What other disaster movies should we check out? If you missed them check out:
DAY AFTER TOMORROW: th-cam.com/video/RBG45mczfk0/w-d-xo.html
DEEP IMPACT/ARMAGEDDON: th-cam.com/video/B6X1fxim4rw/w-d-xo.html
TOWERING INFERNO: th-cam.com/video/UWC0kHqTses/w-d-xo.html
POSEIDON ADVENTURE: th-cam.com/video/4ov7OrkrTko/w-d-xo.html
How about deepwater horizon and the impossible 👍
Greenland, Twister, and Only the Brave
Meteor feat Sean Connery from 1979 is pretty fun and could be seen as the original to both ‘Deep Impact’ and ‘Armageddon’. Plus any of the original disaster movies from the 70’s, The towering inferno, The Poseidon Adventure, Earthquake are fun.
*WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE (1951)* - A great old classic sci-fi disaster movie
Ed Wood (1994) is a sort of compilation of disaster films. And it's really excellent.
Disaster movies are such a guilty pleasure genre.
"The Core" is my guilty pleasure.
Mine too, since either Earthquake or When Worlds Collide
I just dont feel guilty liking them.
@@warpath1911 Me too. "The Core" had so many more likeable characters, also. The characters in this movie are... Let's just say I don't watch this flick for the acting.
@@jacob4920Is it The Core where they replaced one of the flying birds with a fish? For some reason that's what stuck in my mind... That and Unobtainium.
The Special Effects of this film was off the charts when this was released in 2009!
Yeah this may be the most expensive disaster movie ever made. 200 million USD budget which on itself was bonkers for 2009. Avatar had slightly higher budget, I never expected they'll pour that much money for a disaster movie. They were all capitalizing on the whole "hype" about the Mayan calendar and predictions for the end of the world in 2012. A lot of people actually believed it back then or were scared.
I never went to see that movie because I was mad they were capitalizing on people's fear and only fueling it more. I though it would be this super serious and dramatic movie enhancing that fear, but after I finally saw it, it seems more like they were poking fun at the whole thing with just how ridiculous and over the top the movie is to the point it's basically trolling.
@@toreadoressI mean, you can't really blame people for being in fear 😂... There was that huge gaping sinkhole in the middle of a city in Guatemala in 2010, then it was followed by a massive earthquake and tsunami in Japan in 2011... seems like the Earth was trolling us 😂
@@dayangmarikit6860 I never said anything about blaming people for being afraid, if anything I said the reason I didn't watch the movie when came out was be because I didn't like the idea of spreading even more irrational fear amoung people who already believed it, because it capitalises of their fear. I was blaming the media fueling it even more and twisting it, because fear sells. The whole thing was absolutely ridiculous and had no grounds in reality. There was also a prediction a lot of people believed that the world would end in the year 2000, yet that also never happened. There were multiple "predictions" of the world ending in the 20th century, but they never happened too.
There were always big natural disasters in the past and sadly always will be in the future, there were big disasters in the 2000s, 90s, 80s and pretty much every decade before that. But because the world was supposed to end in 2012, anything that happened close to that year was blamed on the world ending event so somehow it must be true, while completely ignoring everything that has happened before that, but that's not convenient and this was what the media was feeding people and a lot were believing it.
@@toreadoress It was a figure of speech... not meant to be taken literally.
“The Impossible” is a true story about a tsunami.
Tom Holland (Spiderman) gave an amazing performance as a child survivor.
Yes. This movie is an excellent suggestion after 2012
@@x_trio_3_po333 Don't forget his movie parents Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts.
And is a great realistic disaster movie.
@@Redplant99 What do you mean "realistic"?
IT HAPPENED!
We had all agreed to show these to our children/grandchildren in the future and convince them we lived through this
😂
Yes this movie has some issues, it’s ridiculous at times and not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s still a fun disaster movie. It’s just pure chaos and destruction, you can’t ask for anything better.
Great "popcorn movie". Turn off your brain and enjoy 😁
This movie is so goofy and over the top and fun, but I always cringe at the whole closing the gate scene. There is no way there would not be some override or manual control for starting the engines, interlocks exist but there is usually a way around them if only temporary, but film makers generally have next to zero understanding of mechanical parts.
Most disaster movies are a hit ridiculous at times as far as how the main cast survive things, but that’s why we suspend our disbelief and let one go once in a while.
Yes this movie has some issues, it’s ridiculous at times and not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s still a fun disaster movie. It’s just pure chaos and destruction, you can’t ask for anything better.
I've always liked the Irwin Allen disaster type movies. I saw this as just a more modern version.
Like someone else said, turn off your brain and watch the pretty colors.
Jen: "I love destruction movies....*Not in real life!!" 😂 Thank you for the disclaimer, Jen! Couldn't agree more! 😉 Great reaction!!
She doesn't love disaster movies in real life??? lol
We all know what she meant, but the way she worded it was a little...
"Cutting it so close" is THE description of this movie. Even more than other disaster movies.
No kidding. No other movie is in the same league as this one for repeated close calls for the same family. It borders on repetitious.
@@alexspindler1 More like getting well past the border of ridiculousness.
Almost as silly as the dog dodging the explosion in Independence Day
I wish more people reacted to this movie. It's ridiculous but fun
I love that you translated the French into English without hesitation. Only a Canadian TH-camr could do that 😀. This is such a great, fun film, glad you have done this one
Was it french? I thought it was Chinese 😂
Lol subtitles
There are subtitles in the movie lol
Or…a TH-camr that also understands French, lol jk
I'm a sucker for apocalyptic movies, such a guilty pleasure
Same. I hope she sees Dante's Peak soon. :)
FINALLY. SOMEONE REACTS TO 2012!!!!!! IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR YEARS!!!!! YOUR THE BEST WOMAN! KEEP GOING!!!!
Scenes I was in:
1. 2010 summit riots (you didn't show).
2. 8:23 Las Vegas Airport...
I died.
3. 10:20 I was at the Vatican...
I died.
4. The final scene on the ark...
I lived.
RIP I'm sorry you died.
Also happy you lived.
"I died, I died, I live again!"
@@Brasc "Witness!!!"
I didn't think they used extras for more than one scene.
@@tremorsfan There are different types of extra roles. If someone is in the background and unrecognizable there's no reason not to use them for multiple scenes. You just put a few dozen people on a daily rate and have them hanging around the set. It would cost more in overhead (paperwork, etc.) if you used a different person for everything.
As a former jazz musician just wanted to say I enjoy your reactions and your love of music!
John Cusack is also in another great 4 number movie, 1408. Possibly my favorite thriller.
One of the best horror movies for a first time reaction. Especially because of the camera angles & pacing
I'm still in shock from learning that he voiced Dimitri in Don Bluth's Anastasia
The Magnetic Pole Reversal Event is a naturally reoccurring cycle that takes place every 12,000 to 13,000 years and we are now overdue for one in our lifetime.
Not overdue, it's currently happening and speeding up
@@jesusramirezromo2037 Actually it is overdue and it will happen within our lifetime, it's only a matter of when it happens.
John Cusack is a good actor. Movies you ought to watch with him in are:
* BETTER OFF DEAD (an old 80s comedy high-school movie)
* CONAIR (action film with Nicholas Cage)
* SERENDIPITY (romantic comedy starring Kate Beckinsale)
* IDENTITY (starring Amanda Peet just like 2012 film, except this is a psychological, suspense, and even frightening film)
Enjoy! 👍 -OG
" Thin Red Line ", " Grosse Point Blank ".
John Cusack is the guy you get when Nicholas Cage is unavailable
😂😂
I would recommend "Don't Look UP" for more shenanigans. I love this movie for how bad the Earth wants to kill John Cusack and just misses.
@artboymoy ,,, Imdb does not list john Cusack as being in that film ? .
@@brianjones7907 I think they meant this movie, not the one they mentioned.
"You couldn't pay me to go 11,000 feet underground"
Time to watch The Core :)
Or Journey to the Centre of the Earth.
My cousin showed me this movie when I was like 5. Disaster movies have been my guilty pleasure ever since. I don't care if it's a good or bad movie so long as the special effects look freaking awesome.
Fun fact the John Cusack the actor who played Jackson also voiced Dimitri in Don Bluth's Anastasia.
Dr. Phlox is in this film! ..... oh, you probably don't know who that is. He's in a prequel series to the original Star Trek series called Star Trek: Enterprise. It went 4 seasons. His character is Dr. Phlox. -OG
Didn't realize that John Billingsley was in this movie until I heard his voice, that's pretty cool to see in retrospect. Also weird to think that when Enterprise ended in 2005 he was the same age I am now (45), he always seemed a bit older to me even then.
@CanuckGod Isn't that funny how that works. I was thinking the same similar thing when I started rewatching ST: The Next Generation and realized I'm older than all these guys except maybe Picard. It's hard to navigate his age on looks as he's always been bald and gray. Lol. -OG
3:59 for more John Cusack, I recommend 'Con Air' (1997) and '1408' (2007), you may also get a kick out of 'Grosse Point Blank' (1997)
Hot Tub Time Machine
Was he in pushing tin? About air traffic controllers!
Anyone know?
Yes he was
@@amydhm thank you,love that movie✈️
This reminds me. There's a Nick Cage movie called, "Knowing" that's really good you should watch!
Ahhh, that movie used to terrify me as a child! Now I adore it and the nostalgia it brings!
I agree with the special effects point. Post 90's went a little crazy with CGI which makes it easy to go over the top with the destruction scenes, I feel like its too much. Dante's Peak (1997) has some pretty good practical effects. 🙂👍
A lot of movies had their "look what we can do" scenes. Then came the Marvel Universe.
I always enjoyed Dante's Peak
I recomend "The core" if u havnt seen it yet
Yes, thats a very underrated disaster movie.
Jen, you know you can’t have a disaster movie without a “ MY GOD” quote.
"Greenland" is probably one of the best disaster movies out there. Definitely check that one out.
The cancelled 2012 series says that the people in the Vegas airport, the little girl, the two men on the ship and the people on the mountain survived.
What would they even make a series on? Just the post-destruction?
Britney Spears got into the whole 2012 end of days craze with her 2011 pop song, "Til the World Ends". Her music video even cites 2012 in it.
spoiler alert: 2012 was not the end of days
This movie is the flagship of the disaster-pron genre. It’s good for what it is, a popcorn movie that doesn’t require any kind of thought.
1 minute in and Jen got what she wanted 😂
I used to be obsessed with this movie when I was 14 years old. This came out when I was an angsty teenager who thought the world was going to end in 2012 😂
Great reaction Jen like always, I like this movie, and there are some fun-facts about it. The "Russian plane" was a Antonov An-225 Mriya. Although they marked this plane as an Antonov 500, there's no such plane. Also, the plane is from Ukraine, not Russia. The An-225 was destroyed in the Battle of Antonov Airport during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. John Cusack ad-libbed the line "That guy's an actor, he's reading a script!", when talking about the California Governor (who appears to be a caricature of Arnold Schwarzenegger), the original line in the screenplay was "The Governor's a Meathead, how could he know anything? You gotta trust me over some politician. come on". Some felt the line would be a bit too hard on Arnold Schwarzenegger. Charlie Frost's animation about the end of the world heavily references the animated Internet meme, "The End of ze World", which centers around the idea that humanity will kill itself as a whole before any natural disaster would ever have the time to destroy it. In the movie, New York City was flooded in summer 2012. In real life, parts of New York City flooded due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy in October 2012. The character of Charlie Frost seems loosely based on volcanologists David Johnston and Harry Glicken. Johnston was killed in the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980. He was able to broadcast, "Vancouver! Vancouver! This is it!" as a warning before he died. Glicken was killed by a pyroclastic flow on Mount Unzen in Japan in 1991. He was so eccentric and disorganized that the U.S. Geological Survey only offered him temporary positions, despite his incredibly thorough research on Mount St. Helens. Keep up the good work.
It was a beautiful plane. "Lift your big ass for Sasha". It will surely be missed.
Some quick facts for you all. Roland Emmerich told MTV the cover-up name for this film was "Farewell Atlantis", which is the title of lead character Jackson Curtis' book. The character Jackson Curtis is the real name of 50 Cent (Curtis Jackson) backwards. Executive producer, co-writer, and director Roland Emmerich is a big fan of rapper 50 Cent, and wanted to name his lead character after him.Gerard Butler was first considered for the role of Jackson Curtis. He turned it down because of scheduling conflicts.
While it's true that Roland Emmerich disclosed the cover-up name "Farewell Atlantis" for the movie "2012" in an interview with MTV, the information about the character Jackson Curtis being named after rapper 50 Cent (Curtis Jackson) and Gerard Butler being considered for the role is inaccurate. "2012" features John Cusack as Jackson Curtis, not 50 Cent, and there is no known connection between the character's name and the rapper. Additionally, there's no evidence suggesting that Gerard Butler was considered for the role of Jackson Curtis.
Here's a breakdown of the accurate information:
Character portrayal: John Cusack played the character of Jackson Curtis in the movie, not rapper 50 Cent (Curtis Jackson). There's no connection between the character's name and the rapper.
Casting information: While the casting process details aren't entirely public knowledge, there's no evidence to suggest Gerard Butler was ever considered for the role of Jackson Curtis.
14:49 I’ve watched this movie sooooo many times and I always thought the little girl says “MY HOUSE!” but she DOES say “MY HAT” haha
Because of this movie, i got to travel around the world. I entered a 2012-facebookcontest and won first prize, and got to visit 12 countries in 21 days. So I reeaaally love this movie!
When my daughter was probably 3 years old she was really sick and I’d stay up with her at night and one night this movie was on so I watched it with her laying on my chest. Ever since then she’s watched this movie like once a day. It’s her favorite for some reason. lol. Whatever floats her boat. lol.
The Core (2003) is a fun watch and Godzilla (1998) is a good watch too.
-Sage
You can't take this one too seriously, you basically, rather than suspending your disbelief, you throw it out the window, jump on the ride, and have FUN!
Thank you so much for reacting to this; i had a ball watching it with you!
Future diszster movie reactions; San Andreas, and Don't Look Up.
San Andreas is a GREAT earthquake movie, and
Don't Look Up is disaster movie satire at its best!
Fun coincidence: last piece of land was the one where all humanity originated
John Cusack is an underrated actor who has been in some quirky good movies. Try “Say Anything”, “high fidelity”, Grosse Point Blank”, “Better Off Dead”. Some people might recommend the “The Sure Thing” I like it, but it’s very 1980s
"Is there time for a romance in this?"
**me, glancing at the 2h 38m runtime**
"Engine, start!" Best scene of the movie. 😀
How about a weather-disaster spy film with Sean Connery playing a megalomaniacal villain? The Avengers (1998), with Uma Thurman, Ralph Fiennes, and Eddie Izzard
My favorite quote from this movie "come, on baby lift your big ass for Sasha" Also when Adrian was complaining about the size of the rooms. It's not about that. It about the resources available for the people on the arcs.
Aaah yes, the movie that conned the whole world into beliving that the mayan calender was ending 2012, when in reality, it just entered its 13th "baktun" (each one of those spanning 394 years) in the age of mankind. The age that came before us/that ENDED 5k years ago was told to have had just 13 baktun, not ours. Going by that calender-ending logic, we are good for literaly dozens of billions of years to come.... 😂
Moreover, the whole "calendar ends" business is based on one single artefact that is incomplete. There are lots of other calendars from the same era that show different information. It would be like if a future archaeologist found a calendar with November and December torn out and thought that meant that we believed the world would end on Halloween.
Winner of 4 Oscars in 1974: EARTHQUAKE with Charles Heston.
French translator Jen is one of Jen's top 5 forms
Another Great Roland Emmerich Disaster Picture! I think he reach his peak with this one. I do think Jen Murray will enjoy and have a good time with this one! Thanks and Have Fun! Oh Note: The Entire Yellowstone Park is a caldera volcano!
Time to head north over the border for movie night at Jen's place. I'll bring the pizza; Jen brings the fun.
Giant waves are one of your fears? One of mine is being crushed in machinery. This movie covered all the bases.
That was a real fear in 2011...we knew the mayan calendar was about to be over
The 2012 poster shows lava coming out of the surface cracks.
you gonna love this "destruction derby".
15:12, well, if we cannot take my donuts, I dont want to be a survivor!
I'm gonna tell my Kids i survived this 😂
The biggest thing I remember happening on December 21 2012 was that it rained.
I was having cocktails and watching this movie.
If Jackson Curtis became a rapper, will his rap name be *Cent 50*
His debut album ~ *Die Trying or Get Rich*
His shelved album ~ *Dollar of the Power*
I see what you did there 🤣
21:05 I said the exact same thing! JUST GRAB THE STACK!
the extended version has a really really feel good alternate end scene! i would suggest you look it up just to see.. i wish it was in the final film
There is no way that little plane would have out ran that piroclastic flow but I love the yellow stone volcano eruption scene.
i am here to feed your supervillain side, with not only a disaster movie, but a heist movie too. "Hard Rain" with Christian Slater, and Morgan Freeman. i'm sure you'll love it.
5:48 that scientist plays Dr flox on star trek enterprise. he's great!
I'm glad that you enjoyed this, Jen, it's scary to stop and contemplate what could happen to us all, but of course that way lies madness. We never know what the future holds and I for one think that it's better that way.
Hi Jen. You seem to love many of the movies I do and I love your reactions to them.
Being British, Welsh to be exact lol I thought I’d send you a recommendation.
Twin Town is a fantastic Welsh made 90’s film with Rhys Ifans. First part of the movie starts out really fun with the stoner twins but takes a really dark turn.
Seems to be a film many brits love but is often overlooked.
Really hope you consider reacting to it or putting it in a poll, as I think you will love it.
Keep up the great work.
Live long and prosper!
Shocked and happy gotta love jens expressions 😀 really enjoyed the chaos and destruction in this movie everyone is in for a great time watching your reaction jen i know i did youre peacocks tail 🔥🙌

Other good disaster movies are Knowing with Nicolas cage and the day the earth stood still. They were both pretty fun to watch.
crazy unrealistic, but entertaining movie
Besides san andreas fault line and volcano eruption
I'm an avid disaster movie freak so I just watched your Day After Tomorrow one, my fave movie of all time, now going into this. Might do your war of the world's one next! I subbed!
Happy to have you! :)
I still think the most overlooked moment in this movie is Hawaii just becoming a Volcano. No way anyone got off that island unless they were already at sea and even then it would be too hot.
I live in Hawaii I'm Born and Raised there and I would think so to there's not where to go unless you have or Find a Boat we have Cruise ship that comes here
The Arcs and conundrum of who to save and what to tell everyone was used as a core in When Worlds Collide (1951). An epic sci-fi movie for its time.
Man...thank you!! I've been trying to remember the name of that movie for a couple of weeks now and here you are lol crazy
imagine you were just planning to climb mount everest and when you reach the top there is just a big ass wave crashing arround you, everyone panicking in the ship, you're like da fuck are they doin ova there
Looks like Christmas came early, Jen. So much excitement for you.
I had a great time, I hope you had a great time, too! Sorry, Jen, don't strike me for copyright!
One of the few semi-realistic things in this film: if they'd kept the arcs in the mountain they'd run the risk of the mountain collapsing on top of them or trapping them inside.
"High Fidelity" is my favorite John Cusack movie. Easily in the top 5.
Cheesy at times but fun movie. You really should watch The Perfect Storm. Not a disaster movie per se but a good drama based on a true event. John Cusack movies you should watch are "Gross Pointe Blank", "Say Anything" and he has a smaller role in "Stand By Me", and for a a campy action but fun one is "Con Air".
about the only movie I know, where I could never develop any compassion for the characters. It might be because I would have been one of the billions nameless implied dead people throughout the movie. Right on the same (low) level as San Andreas for me
Yes! Yes Jen! Disaster is my jam. Love this film! Some much more serious and true story Disaster films are "The Impossible" and "Deep Water Horizon". I don't think anyone has reacted to "Deep Water" and it may not be about a topic you would think about. Also another favorite of mine with an amazing twist for an ending is Life of Pi.
I've had Deepwater Horizon on a couple of polls, it's def on my list!
@@jenmurrayxo you should react to Runaway Jury
I love how the plane that has to be ditched because they've run out of fuel falls off a cliff and explodes in a giant fireball. With no fuel left to explode. 😂
Every single movie transport crash ever, amiright!? 😂
Gasoline fumes are much more flamable than gasoline itself, so no wonder empty gas tanks so explosive
@@pr9n3g actually, good point.
2012 was marketed through the fictional Institute for Human Continuity, at a viral marketing website that was created by the movie studio.
At the website, filmgoers could register for a lottery number to be part of a small population that would be rescued from the global destruction. David Morrison of NASA, who had received over 1,000 inquiries from people who thought the website was genuine, condemned it. "I've even had cases of teenagers writing to me saying they are contemplating suicide because they don't want to see the world end", Morrison said. "I think when you lie on the internet and scare children to make a buck, that is ethically wrong."
This movie was a real blast on the big screen! And yes you should watch San Adreas! Also, check out "Greenland" (2020) with Gerald Butler. And there is an old movie from 1974 called "Earthquake" with Charlton Heston. There is also another old film called "Crack in the World" (1965) where someone had the bright idea of detonating a nuclear bomb inside an active volcano (in order to try and stop a bigger catastrophe).
Roland Emmerich's movies arent really high art but the guy sure is reliable and consistent. You go in expecting a movie where stuff breaks and shit goes down and that is exactly what he delivers every time.
Hey Jen👋I'm so Sorry for being Late to the Premiere: You know how much I'd been looking forward to this one, and for so long too!😅Either way, Thank You for finally going on this Wild Ride👏looks like You Enjoyed it as much as I always do!👍

Death by rodent was surprisingly common.
My major picadillo with this movie is the direction when the super volcano goes off and the family just kind of stands there and goes, 'huh, would you look at that?' that is not how any living human being would react to seeing something like that.
*Jumping for joy!* It's here. It's finally here.
Some good John Cusack movies:
Serendipity
High Fidelity
Say Anything
Grosse Pointe Blank as well
Con Air is an absolute must on this list, though he is a co-star to Nicolas Cage.
Yeah, this movie isn't as good as other disaster movies I've watched because we the audience aren't really given anything to cheer for. No plans are laid out for us to follow; we're just left guessing. In The Day After Tomorrow, we're told it's important to keep the fire going, we cheer for the dad going to rescue his son, we have an idea of what to expect ahead of time so we can see if things are going well or not. This movie doesn't give us a guide like that, so we are dragged along through events rather than anticipating them. It's a subtle difference, but one that changes your level of satisfaction with how the movie unfolds and why this one leaves us feeling disquieted at the end instead of victorious or hopeful. Storytelling 101 fail in this movie, but I still like it.
If you want to check out Godzilla, go for it! I watched the original many times as a kid and loved it, but I've never seen the fancy modern remake. Could be fun to see. :)
This movie is exhausting. It never lets up. Unbelievable number of perils. Side note: Yes there was physically more room for more people but was there food, water, and resources to handle them.
The tone of this film is so weird to get emotional about, but when the Russian hurls his son upwards in his last moments brings me to tears
One of my favourite Disaster Movies, and one of the last good films John Cusack starred in. Solid drama, quality comedic moments, and amazing apocalyptic effects.
I'm forecasting some wide eyes behind Jen's Serious Girl Spectacles on this one.
This movie has some ridiculous moments, but very entertaining. Woody Harrelson's character is hilarious 😅 I really like the plot twist that the arks aren't Spaceships. However they're built basically air and water tight like a spaceship or submarine. It's no shock most of the people being saved are wealthy A-holes. However money would be worthless even if you survive. The financial system doesn't exist anymore. Society would be starting over from scratch.
So since money is worthless everyone that helped build the Arks should have received a ticket for themselves and possibly family on an Ark.
Its not right to use the workers and leave them to die. Thats sick.

In 2012 people actually believed the world would end. Well we are still here. I enjoyed this movie. It held my interest. A good disaster movie with friends over is a lot of fun! The Towering Inferno and others have you on the edge of your seat. This is well worth it. Enjoy!
It did end. We're living in a simulation. Wake up sheeple
