always remember your advice and I have been keeping things under control. Not quite there yet, but I believe I am avoiding a potential catastrophe by you sharing your story with me. Thanks man. Keep up the awesome videos ❤️

My friends don’t understand how I love taking the scooter to the store. I prefer the freedom of being on a scooter as a pedestrian. Freedom is so precious. I would love the ATV! However I have a scooter which keeps me from speeding lol. I shared this as you are so informative. Great story!

My accident happened in April… T11 paraplegic. I’ve been going through it, I’m back to living in my own apartment.. good and bad days.
Hearing you guys talk about addiction and how easy it is for people with our condition to wanna just give up, not get outta bed, etc.. also brought a tear to my eyes. Seeing all the adaptive equipment is inspiring, I love your videos, I’m glad I found your channel.

Just randomly stumble upon your channel. Even though I don't have a wheelchair, I can relate to the feeling of being watched and pointed at by people. Due to my chonic illnesses and mental health issues I have a service dog. Toghether with my medical equipment I always carry with me my "invisible" disability becomes visible for the public. I realy stuggled with that for quite some time. Nowadays I know that most people are actualy curious but just don't know how to aproach someone. Your channel could realy help educate people and make others feel like they are not alone. You have educated me about people in a wheelchair.
Keep up the great work. 👍

Richard I just wanted to thank you for putting this out there. My husband was disabled from birth with cerebral palsy and although he could walk short distance he relied heavily on his wheelchair. But what always flabbergasted me was someone looking at his legs, seeing how badly outta whack they were and still calling him a lier and a fake. Unfortunately his disability caught up to him 2 and a half years ago and he passed away.
I to am disabled though not to such an extent as you or my husband. I still need my crutches and or the store scooter when I'm out and about. I can walk perfectly on some days, for a short period, but if I don't have some kind of support I'll regret it quickly. I simply cannot understand why people are so rude to disabled people or why perfectly healthy people feel the need to fake it.
I am very glad you are sharing with the world what being physically disabled really means. Again thank you. And thank you for letting me ramble on.

I love your channel, even tho I dont have any health issues you made me look at life from other perspective.. i saw you, random guy in wheelchair being so happy after all he went through with a smile on his face. I was like wow this guy is amazing, then i watched few of ur videos and realized that even if you're in wheelchair you would find mental strength, physical, will and motivation to go and workout in gym, make your self better pearson.. that motivated me so hard to just be grateful on little things we have in our life.. i mean they are nkt little but we sure don't notice them. Like talkin, hearing, tasting, feeling,BEING ABLE TO WALK? And every single day , since i saw u first time on yt i remember and how u actually made something out of your life even tho you are disabled.. thank you for your youtube channel, i love it, keep the good work

Unbelievable Richard , I’ve been bouncing around on TH-cam now for the last year trying to get knowledge and strength from these type videos. And today I found your channel and I am so thankful! Although my story is a little different but beyond that my story is your to the T! On June 30th 2018 I was struck by a van while I was broke down on the side of Interstate I-20 here in Jackson, Ms. my 16 year old son was with me but luckily he was unhurt. My leg was amputated on scene and he witnessed all of this, basically the left side of my body was mangled. Hopefully I had my 11 and final surgery two weeks ago because I haven’t been able to walk on my limb yet because it has been to painful. All the emotions, feelings , just everything that you went through I am going through now and obviously I have been confined to a wheelchair the last year. Before my accident I was police officer assigned to our traffic unit where I was assigned to the motorcycle unit. Your videos are amazing and do helpful. I hope there is some way we can possibly get together in person and maybe you can help me with some things I’m dealing with. I would be willing to come wherever you are Richard. You are definitely doing your calling, keep it up brother, would love to hear from you. Carlos amazing my brother!

By the way, Canam and Yamaha both sells ATV with automatic transmission. I'm driving a Canam Outlander 500. The only problem could be the height, the chassis is quite bulky compared to the ATV shown in this video. Great video (besides the loud music again), keep it up!

No one is ever disabled...just are just more able as they get creative to do whatever they want. I've been binging on your videos and your enthusiasm and infectious drive to just overcome anything...yeah the world needs more people like you. Whatever you do just don't lose track of your inspiring others to just learn and don't give up!
And as an aside to ANY one, don't ever be afraid to ask for a hand no matter the situation, most folks would bend over backwards to assist anyone, seriously.

I don’t have any disabilities but ever since I was very young and although I’m still young (I’m 14) I have been obsessed with learning about disabilities mainly physical ones and I love learning about service animals, wheelchairs and more things that help disabled people get around and I know that when I’m older I want to help the people in this community because it amazes me how much people can adapt and I love your videos
I also didn’t mention that I don’t stare at wheelchairs because I find it like something I shouldn’t be looking at or something but if I catch myself staring and the person in it catches me I won’t look away suddenly because I admire wheelchairs because I think they are so cool and without them I know a lot of people would be home bound and I can’t imagine that and of course I’m it going to be staring creepily at someone’s wheelchair or anything just glancing over because I think it is cool

    • @MCscarfacematt
      @MCscarfacematt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

i had my stroke at 17 after a car accident im left side paralyzed my mother was told id never see walk or talk that id be dead in months. well... in 13 days it will be 12 years since my stroke ive been living on my own for 8 years now. I am in the end stages of building myself a golfcart mobility aid because im 29 way to young for an old lady scooter i plan on driving it across Canada to raise money for better stroke research of strokes in young people because lets face it strokes typically happen to seniors so thats the research the doctors learn from and i know if a senior had my stroke im sure they never would have been able to see walk or talk and be dead in months but i was a high school senior.
in-hospital I lost 20 pounds of muscle because all i could do was lie there in a coma for 6 weeks so they made me gain it back and i never really stopped i went from 160lbs down to 140lbs then up to 325 lbs but after a year I'm back down to 280 still considered obese at 6 foot 4 but I see a huge improvement on my energy levels and knees feel a lot better
from one stroke survivor to another all I can say is doctors only know what they were taught and they were taught strokes in seniors set your own recovery timeline set small goals achieve them and they all add up and become a big goal

I just recently got a new ATV to take the place of the side by side I had a couple years ago that I had to sell due to financial issues. I gotta say the seating position of the Polaris RZR I had was great. I didn’t have to worry about seating issues or height. The power steering was a big feature for me. I knew how hard it can be to turn the handlebars while traveling at low speed or a stop. The seat also was less painful for me because you are leaned back slightly instead of sitting in a more upright posture associated with a four wheeler (my injury is lower spine and sitting upright without support is very painful). I couldn’t afford another side by side but I did find a Polaris Sportsman ATV. It is automatic and has an electric power steering option. Not only is your throttle on your handlebars but your brakes are as well with an emergency brake pedal on your foot peg. It has a hand operated shift lever that is similar to what you would have on an automatic car. I added a wind screen to take the wind off of my body to remove that variable, which can be painful after a bit of fighting it’s force. I also added a back rest. It’s not a racing seat that hugs you and holds you in one place but at the very least I’m able to get outdoors now. I have thought about making a couple different adaptive devices. One is a piece that would allow you to lean forward against it at an angle between 45 and 90 degrees to take some of your upper body weight off your lower back. Another would be similar but to lay back against and curve into the seat, almost arching your back to get as close to the position of those zero gravity chairs. The last one would be the most difficult because you would almost need to design the ATV around the seat. I didn’t get the chance to try out the Polaris Ace but it seems to be promising. A single seat RZR with the size of a normal ATV, with the added benefit of a roll cage. If I went with that my wife wouldn’t be able to go riding with me unless we got 2 so....

I'm wondering which three tourism destination you would recommend to wheelchair users? Or which three country is the most accessible friendly? 😊

I'm still in hospital but gotta keep fighting. I'm getting skin graphs to cover my leg so hopefully it goes well. its nice to see someone who's been through something similar , although alot worse it's good u seem to be doing well

Just moved to Port Charlotte Florida 2 yrs ago. I was with a friend at his families place in Tampa and they were inviting me to go out Jet skiing with them and now here I am coming across this video. I'm a T-4 Burst Fracture from a motorcycle accident just like yours. I'm paralyzed from below the chest down and have been like this going on 22 yrs May 14th 1999.... I'm going to get me a Jet ski. I just need to know where do you get the straps for the tie down into the Jet ski? and is there any tips you can give me being a brand new owner of a jet ski? btw. My motorcycle was a Honda CBR 900. I loved my bike but sold it a few months after getting out of the hospital. I wasn't upset just thought I couldn't do nothing with it so why let it sit there. Stay up man and continue doing your thing. Thanks for the inspiration

Gotta be careful with that jet ski Witt the straps mighh want to develop different system if he rolled it and was knocked out he would be stuck underwater and risk drowning unlike a traditional jetski setup where you would just fall off if it rolls. Other than that awesome setup!

How are you able to use the rear brakes on the quad? Its located on the right side for right foot. I'm an above right knee amputee and I'd like to be able to use my rear breaks when riding my quad. Thank you and great videos. Would like to talk sometime, from and amputee point of view. Peace.
