I will be taking mine next month so your comment is very encouraging! Thank you so much to Dr. Chaffin for these videos, I wouldn't have made it through my BB class or rotation without them! And congrats!
I discovered that our profs at the university did nothing to teach us BB, but you just made it so easy! Thank you so much!! Will be taking my exam soon and now I'm much confident that I can do great on BB questions. That's really helpful and opened my mind and just made the BB the most fun! Thanks again!
Hi... I want to thank you for this video. I am a laboratory science instructor and I know how it feels to talk that long but seems to cover so small portion only of a ginormous topic. So I think you are very generous of your time and energy. I am reviewing for a licensure exam in UAE and this helps me a lot in recalling important things in Immunohematology. I appreciate the help this video extends. :)
I've been spending my last decade in Immunological fertility diagnostics and have hit a bit of a wall in my interest in it. Your videos and podcasts have lit this new fire in me to pursue blood transfusion/banking (as a hobby for now). But who knows where I'll go from here. Thank you for shaking up my biological world.
Awesome video. I work at a hospital and rotate in blood bank. We just had a patient with anti-U antibody. Pt needed transfusion. This U negative blood type is extremely rare. We had to call red cross to get these units. They were frozen units and saved for occasions like these.
I had a wonderful instructor for my lectures in college and still there were things here that clarified so much for me with your visual aids. Some of them might have felt silly when you made them, but hey, sometimes the simplest concepts can get lost amidst the thick of things. I don't feel so freaked out for my upcoming MT exam now.
This is the best lecture I've gone to for better understanding BB.. Easy to remember the key concepts for each of the blood groups. Sooooo much THANKS for this video.
Its 2018 but this can serve as reference yet for me. Thank you and hope you produce more and help inspiring medical-related students like me. God bless! 🤗 😊☺️
Thank you BB guy...your podcast and notes made me realize how interesting blood banking principles...it allowed me to understand basic principles so clearly...thank you so much
It was a very in-depth (and now my brain hurts!), however, highly informative and helpful to me. I am recently employed (in training) by a trauma center and must brush up on my blood bank theory. This is a great refresher for me since I passed my ASCP nearly 25 years ago and have only worked in very small blood banks in the past. I appreciate the material. You are an awesome teacher. But WOW, do you talk fast! ;-)
Excellent lecture, very detailed. I was hoping you could clarify something for me in regards to the biochemical structure of the H antigen: in the video, you show the terminal galactose being bound to a subterminal N-Acetylgalactosamine, however I have encountered this structure described as being comprised of the terminal galactose bound to a subterminal N-Acetylglucosamine rather than an N-Acetylgalactosamine in various immunohematology textbooks. Which model is correct? Thanks!
GlcNAc is correct, Levi. It was a typo that got distributed throughout all the diagrams, and I didn't notice it until a year or so after I recorded it. It will be corrected in future updates. Thanks for noticing.
Substantial video, worth to watch. But I was hoping, I could find the JMH blood group system on your vid. 'coz I really need it for my report. I already googled it, but the infos. are so limited. Hayyy..
Unfortunately, this vid is not update.. Your slide present only 30 blood groups at 2012 ..But... Nowadays, 031 FORS, 032 JR, 033 LAN, 034 VEL, 035 CD59 and 036 Augustine just made 36 blood groups with the variation of 346 red cell antigens.. lol.. Don't worry.. More to come! Mark my word!!!
I enjoy this. This overview covered alotta things from the many lectures I cbf goin through all. I know the information is in the handout, but can there also be the powerpoint or pdf for the lecture? It's just easier to read the main points.
For that particular lecture, no. I will be doing a new version this year, so perhaps I will make the slides available for download then, but not for this version of the lecture.
Greetings from Greece!A lot more comprehensive than reading all that stuff on a book!I will definitely go on watching all other videos as well!I notice that there are more videos here on youtube channel than on the website..for example i didn't notice on the website the videos about plasma and platelets...Am i right?
I only studied this video about 3 times before taking my ASCP MLS and blood bank was my highest score on it... thanks for these videos
Wow! Thanks so much, and congratulations!
I'm from the Philippines and I'm planning on taking the ASCPi soon. You did much better than my BB professor! Thank you for your videos and notes.

Elizabeth Becerra I am studying to take my MLS ASCP exam myself and I find all the BB guy's videos extremely helpful

Thanks a lot BloodBankGuy. One of the topics you covered here appeared on my board exam.

Not specifically, Christian. Sorry about that!

Nice work. Your lecture is just what I needed.
You are incredible another ASCP listener and my protests are showing bloodbank as a promising area due to your videos
wow i just understand from you the mechanism of the effect of proteolytic enzymes on the surface of the red cell that was a brain opener thanks
Great Thanks for spending your time doing this it is fabulous!

The plasma and platelet videos are the only ones not on the BBGuy site, because they are both so old. They will eventually be replaced.
