Every Saturday, after American Bandstand and Soul Train in the morning. This was on Saturday evenings like 7ish. I would put these on and try to dance like them. Lol.
@@kerreill omg yes, all three shows were a rare TV staple of my childhood besides sports participation! The era when my generation was actually active outside the home! Without the negatively driven social media and reality TV! I was born in January 1972 so thank God for Solid Gold, Bandstand and as the legendary Don Cornelius said "Come along and take a ride on the Train" Soul Train! That was what Reality TV was all about
After this premiered, she became a style icon for awhile in 1981/81. Women everywhere dressed like this with the Hairstyle, the headband and the gold-leaf earrings. I remember it well.
Olivia Newton-John was huge in 1982 with 3 Top 5 hits: Physical #1 in January, Make a Move on Me #5 in April, and Heart Attack #3 in November 1982. She hit #1 on Solid Gold too 🤍🤎💙🧡💛💚💜❤🖤.
Andy Gibb and Olivia were very close friends who dated in the 1970,s she is my childhood role model I love her music since the early childhood Farhana Fabulous
use to watch solid gold on my black and white tv set on low volume not to disturb my grandma because she was in my room and did not like rock and roll- boy what memories when i see this.
Imagine a 14 year old clone of Olivia and that was me! I was 14 when this came out and had the 45 single. I was shocked when I saw this on Solid Gold (which we always watched) because I had this exact look: same hairstyle and makeup, the headband, white pirate shirt (which I still have), the boots, the concha belt. I was a big fan of hers from age 10 to 14 back in the day. But this look: the hairstyle, headbands, pirate shirts and concha belts were all the rage in fashion in 1982.
Every time I see her or listen to her songs or hear you talk I cry. I act like they did when they say The Beatles or Elvis. I always thought they were crazy. But she brings soamyotions out in me. I am heartbroken she is gone. I knew she was sick, hut I didn't want to believe it. My idol, my hero, sweet Olivia. Rest in peace sweet lady. After suffering so long with that bad illness you so deserve it!!
Yeah... she was one of those women. You know the ones. They saunter into the room and you're reduced to a slack-jawed gawper and a bumbling dimwit. I swear, it's a kind of involuntary hypnosis. ONJ in her prime was a phenomenon. (Also, any woman prepared to dress up like a pirate has my vote.)
Perfectly expressed. "Good Girl Hotness"! We've all seen it in our lives. Olivia is GGH incarnate, and with world-class talent, looks and personality. A Platonic Ideal. Slutty is easy. This is sublime.
Fans, it is with a heavy heart to tell you all that out beloved singer-songwriter, actress, entrepreneur and activist Olivia Newton-John, a very talented woman of many, has died today at the age of 73 due, in part, to cancer. Even I'm devastated by the sudden, shocking news. To quote Elton John's 1973 hit song, "Candle in the Wind": "Your candle's burned out long before your legend ever did". RIP Dame Olivia Newton-John AC DBE (1948-2022). You will be forever missed, but never forgotten.😥😥😥
Thank you for posting this video. What a wonderful memory. I remember watching it in 1982 after spending a long day desert racing in the Utah west desert on Husqvarna dirt bikes. I was exhausted when I got home that Saturday and just wanted to relax and unwind. I turned on the TV and caught this incredible performance. Somehow it stuck with me for all these years. And watching it again brought back fond memories of the man I was back then, my interests, my girlfriend (who tried to copy Olivia's hairstyle, and the innocence of the age. Wow, what a rush of memories!
Solid Gold was the best Music show ever show casing the artist of the 20th century it set a precedence for the music shows of this century one of a kind
When I was a little boy, my eyes were glued to the TV when Olivia Newton John came on!!. I believe watching her I experienced what true love was, lol or whatever you wanna call it.
@@kerreill Definitely Saturday. I would come home from desert racing and watch this to unwind. I definitely recall this segment with glorious Olivia. I'll never forget it.
It debuted in September 1980 when I was starting third grade! Never missed an episode! And this one resonates a little more! Not only do I remember vividly her performance of this on SG, it happens to be my favorite song of hers
I'm going to share with you all the saddest story you will ever read. It's about an evil step father and how he purposely crushed the dream of a young boy. This boy had an unhealthy infatuation with a singer. Now this lad was but only 10 years of age. However, he adored this singer. Her name was Olivia Newton-John. He would hole himself up in his room with his turntable and the only album he owned - Physical - play it for hours on end. He had the poster from the album on the back of his door to his room so that he could admire her always. A special countdown was being advertised on television. It was a Solid Gold countdown commercial. The commercial promised a performance by Miss Newton-John. Tantalizing this young boy, the commercial would show a glimpse of her performance. He knew he had to watch. He wanted to see this performance so much. He nearly wore out his copy of Physical. He knew all the lyrics to every song. He would not miss her performance of this show for anything. The days passed and the Solid Gold episode was drawing ever nearer. Oh how he listened to Olivia. He fantasized about meeting her. Taking her for a ride on his bike...innocent completely. She owned his heart to be sure - make no mistake!! Finally the day had come and the Solid Gold episode was beginning. His enthusiasm palpable, his anticipation off the charts...pun intended. It started. He watched in anticipation. Mr Gibb would babble on about stuff, other musicians would perform and those annoying dancers...UGH. Where was Olivia Newton-John? The show passed by like what seemed to be an eternity. Then it happened. A most vindictive and evil of men called to the boy, 'John it is time for bed.' TIME FOR BED! What? He answered by saying that Olivia had yet to perform. But this evil man did not care, he had no sympathy for this boys fleeting fantasy of seeing the angel from heaven sing. He commanded this boy to shut the TV off and proceed to bed. All his pleas had fallen on deaf ears. He began to weep. His heart crushed. He wanted to die. He knew that this demand was a sinister pleasure by this evil step dad. This man knew all too well how much he wanted to see Miss Olivia. But there was nothing that could be done. So that night a 10 year old boy went to bed sniveling, weeping until sleep overtook him. However, the heartbreak that he experienced never left. He recalls it to this day 36 years later. If not for this most gracious and charitable soul who posted this video, he may very well have gone to his grave never getting to see it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you a million times over. Thank you.
She is so stinkin' cute. ❤😂 Her little pixie-pirate dance moves between verses, ending with her doing a 180 and melting the camera lens with her sexy eyes (from1:35-1:52) .. She could work a TV camera like nobody's business.
I do like her pop music of the 80's, but I really LOVE her country music from the early to mid 70's. That music really resonated with me, as a teenager feeling alone in the world. I loved Olivia.
I bet there were a lot of guys that wanted to take her up on her offer. She was sweet as candy singing a song like this. The innuendo is something to be missed and so is she.
ONJ was certainly one of the best artists to come out of Australia extremely popular in her native home of Australia and her adopted home of United States and its neigbour to the north Canada as well as the land of her birth England.
