If you can get any of the house’s floor plans/schematics before you close/occupy in January, it will give you a head start on planning plumbing, electrical, and engineering. Don’t know how it works in Scotland, but in the states a lot of the documents are held in the towns record hall.

This reminded me of a major misunderstanding/mistake my first husband and I made when remodeling an old house. We’re both tall so we wanted the kitchen counters to be a bit higher than normal. We told the contractor but neither of the parties involved realized the new floor covering needed a new subfloor. This was so long ago the details are fuzzy. Sadly the countertops ended up being shorter than normal because of the built up floor. Work with professionals!

Having just gone through some renovations last year I will say this… it’s definitely very stressful and sometimes completely maddening, but absolutely worth it, so take it one day at a time and remind yourselves you love each other 😂
I am super excited for you both. So glad you're finally able to get some dogs. Just a tip select a breed that will be able to keep up with your lifestyle. I love our Parson Russell terrier, she is a snuggle bunny, but also energetic for those long walks and exploring, super smart she takes well to learning things. She learned so fast. She really completes us. I could see in your vlogs with the dogs you both will be great with them.
Those boards while being likely the right size might give you guys some issues as beginners. Older boards tend to be quite stiff making them hard to turn and not forgiving. A newer board that has a soft flex will make a massive difference when just starting out. I know it’s expensive to get started and those boards will work. Just don’t get discouraged on the sport if you’re having a really hard time on them. I worked in a shop for a few years and would be happy to share some advice if you’d like. when the time comes that you want to upgrade.
Nah you'll be hooked, snowboarding grabs you and doesn't let go no matter how good or bad you are. I've never surfed but I imagine it's that same magic feeling as catching a good wave.
Louie-chewie from Australia says you need a dog stat! You won’t believe how much love and joy your own dog will bring you. My mum didn’t think she’d get another dog after she suddenly lost her Great Dane Willow to heart failure in May. After 3 weeks she wondered why she was punishing herself when every time she went out she’d see people enjoying their doggos. Once she decided her heart needed another love in her life, I fell into her lap 24 hours later and now I’m living my best life every day, I’m no longer in a run day and night and I get to spend every day outdoors exploring with my mum. You will thank yourselves for giving 2 new dogs a better life like my mum did 💗

But I will tell you that my husband and I got a dog right after we got a home before it was finished and we wished we would have waited until we were done with the home and more settled because the dog needed a lot of attention when you first get them they seem to be very needy for attention like that.

Get a proper building inspector to look at things like the foundation and plumbing. Your friend had it right when he said make sure you know what needs to be done and the proper order of things. Review laws on water/sewerage/electric. Do you have cell service? Start with basics. Does the property flood etc as now is the time to think about adding drainage. The house itself can be done a room at a time after roof and core structure is secure. Make sure to include massive closet/cabinet/pantry space in every room!!

I live in a 60 yr old cedar Panabode log wood home in Canada .... have done a bunch of renovations to this property and before that, to a 150 yr old farmhouse. Renovations take twice as long as you plan and cost twice as much as you've planned (even doing the work yourself). Find a location where you don't have to live in the construction zone all the time. You will learn an amazing amount of new skills, learn how to work with power tools and other tools you never thought you would have to. Your local hardware store will be like a second home, heck people start thinking that you work there because you are there so much! It's all worth it in the end. Like others have said..... Nick's advice is golden!
Awesome I grew up in Aviemore and swam in loch morlich as a kid! Canoe down the Spey and Last time I was home went stand up paddling on loch insch with my girls!

I just adopted a lovely jackweenie after splitting from my long term partner and loosing daily access to my beautiful collie boy. I miss him so much and had so much love to give and a lovely home to a dog that needs it. She's a little anxious, crazy, confusing, loving and loyal bundle of fluff and i have zero regrets, only so much extra love

You won’t believe how much love and joy your own dog will bring you.
My mum didn’t think she’d get another dog after she suddenly lost her Great Dane Willow to heart failure in May.
After 3 weeks she wondered why she was punishing herself when every time she went out she’d see people enjoying their doggos.
Once she decided her heart needed another love in her life, I fell into her lap 24 hours later and now I’m living my best life every day, I’m no longer in a run day and night and I get to spend every day outdoors exploring with my mum.
You will thank yourselves for giving 2 new dogs a better life like my mum did 💗

I'm telling you---- you two make me laugh so hard that I can't hardly breathe! 😂 I live alone and I think my neighbors can hear me laughing because I'm laughing so hard.... Love you guys and I'm so happy for you getting your new home. But I will tell you that my husband and I got a dog right after we got a home before it was finished and we wished we would have waited until we were done with the home and more settled because the dog needed a lot of attention when you first get them they seem to be very needy for attention like that.

Get a proper building inspector to look at things like the foundation and plumbing. Your friend had it right when he said make sure you know what needs to be done and the proper order of things. Review laws on water/sewerage/electric. Do you have cell service? Start with basics. Does the property flood etc as now is the time to think about adding drainage. The house itself can be done a room at a time after roof and core structure is secure. Make sure to include massive closet/cabinet/pantry space in every room!!

I live in a 60 yr old cedar Panabode log wood home in Canada .... have done a bunch of renovations to this property and before that, to a 150 yr old farmhouse. Renovations take twice as long as you plan and cost twice as much as you've planned (even doing the work yourself). Find a location where you don't have to live in the construction zone all the time. You will learn an amazing amount of new skills, learn how to work with power tools and other tools you never thought you would have to. Your local hardware store will be like a second home, heck people start thinking that you work there because you are there so much! It's all worth it in the end. Like others have said..... Nick's advice is golden!
