Leigh. You won the lottery when you met Nicky.
She’s one of the hardest workers! And she came with 2 almost identical hard working sisters!
You’re one lucky guy!
Lucky me! 😁
I think there is at lest a thousand people that would come help you, with our “Each” personal talent but we are spread out across the world…our interest and positive good jibes are being sent your way❣️
Vibes, not jibes
TH-cam have got a new set up you can see how many people are watching the video more people view than putting the thumbs up
I just watched a TH-cam by Gemma Wheeler Architect where she was asked to make a tiny attic apartment bigger. Worth watching for you two! She had great window treatments and also did what you're doing by using as much of the roof space as possible for storage. She did swinging bookcases to get into behind the wall storage space!
When dad built our house in 1968 in Sydney, we had to get in within 6 months so he did cheaper finishes on the walls initially and replaced them a few years later with the finish he really wanted. That could be an option? I'd forgotten but recently found that the wood I'd asked him to cut to make my old sofa usable was the original masonite walls! He never threw a good piece of wood out! It was kept to use for something else.
You definitely need to purchase a pair of ear muffs to use while using power tools! And get some saline tear solutions to get the dust out of your eyes. Xx
Wow sounds like we have to watch her! Ideally we want to get everything done now so we don’t have to redo it in a few years, but depending on the budget we’ll have to see how far we can get 😃 as long as we can get all the basics done the decorating can wait 😁
@@NickyandLeigh Yes you do need to. Another tiny house came up in my feed that she'd done so I think you'll get some great ideas from her.
Getting the basics done is definitely the most important thing! Anything else can wait. Xx
If thats tongue and groove, I would try and save what you can. Here in the USA Tongue and groove is expensive.
As far as those dark roof boards, just push on them with your finger. If they are squishy, they are rotting. You should also be able to tell if they are wet, by putting a paper towel on the dark area, push it on hard for a few seconds, and look to see if it's wet after that.
Thanks for the tips! The wood is all good so we’re very lucky 😃😃🙌
It's common to see areas of moisture in random locations where there is no insulation. The smallest open area can cause a lot of condensation where hot and cold temperatures collide. We had a pin hole air leak above one of our attic windows, and I thought that rain was getting in through the roof, but it was just due to lack of air sealing and insulation.
I agree. It looks like condensation. If they close the top off and stuff insulation in the cavity they should be fine :)
Consider consulting an architect to maximize available space, and light. They can work wonders.
Well that's more work than I want to do, glad it's not me having a baby. 👍👍👍👍👍
It's looking good, guys, and a nice treasure find, and 1971 was a great year because i was born. Keep up the great work.
Awesome! Thank you 😃 1971 was a great year 😁🤙🤙
Goed werk beetje muren slopen altijd lekker om naar te kijken😂
You can just cover the pipes with a box and make it a shelf
Yes we were thinking about that! Would be a pretty good solution 😃
For two people without a plan, l think you’re doing an amazing job and extremely quickly. ❤
Haha at least we know what we have to take out! 😂
Very Nice!
That’s just dust mate nothink to worry about mate crack on
Awesome! 😁🙌
Leigh- I think the poke a dot socks gave you the energy to tear down the wooden wall 😂😂Nikki. What a trooper you are!!- best of health to you and Leigh! Great jobs done in every video. Thank you for taking us along!! ❤from Texas
Polka dot ?
You should of taken a few of the timber strips off, enough so you can crawl in to insulate then put the timber strips back on. Then screwed a thermal plasterboard straight to the wooded strips then plaster.
Opening up the baby room wall was a smart move. Might give you a little extra storage space if you can incorporate some shelves in that area.
Yes that sounds like a good plan! You can never have to much storage 😃
For Heaven’s to Betsy don’t kneel on the floor after you’ve dropped those nails out of the wall! 😮 🫣
Moving right along! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Waiting patiently for Day 9(?) ❤
Easier said than done... always!
Absolutely! 😁
🎉
Doing a brilliant job , another step closer to getting it finished 👍
Make the dressers to fit in the slant of the walls when your done insulating and adding a wall. I've seen it done so they go flat with the walls
That sounds like a pretty good idea 😃😃
Nicky, you have a beautiful, warm and rich speaking voice! I bet your singing voice would be the same!🤩. I am a vocal coach of many years!
Nothing is ever as easy as we hope. It will be worth all your hard work when you have a cosy home to enjoy. Don’t wear yourselves out.
Old wood, especially pine, will darken with age. If there are bits missing, have to check for dry rot, water damage or termite damage. But, mostly, it looks like age to me from HERE. LOL Might want to double check with expert.
It looks like a lot of this house was pieced together as they lived in it. I haven't seen much that looked "up to code".
Looks like we're having fun!
You’re spot on there, everything seems to be a DIY job and not a very good one 😅 the wood was okay though! Just old age like you said 😃
@@NickyandLeigh Yeah, all that info in my head from years of working with wood & paint mostly. Dad painted the craft that went to the moon. He could paint darned near anything & taught me. Came in handy! Good luck!
Hi, Nicky and Leigh. Murphy's Law applies to any 'expected-to-be' fairly easy task during renovations. You did extremely well in removing the wall. Baby's room did look a lot bigger afterward, as well
It was nice to see Sarie and Florrie again and having them help out too, is a bonus. You're all doing a great job. Thanks for sharing. Stay healthy and safe, all of you 👍
Thanks mate! It’s definitely turning into a much bigger job than expected but it’s for a good cause, if we just take everything out it means we’ll never have to do it again 😂
And you found a little treasure, and good wishes from the person who lived there before with their jar of coins
Coming in from New Zealand! Oh please please be careful on those stairs, Nicky! Leigh, safety glasses dude! Well done you guys.
Your treasure behind the wall is more square footage. Paint is probable the least expensive choice for the walls. Perhaps a young or starving artist can come in and paint a mural for low cost.
Absolutely, we’re winning so much with taking out these walls 😃😃
I really hope you Guy's find some treasure ? as you have taken on a massive job renovating the hole house which is some size. Cant wait for the next one.
So do we! We’re not giving up yet 😂
You two are amazing!! I'm betting half your fans in the US would hop aboard the nearest plane, axes and drills in hand, to come and help you finish your new home in time for the arrival of your sweet, new baby! I know I would if I could!! xoxo
Thank you so much 😊 we’d have the house ready in no time!
Great couple and another decent video!
Glad you enjoyed it😃
You guys need a sledgehammer in your toolkit! 😂
And an electric saw.
Yes we do 😂😂
Y avait des vices cachés dans cette maison , une belle rénovation après tout ces travaux . Bon courage .Vous pensez avoir fini avant l arrivé de Bébé .
We hope to have everything done before the baby comes but not sure if we’re gonna make it!
Hi Nicky and leigh your renovations are coming on very well . We'll done so far .Greetings from the UK
Thanks so much! 😊
I would put on a new roof! That black may be mold from loose tiles!! Good luck!!
There was no mold! 🙌🙌 the roof is old but seems to be okay so that’s a big relief 😁
Oh, the memories you will have!
Can’t believe all the wood you could be salvaging, you have a big workshop you could store it in
You guys are just the coolest. I love watching your videos, be it fishing or reno. Wish I could find a way cool guy like you, Leigh, to marry...complete with that dreamy accent. I love the way you say "tread on it" when you're fishing instead of "step on it." 😂 It reminds me of America's flag Don't Tread On Me. Keep up the great work you two. 🥰😘🤗🤙 Gotta give you shakas here too!
😊❤
My wife and I love watching your videos here in Nova Scotia. You are both very energetic and I hope Nicky doesn’t push herself too hard with the baby on the way.
Thanks very much! Nicky is definitely taking it much slower these days 😃😃
Watching from Ottawa Ontario, Can. We know how you feel. We renovated our little story and a half house with kneewall like yours.A very smart move as it adds probably 4-5 feet especially if you eventually end up bumping the roof out into a shed dormer. you are doing a fantastic job! Take care with dust etc and breathing it in.
Leigh get all your magnet friends to help xxxx
Bonjour a vous tous et merci pour votre vidéos et bientôt Laurent de France fans de vous
Circular saw the walls by adjusting the saw blade depth so not to cut the structure braces. To make it easier to take a wall out.
Thanks for the tip! That would be pretty
Good 😃
Always the way when you think something's gonna be quick it turns into a long winded job.
You are looking so well Nikki ❤
Thank you both for sharing your adventures
Thanks so much for watching! It definitely seems that whatever you take out, more has got to come out 😂
@@NickyandLeigh wait till the tiny person arrives you think you have stuff now 😂 leaving the house becomes a military operation 🤣 thankfully mine are both late teens now, it goes so quickly though ❤️
Look after eachother 🙏
Pretty cool finding those coins! You'll are so open to going with the flow on your project! Don't sweat over the small stuff, cuz it's all small stuff! Nicky you are glowing! Thanks! Blessings from New Hampshire USA!!
The coins are awesome! Can’t believe we actually found some treasure 😂😂
Nicky and Leigh, you are a nice couple.
The house is going to be just fine for the baby.
The beginning of a renovation starts with the roof, if that is the case, the house is also safe from the elements.
So true! The roof seems to be okay, the roof didn’t have any leaks! 😃🙌
Great job you two! Your smiles are infectious! You'll have a cozy home for the little one. We love watching your adventures! You're the perfect team and couple. ♡♡♡♡♡
Hello Leigh and Nicky😊 At this step you are going to dismantle the entire house😂 I hope that the final result is to your liking although you still have a lot of work ahead of you, Cheer up and see you in the next one🤙😎🇪🇦
It seems more and more is coming out 😂😂 we were planning on doing little updates here and there but it’s turning into a massive project 😂
I SO love ALL your videos you two!!! Just love y'all and am SO excited for the baby!!!!!
Anyway, wish me well as I'm in the hospital and today makes my 11th day. Blah!
You are coming right along with the Reno and I'm proud of y'all!!! Sending big hugs your way!!!
🤗💙❤️🤗
Thanks so much!! 😃 we’re also very excited and happy to hear you like the videos 😃 We’re wishing you all the best, hopefully you feel better soon so you can leave the hospital 🌸🙌
So much work! Nicki how do you have so much energy while pregnant. Super woman! You two make a great team. The sisters are so helpful and amazing how they all look alike.
You need to buy a Shop Vac. Not expensive and it will suck up all the dirk between walls, ceiling, and floors. Worth buying! Also, buy some WD 40 and spray all the hinges and old screw heads and hard to turn old pipes.
One thing we learned in our house Reno days is to lay a tarp down and collect the debris on it, then drag the tarp out and down. Much quicker than doing each bit my hand.
Yea that sounds pretty good 😂
Yeah, great work you two !! Maybe you can move those pipes for the heater to behind the wall you just removed, baby safety. Check with gas company. Nikky is looking fab, thinking a girl is on the way lol ❤❤❤
We’ll be taking out the old radiators so hopefully we can also move the pipes 😃
Hey from South Africa. Love both your channels. Been watching you guys for
More than 3 years now. Love to you hear them speak dutch as on my mother’s side they all come from there. Most of the Afrikaans we speak was derived from Dutch. Even my names are still from there. Have a great day.
Great job you two!! Glad you have some help also. The house is really getting to the home stage quickly. Can hardly wait to see it progress. I love the teamwork, it is so inspiring. Y'all are going to have such a beautiful place to welcome your baby, thanks for letting us come along.
I enjoyd every minute of this video 👍🏼👌🏼
Nice to see you and Nicky doing some HARD LABOUR 👏🏼💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽👏🏼🙈🤣🤣
You 2 and the 2 sisters did't a AWESOME job 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💪🏽
It's getting there piece by piece , and It's difficult to plan the hours, when you're SMASHING walls 💪🏽👏🏼
By the time you must build it up, it's a little bit better to calculate , because there are no hidden troubles 🙈🤣🤣🤣
You are getting there 💯
Can't wait on the total result 👌🏼👌🏼🙏🏼💯
And let the video's also keep on coming 🙏🏼🙏🏼🤗
Have a GREAT day you all 🙏🏼🍀🙏🏼👍🏼🤗💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
See you soon 👍🏼👌🏼💪🏽💯🙏🏼
Thanks Wim! You’ll be in the next video 😃🙌 it’s gonna be a lot of work but worth it! 💪💪
Hey guys. About the roof: I live in a similar house in NL, just a bit older (1918). After one insulation mistake I did a lot of research and have recently insulated it in hopefully the right way. The thing with these houses is that they were built to breathe, which in short means you really need to find out what methods of insulation are fitting and which are not. When the roof is insulated and closed off without a breathing zone it will 'sweat' on the inside and watching the previous video it kind of looked like this happened in a few places. So check if it's wet and stays wet. Also check from above under the tiles in that place. Hope this info helps. Good luck with all the work.
i have seen plastic vents put in place on roof insulations
Thanks for your advice! The wood seems to be okay, there were no wet spots anywhere and the roof also looks good so we’re very lucky 😁
😍❤😍❤😍❤😍❤
Cheers to progress, you're rockin' at knockin' out this reno demo.
Sorry... I'll just let myself out 🙄...😅✌
I can't wait to see it finished! Bet you can't either!😂
Great job you are doing
Those are good beams. I would have saved some of that wood. You may need filler pieces later. Wood is expensive here. Baseboards especially. Definitely keep some of the better wood scraps.
Put your drone up to see what the roof outside is like
You kids are the best! Love this series!
We paint our houses vanilla so we can change colors anytime, and decorate with treasures from tag sales❤️
Loving these videos!
Congratulations again on expanding your love ❤️
Thank you so much!!😃😃
I was pulling with you when you were trying to get the wood of 😂😂❤️💙🇬🇧
Thank you! It was so hard to get it off 😂
Nikki,your beautiful.....
Love the videos. Try a spray foam insulation on all the outside wall it will tighten the place up.Good luck with the demo. Glad it's you and not me.
I love watching you two work together!!! Your house is becoming a home..demo'd with love & muscles! Soon, on to the rebuilding!!! Thanks for doing these videos....Best wishes from NW Wisconsin, USA 💚 💛 💚
Thanks for watching! Its a very exciting process 😃
Definitely against the clock now i think lol , Nicky pretty soon wont be able to do anything .. but yeah that wood at 4:35 is a worry, i think it's ok but quick test i guess would be to push a nail into it , if it goes in easy your in trouble but if it feels solid and wont go in well happy day's lol , i know not a very scientific test but all i could think of ..
Love watching your renovations 😊 xx
In the attic looks like the moisture in the house is causing the staining not a leaky roof
Thanks for another great video. Such a hard job but you will get it done. Donna Michigan
I think you need Wim to help yank those panels off the wall!?
😂😂 i'm on my way Colette 👍🏼💪🏽💯
Yay! Wim to the rescue!!!👋🏻😂
@@collettegumbrell8854 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏼💪🏽
Wim will help us in the next video! 😃😃
@@NickyandLeigh 🙈 i don't know if it's help 🤣🙈
It's more DEMOLISH 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Good job guys. Love to see you renovate.🤙
So you are sure ploughing through the work. Good for the pair of you. All this preparation work always seems to take more time than the new work and decoration. I think you will make it before baby is born.
We really hope so!! 😃😃
Hi Nicky and Leigh!
You guys are doing such a good job and having fun while doing it 😁 I remember the demo part went soooo fast by us as well.
About the wood,I don't think its rotten, looks like it's just dirty or dusty. If it was rotten, you would smell it (like a stinch in your nose kind of smell, like cat pee or something) and I didn't hear or see you guys make a "oooh that stinks" look 😂 So I think you're good 😂
Our house was also label G,best is to rip off all the walls (like you're doing) and then insulate and cover again. We had to do that with all our walls, there was no insulation. Also good if you want to hide the radiator pipes and electrical stuff. You will loose a few cm's of wall space, but you won't even notice it afterwards 😊
Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much for your tips! It didn’t stink at all and turns out everything was okay! So that’s a big relief 😃 there’s no insulation anywhere in this house either so we’ll have to add that in, and also we want to update the radiators so hopefully we can get rid of the old pipes as well 😃
@@NickyandLeighNo problem,we have gone through everything and anything with our reno,so I have a lot of tips 😂
Oh well that's awesome news then!!
I remember you said you wanted to do floor heating downstairs right? And upstairs radiators then? or do you guys have other options like infrared heating, electric etc?
You two are adorable!! You guys need a shop vacuum to suck up all the dust, loose nails and everything else, it keeps the dust clouds down
Yes we do need one of those! Would help a lot 😃
I am glad to see you two! I'm sure baby is growing quickly. Too bad you cant throw that stuff out the window. haha Nice find on the coins! Take care, and I cant wait to see what happens next!
The baby is growing bigger! ☺️ hopefully we can get everything done before the baby arrives 😃
Wood darkens over time if it was rotten it would be coming apart really easily and it would also be soft and damp, that wood looked old and dirty but still hard and dry.
Yes it was hard and dry! The wood seems to be okay 😃
So good! What a nice place.
❤❤❤
You shld have keep the wood from the wall to build stuff with later on.. I've done that before it's pretty cool
You need to get a wider pry bar..a crow bar works but wider is better
Glad to see things coming along!!
Best of luck to you!!! It’s going to be amazing when it’s finished!
Epic guys
When you open a can of worms and down the rabbitt hole you go. I simply went to install a toilet and end up replacing the whole floor and then added a light but needed new electric wire ran. Yup one small thing leads to more to do
So Leigh, when are we going to see a wedding band on you? 🌲
Smart a non answer
Go buy a moisture meter. Inexpensive and it will tell you if water is coming through anywhere in that roof.
Hope the house wasn't to expensive. There will be a lot to do and a lot to buy 🤞
Yes it’s going to be a very big project but it’ll all be worth it 😃😃
To build a family-home is worth any Euro. Love to follow your channels and wish you both all the best 😊🤗
Wow 🤩 you two are so wonderful!
thank you for. sharing with us 🎉
🦋
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching! 😃😃
Trebuchet's Law of Projects: The first 90% of the project takes 90% of the time and budget. The last 10% of the project takes the other 90%. Unfortunately, you guys are only about 10% in! But keep it up, you are doing awsome!
That space under the roof you exposed in the baby's room looks perfect for some built-in cupboards and drawers. There is no such thing as sufficient storage space!
Sounds like we have a long project ahead of us 😂 yes we’re thinking about adding storage under the slopes walls 😃
Looking great! Im so glad you have help too! ❤ Finding the coins was awesome! When you say may there be more to come, yes i hope so! Putting the affirmation out there! I hope 3 (baby included) are doing great. The way you do your videos makes me feel like i am right there with you. 🇨🇦
Thanks so much Monica! We’ll definitely keep the videos coming because it’s also a lot of fun for us to watch it back 😂 all three of us are doing great! Thanks for asking 😃 Hopefully you’re doing great too!
@@NickyandLeighI'm glad you all are doing great! ❤ I am to, thanks!
Just found your channel love the enthusiasm you both have! Love the magnet fishing also watched all up to date on house renovations, I was worried for Nicky doing the work and being pregnant good news by the way. Keep up the good work. Have great week 😊
Thanks so much Sandy, and welcome aboard! 😃
Good job you two!
Your all doing a Grand Job.
Nicky is positively glowing
Finding a treasure check the dates on the coins could be some collector coin.❤
Yes will do! Would be good if there’s some valuable ones in there 😃
You’re all doing such a wonderful job ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! We’re doing our best 😁
I’m wondering if the dark stains are from mold? Perhaps you should do a test for mold before Nicky continues to work up there?
