    I was on the phone twice with Lindy deciding whether to do the Unbuckers or High gains for my coiltapping '79 347. While the Unbucker has a stronger single coil, Lindy himself said the High Output actually gives the better tapped coil sound because it uses a 43 gauge wire while the Unbuckers use 42 (says Lindy). High Output does not necessarily mean high gain and all of his humbuckers can be very clean/clear and give lots of room to push signal with amp/pedals. Great playing, thank for the vid!

    Thank you Randy. I could listen to this all day without getting bored. Great approach. It never came into my mind mixing minor and major. Thank you again.

    If you notice ALL three pickups have the screw coil facing the neck. This is the hotter of the two coils and that is what is used in single coil mode.
    Playing "mostly" over dm chord all thru but I do move it major at some some points as the bass groove is a simple "D" root. I'm mostly using Dorian mode as well as the major......reverting to simple pentatonic occasionally.

    The standard LF are wound with 42 gauge. These are would with 43 gauge which makes them stronger in output and mids compared to stock LF's. What's great about these is they split tp single so well. Stocks do not. They are thin and weak. You can also wire these for parallel humbucking which is also a great brighter sounding humbucker. I am not into dark, middy, doggy sounding humbuckers. I like a bit of edge to the tone so that they have bite. These do the trick!

    Wow...I had to stop the vid to tell you this is good stuff. TY for a great demo and playing. That back pick up is crunchy ;) Love the tone cap, 1 meg, 500k setup (I'm installing that on my current build and just wanted an idea of the value mix) Sound is amazing ( Thos Lindsey's probably don't have much to do with the sound right?) JK. Amazing TY.

    That rythm sound on the single setting is funkkkkkkaaaayyy. I wonder if his p92 sounds like that? How would the rear compare to the pure paf. Thanks!

  • @RocketeerStudio
    @RocketeerStudio  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are correct.....and as I said on the video these Unbuckers are wound with 43ga wire which throws them up to a higher output pickup but not super over wound. Actually.....if you look at it from a single coil use, these pickups, the front and middle, have 6k winds and the bridge is a 6.25k wind. Nice and balanced in single coil mode which sounds incredible in my book. Remember, not all humbuckers split well. This makes these pickups AND this guitar very versatile live and in the studio.

Thanks for taking my offer into consideration. ...We'll talk about the amp after we've been friends a little longer. Smiles. ............Seriously, I could listen to your test drive all day long. So, I have been waiting for more info on you Amp setup! What is the word? Also, i would to hear some more in the single coil mode with more distortion...
    I have the installed the same pickups in my 70's Japanese Aria LP. I love the tone, but with my Amp they sound a bit dark. I am still working on the right tone combo. I love this demo, is there any way to get you to post a tab for this?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Love that tone!!! Does the amp have much to contribute or do you think it is mostly the pickups? I have a custom shop paul with burstbuckers, now tempted to change to what you have! I have a strat with lace sensors, but it looked like you get more sustain from the paul set up?

  • @RocketeerStudio

    There was just a bit of compression on the actual ProTools recording. Other than that it's the three different channels of my tube stereo amp (with some verb and delay added).

  • @noord726
    @noord726 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi very very nice sound and playing , did you used a compressor and a booster ?, or is it the amp hi-gain channel only on the recording, thanks for the upload, and again nice playing.and off course some reverb and delay, thanks succes with the band.
    greets Amsterdam Holland.

    really enjoyed this, thanks, great understated playing and that LP just sings :)
    I'm mostly a strat player, two Japanese Squiers, a Korean Squier Pro Tone (which is probably the pick of the bunch) and a MIM Fender 70's reissue. Decided to fit new pickups to all of these (except the Pro Tone which I want to leave stock) this year and decided on Lindy Fralin on the three strats plus my MIM Fender Tele. Was planning on selling my Epiphone Les Paul, one of the better ones from around 2002 before the quality took a dip, but have reconsidered this and going to give it a new lease of life with a pair of Lindy Fralins. Was going to fit Pure PAFs but one of the strats is just a single humbucker at bridge only, just a volume knob so will probably instead fit a Pure Paf to that and go for two P90's on the Les Paul. Loving the Lindy Fralin stuff on here, he really spoils us for choice

  • @RocketeerStudio
    @RocketeerStudio  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    A standard p92 (in my opinion) has a more output, fatter mids, along with the chimey top end. If you have Lindy underwind a P92 I think it would approach this split 43ga. Unbucker but then you would only have that one sound. With the unbucker you can get that chimey single coil with a tap and also have that thicker humbucker sound to go to when you need it. The bridge PU is kinda a like a pure PAF with hotter output and slightly thicker mids. Not overly hot in my opinion.

  • @BigEdWo
    @BigEdWo 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow. insane. what a great great tone!
    i will definitely get me one of those same unbuckers.
    now - unfortunately that leads to questions.
    1st
    which coil of the neck PU is the one working in sc mode? the one closest
    to the neck?
    same question for the bridge PU. the coil next to the bridge?
    2nd
    it's just d min pent what you played here, right? sounds awesome.
    Thanks!

  • @cohodependent
    @cohodependent 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for posting this. I have bought the same pickups for my LP. I was a bit worried that the 12.5 High Outputs might be a bit too much, but with the Unbucker at the neck I think it will be fine. Your set up sounds great and I am now looking forward to getting my pups installed.
    Do you think that the 1mg tone pots make much of a difference over the 500k pots?

    Really nice sounding LP. Surprising good single coil sound for the LP neck scale. Do I understand it correctly that you are using a 500k vol pot in humbucking and single coil mode?

  • @xxmanx1
    @xxmanx1 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    So..the standard LF unbuckers come in a set of 8k (neck) and 9k Bridge. Yours are NOT wound like that..correct? Yours a much hotter..right? So If i order from LF, I should ask for the 12.5k neck. Can you say how yours compare to stock as far as fundamental tone?

  • @lrblouie
    @lrblouie 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi - thank you so much for sharing - will definitely be looking for info on your amp. For a two pickup LP do you recommend a specific wiring scheme (I already have push/pulls in both volumes which split the stock Classic 57's)? Your bridge p/u is positioned in the same direction as you neck (and middle) - does it impact the sound? You helped me make a decision to order this configuration from Lindy (although I will only get two pickups). Thank you.

    A 12.5k 43ga. Lindy High Output has enough the right amount of extra to push your amp for great leads + it splits to a great sounding single coil. There is a big difference between 250k up to 500k. However there is little difference from 500k up to 1meg. What makes a BIG difference is your cable coupled with the input impedance your guitar sees at your first effect..or amp. Use a MI AUDIO Boost & Buff as the 1st thing you plug into and you will feel like a blanket was lifted from over your amp.

    If you are using these pickups in series humbucking and you think they are dark put some push pull pots to be able to make them single coil OR parallel humbucking when you need the brighter sound and then switch to series humbucking when you need the power.
    Sorry ..... no tabs available......
