NOWadays you would never see THIS because it would be deemed "politically incorrect" or "un-woke" because all THESE dancers are youthful, slim, trim, and lean and somebody would cry "Hey! Make it more DIVERSE! Get some FAT ones in there! And some OLD ones too! True Beauty ya know!".

Cocaine and dancing was my life back then. It was like high impact aerobics. When I danced in bars I would make sure I had a big space on the dance floor. Sometimes people would move away just to watch me. Looking back I must have looked like a speed freak. LOL
Does it get any more 80s than this? It's all about the spandex. It looks like most of these people did ballet before they came on Solid Gold. They certainly had the bodies for it and it served them well on the show.
3rd episode of Solid Gold air date Saturday September 27th 1980. Who was Latin Dancer & Pat Benatar look-a-like dancer? Original Dancers Paula Beyers, Alex Cole, Deborah Jenssen, Helene Phillips, Pamela Rossi and Darcel Wynne. Paula and Helene left the show after 2 seasons August 1982. Janeen Best & Lucinda Dickey would replace them beginning 3rd season September 11th 1982.
rofl ok my best friend used to say that dance they did at the end always looked like they passed gas and were trying to fan the smell away... I NEVER see that dance without thing of my bff every week going, "yep, one farted again".
You can tell who paid to be near #1 and who deserved to be there. Adult confession to inner child: "I never became a 'Solid Gold' dancer. I am sorry I let you down."
They weren't overweight because they had to be thin to be on the show. And what makes you think the hair was natural? Or that they were friendly? I'd love to see what you look like.

Define your meaning of diverse... Cuz the meaning seems to be different for EVERYBODY, TODAY. By-the-way, Darcel Wynne, the lady with the braids, used to be the principal dancer and one of the lead choreographers for SOLID GOLD... I think she's still has a dance school, or ran one in later years or once worked at one.
It was diverse for the culture of the time. It's today that is absolutely NOT diverse. You'd think we live in sub-Saharan Africa now based on today's representation.
At timestamp 2:20 what is the name of the blonde dancer on the far left? I've been looking around the internet and just don't which dancer she is? My guess is Paula Beyers? BUt, then it could be Helene Phillips? ? ?
I was a solid gold dancer. Every week in my living room. Wow, what memories.
I wasn't a dancer but I was there every week in my room appreciating those curves and those moves. Darcel especially.

Top 10 songs of 1980!! Gotta be!!
God I miss those days...

Wow. Brings back memories. Thanks for posting.
Absolutely obsessed with the Solid Gold Dancers when this came out!
Waiting to see Soldier Boy perform his hit
Rapture was a hit
Memories of 1980 when I was 15/16. They don't make great music like this anymore. Dionne Warwick looked so pretty here.
Darcel! You go girl! I bet that girl can still shake that thang at 70.
When I was a little girl I wanted to be her...✌️
Wow! The nostalgia 😊💖💕
Darcel wynne omg my 15-16 yr old crush
I'm so old.
Didn’t realize Hot Rod Hearts was such a big hit. I don’t think I have heard it on the radio in more than 30 years. Steal Away I still hear.

i use to live for those dancers when i was a kid. Those outfits and the Black girl with the long braids. Darcelle I believe her name is.
They were fit back then .
Who came here after watching "The Boys"?
Darcel!
Putting rythym in my soul!
Upside down was fantastic

To think these young whipersnapers are grandparents now, time...I tell ya
Ain't it beautiful?!
I was a kid watching this with my NOW late Mom, and I'm now the Grandma! SOLID GOLD!🪙
I'm an 80s lunatic, but I don't like that it was termed" the decade of excess." I remember a fancy free quirky times. It was great for me.
When people smiled and were happy!
RIP Olivia Newton-John
Ah, my teenage years encapsulated in one show! 😂
Baaaaaaby! We loved Another One Bites The Dust!!! Lol
Ooh! LET'S GO!
I long for back then! Hot rod hearts! Wow I haven't heard that since back then too! Wow 💘
Memories
The only dancer name I remtis Darcel Winn, before she left to have her baby ♥️
these people are in their 60's now.
Are they? Well then, they're probably in good shape, having done all this dancing in their youth.
You can almost see the cocaine on the set
2:44 Love this part of the dance!

No ink, natural hair color, friendly, feminine, & not overweight
They weren't overweight because they had to be thin to be on the show. And what makes you think the hair was natural? Or that they were friendly?
I'd love to see what you look like.
Who watched Pose on Netflix and came here because of it? Cult !
Me!!!!!!!! Right now!!!
Interest music and song

Wackin' da willy bigtime.
🧚♂️
I grew up loving this show... I knew it wasn't diverse as a child and I know it even more now
Wtf? Make something out of nothing. Must be a poor little liberal.
Not diverse? The way it ought to be!
Not Diverse?

Before 80s music got good 😆
Didn't this come on t.v.around1978 to 1985?
Solid Gold made its debut on Sept 13th 1980, however the pilot 2 hour special Solid Gold '79 came on January 1980.
Fab five freddy told me everybody's fly soilder boy
flash is fast, flash is cool
#10 was missing the dancing gopher. LOL
At timestamp 2:20 what is the name of the blonde dancer on the far left? I've been looking around the internet and just don't which dancer she is? My guess is Paula Beyers? BUt, then it could be Helene Phillips? ? ?
The blonde dancer is Helene Phillips
Diana Ross ❤
Who is the other brunette dancer besides Deborah Jensen? Not familiar with her?
If it’s the one with short black hair her name is Laura Melton, she only appeared on the show in episodes 3 & 4 and was replaced by Kahea Bright
The question now is, How many of the Solid gold Dancers got roofied by Bill?
The answer to your question is 3
This type of dancers is already extinct.
Soldier boy was robbed
Dancing is a dead god Hathor 🌹🌑👍 rest in the good news 💐 Okay bye
