We are Nicky and Leigh and we just bought our first house. Join us as we start a new adventure of transforming our 1930s house into a cozy home. We're amateur home renovators on a budget, with no technical knowledge, but we're hoping we can pull off this renovation.
Our love story brought Leigh from Australia to the Netherlands, and we've been treasure hunting together all around the world on our other TH-cam channel @BondiTreasureHunter. Now, with a baby on the way the clock is ticking! Our goal is to make our house baby-ready in just five months.

Nicky is the voice of calm and reason. It is a big job and can get Leigh a little stressed but with the help of friends he can see the end product. Keep on keeping on.

In episode 9 of our renovation series we’re taking down the rest of the bedrooms. Ed and Katelyn from @detect-ed are still here to help us and we couldn’t thank them enough, what a difference these guys have made!
With most of the walls and ceilings removed, we’re really starting to see the potential of this house and we couldn’t be happier! 😄
The two bedrooms at the first floor look so much better now all that’s left are the walls, but we’re still not sure if we should take down the last remaining wall in between the main bedroom and the baby’s room. Let us know what you would do in the comments! 😃
5:14 Finally someone thought of the fastest way to get rubbish out of the house! Can't believe you carried so much down the stairs instead of just putting a container below the windows.
It’s a bit risky as there’s 3 windows down there but we managed to not break any
😂 we’re not using a container as they’re quite expensive and the scrapyard is pretty close and free 😃

Hi, Leigh and Nicky. Having an extra couple of people to help makes such a difference in completing demo work.
I was a little concerned, when you started dropping those boards out of the window, that you might damage the bikes. Then I laughed bc I remembered you can always 'fish' replacements from the canals. All-in-all, you guys together with Ed & Katelyn, put in a massive effort. Thanks for sharing. Stay healthy and safe 👍
Hey mate, it’s been great having so many people help us, it’s really made a huge difference! And there’s definitely enough bikes in the canal if we ever need a replacement 😂

The work being done is outstanding, my only problem is not enough videos. LOL The 3D rendering looked great I think you will have a great family (3 kids at least) home when the job is complete. Leigh you need to worry less, just think about 1 job at a time if you think about the whole house it will be overwhelming, and remember it always looks bad during the job, it will all be worth it in the end. 👍👍👍👍👍

Since you liked the ceiling and the boards came down in one piece why not reuse them after you insulate as it will save some money.
We won’t be reusing it because it’s softboard and it’s actually not allowed to use anymore as it’s a fire hazard. We will replace it with gyproc 😃

Making excellent progress. Those ceiling panels were quite nice. It's a shame they can't be repurposed. Ed and Katelyn's CAD drawing was great. It helps to visualise the finished room. Good job, peoples. 🤩

Hi guys I've been following from the beginning great job so far.I know it's a lot of work but do it right the first time will safe you alot in the future.
We weren’t planning on doing this much, we started with taking off the wallpaper and ended up taking out all the walls and ceilings 😂 but you’re right, it’s better to do everything right from the start or we might have to do it again at a later point 😃
Me and my wife have renovated 3 apartments and two houses and we have always consulted carpenters, electricians etc at an early stage of the renovations. Then you know what you have to take in consideration when you start ripping things down. In your case, you need to consult someone that knows how to insulate houses from the 60's. It isn't just as easy as just buying insulation material and stick it in between wooden beams. You have the danger of sealing it too much and getting mold/mould/mildew behind the walls, and then you have to rip everything down again, to get rid of it.
It is an awesome house and it will look fantastic when you are done!

Hi Leigh and Nicky congratulations on the baby! I Know you will be great parents! Here in the USA you don't want to insulate the inner walls you should leave them hollow because the electric and plumbing will be harder to work with if it's insulated. Only insulate the outer walls and ceiling. But check with a professional in your area. It's what we do in the US even in the coldest places. You're doing a great job! Keep up the good work!

The boards on the ceiling and walls, that could be something called shiplap. Most of it is most likely tongue and groove. It's a BIG thing the last 5 years or so. Some people put those up, then paint them. I am planning to do that on one wall in my bedroom. They are very expensive. Wood like that can be saved and used for other projects. Good stuff! Looks like pine.
Can't believe, after all the years this house has stood, and all the renovations and additions....no one ever used insulation in any outside walls or ceilings? Wow.

Yeah we would have liked to have keep it all but we needed to get the insulation put in. Bit of a shame
Looking awesome so far!! In the US we have an option of blowing insulation into spaces and walls. Not sure if you have the same thing there but it’s worth watching a video. Good luck 🤙

I have to say it because it's killing me. Love you guys but...all of that lumber should be held on to. I did a total remodel of my home and when I did the demo I reused most of it and saved thousands of dollars. You have a beautiful home and best wishes.
Thanks very much 😁 it would’ve been nice to reuse the wood but everything was so old it’s just falling apart and it’s all different sizes as well. We’re bringing it to the scrapyard where it will be recycled anyway 😃

@@NickyandLeigh You can do it. My husband and I use to do what your doing all the time. One time we lived in a tent for 6 weeks then an old rv for a year as we built a house in the mtn's. It's a lot of hard work. But you will love your home even more.Good luck and you better get cracking! Nicky is about ready to pop. 😂

The house is looking amazing so far. I wonder how far it is now as this video prob was a bit ago. It's great you set out layouts/designs as you take down stuff, then you can plot and plan. I think the previous owners were using a layering technique of different materials on the ceiling for insulation
OMG, I think that a total demolition with a prefab would have been faster and cheaper. Taking on such a project right before a baby is super ambitious. If anyone can do it though, it's you guys with the help of family and friends. I love seeing what you're doing!

You only have to insulate the outside walls.
I own a house that is old. I’m remodeling it. As well the inside and outside. Roof n porch. As well and I’m on the verge of owning another house. So more work to be done.

My guess with the ceiling it that there is no insulation up there so they put up that extra ceiling to keep the draft out. There was a method to their madness.
They definitely did their best to block the draft 😂

Nicki, you better be careful with that wood and nails and carpet. Our baby is coming soon. It just makes me nervous seeing you haul stuff, but as a mother myself, I know that women are strong. My son is 38 years old now and I have 5 grandchildren. Even though we haven’t met, I feel a connection to you and Leigh.

Great progress so far. How about an accordion door/wall between main bedroom and baby room. A permanent wall could be put up later for more separation as baby grows. Happy Holidays to all.
