I started out with tarot recently and recorded a 30 minute reading for a friend, who seemed very enthuisiastic about getting a reading first, but it's already two months and she didn't even listen to it. After I asked her about it, a week after sending, she said, she didn't expect such a long one and she's too busy to listen to 30 minutes reading. That's when I realized, that even for friends, offering reading for free may not be the best idea. Since that experience, when I do readings for free for my friends, I say them that they should only ask me for one when they're really interested in one. Not just for fun.

I've been reading tarot for 18 years - I'm only now looking to go professional but that's through confidence & experience. Being a therapist has prepared me well for the serious issues that people bring to a reading.
Age is not relevant, being able to manage challenging issues is vital. I had one client ask me if her breast lump was cancerous (I told her to see her doctor and be properly assessed). That's a perfect example of what I'm talking about.

Same with reiki. There has to be an energy exchange for them to value.

This was right up my alley. I totally believe in energy exchange. I was doing hours of free readings in my live streams the past year and a half.(The longest one was 9hours in the beginning just for the practice.) It was a great way to gain confidence along with the practice and feedback. The one important thing I learned was that when a reading is given for free, the guidance goes in one ear and out the other. Same things happens when I do them in person for free. It doesn't really settle in unless it's something significant or mind blowing. There has to be some energy exchange involved for it to be worthwhile. After I do what I do, I'm so exhausted and like you said, I feel like I should be out of commission for a few days lol. Great points and advice! Thank you for what you do for this community. We are all here to grow and learn and help others do the same together as a team! Right on sister!

Yay! so right. I'v explained so many times that. 1. Learning Tarot in general takes time and possibly money if you ever took formal classes. 2. time taking care of myself so that I can do this in a healthy way takes time. ex: daily(ish) meditation 3. time to read and money spent on books learning all of the things that go along with tarot ...the psychology of symbolism and art, different religions, cultures and history etc. etc. that are depicted in the cards that have to be contextualized. 4. Just plain overhead. Cards, maintaining contacts even the incense, candles and eyeliner I use when doing the whole dog and any show for a party etc. All of the time and effort and money I took to do this well, deserves the fee I'm charging. Between us cardslingers, if we got paid hourly for all of that, we'd never have to work again. But the joy and satisfaction you get when someone gets that lightbulb over their head. "OMG That makes so much seeeennnssseee now! Thank You." is worth the difference between what I charge and what I should probably earn.

Really great points! I have been doing free readings for feedback since may. 98% of the people have filled their end of the bargain and it has been super helpfull. But then there are people who agree to get a reading for feedback but they never give that! Even after a reminder email 🤷🏼‍♀️ That shit is just rude! So that’s why I totally agree with your point about charging. That would keep the leeches out. Thanks for sharing ❤️

I couldn't agree with with you more about charging for your services. As a Reiki Master/Teacher, I charge for my classes and in the past have choosen one person per year to gift my classes to but...no more. I've heard it before, people don't appreicate it if they don't pay "something" for it. Going forward, I will use your idea and charge a VERY small fee, even if it just covers postage and/or printing costs. You've offered some solid advice here. Thank you Tara.

I do believe readers should be fairly compensated for their time based on their experience. It seems that with the HUGE influx of divination readers out there the "market value" has shifted downward and I feel it de-values those who truly deserve their rate. I've been self-employed a good chunk of my life and there have been times where I have negotiated my rate, but do so that it is fair compensation on both sides.
Though, I wouldn't call myself a teacher or mentor but more of a life long student who happens to be older! 😉 🌙 ✨ 🌹 ~MRT~

Hey Beautiful! First of all... this is the first time I've ever seen one of your videos. I love your energy and I really appreciate this video. I can totally relate to the friends and family thing... pour your whole heart and soul into a reading only for them to not take notes, forget everything that was even said, not watch the video, dismiss the advice EVEN WHEN THEY RELATE 100% and say it's SPOT ON. That's hurtful and discouraging on so many levels. You could ask them a week later, and they have no idea or no recollection of anything from their reading, and it's just like what for!! Do you know what else I could have been doing with my time... ?! And I swear sometimes I feel like I'm just glutenous for punishment 'cause I've allowed it over and over. BUT it's hard to get away from when all you want to do is help, right?! So I totally get that. I also appreciated the note about not hurting your own industry. I see that a lot in the Tarot community... people selling readings SO cheap and it's like... HOW?! But for someone who is doing this work seriously, and full-time, those prices are impossible to compete with and/or match. Like you said... by the time I'm done with a deep reading, all I can do is crawl to my bed! (I'm still working on ways to keep myself charged so that I don't have to do that... when you figure it out, let me know LOL) And... last but certainly not least... The part about your desire to help and heal being greater than your fears... I needed to hear that today. I worry about being wrong, but I've never missed the mark. And even at times when I thought I did... where they may not resonate right away, within 1-3 days, they come back and say omg... everything you said just unfolded! So I had to realize that sometimes we're picking up future energy as well. I'm finding methods to identify what's current, past, and future so that I can be more clear during the reading.
Thank you so much. This video was super valuable to me today, and I appreciate your time and energy. Thank you! 💖

some people you can't please when you read them. they say you are wrong and then stuff happens, but they still won't fully admit it. they might give you credit for some of what you were right with or see it another way then what you said, but you were still right. some people get mad about dates. have you gone through that yet? a lot can happen with timing. the other person may have done something to change it go to jail or something else. sometimes it can take a few months or even a year or two for something to happen that you may see, but they want it to happen instant.

    • @KittensWeightsandTarot
      @KittensWeightsandTarot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I usually try to feel a person's energy out before I read for them. If I feel they are "testing" me or looking for someone to "fix" their life for them (meaning they would not be open to guidance), I will not read for them.

Amazing - I'm hoping to offer readings in the future so this is very helpful Thanks Tara 🙏 😃 Xxx - I do actually have a few questions around reading for friends and family as that is where I am at right now and I find it hard to separate the fact I know their lives and I think sometimes they do too. I've explained it's not necessarily about predicting the future or psychic abilities and it's more taking the question and reading the wisdom of the cards related to their question/ situation but do you have any advice for navigating that pre awareness of who they are and their circumstances but also what to do if you find your head getting in the way as a result of that - like sometimes I feel like I'm second guessing myself and it becomes far too cerebral rather than intuitive if that makes sense? Thanks so much Tara Xxx

I've been trying to make self employment work and tarot and Lenormand readings are the only thing I have decades worth of experience. But it's been so hard to break into the Etsy Market. So many people are charging 5 dollars and even matching that price I haven't gotten any bite except from friends. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
It would help soooo much if I can make a little income doing readings regularly. It's literally survival for me now since I'm on disability and unable to work traditional jobs.

Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us💜 What I found helped my spiritual business was my social media presence through TH-cam and Instagram. For me personally, it took a few years for readings to slowly come in after having my TH-cam channel. Once I took the leap of quitting my teaching job to pursue my spiritual work full time, my business boomed and I am now able to support myself with what I love to do. It took my journey 8 years from beginning to present for it to be as it is now🤍 I hope hearing my journey helps💗💗💗💗 Much love!

@@KittensWeightsandTarot hi! I remember watching you in the early days when you were still a teacher! I'm so glad you're able to pursue spirituality as a full time career. I'm putting it my all but I think I'm not so good with social media marketing. I've been on TH-cam for an example for probably over several years now and Instagram has changed their algorithm where I feel hashtags are no longer relevant. I literally get zero likes whereas I remember a time when on average everyone had about 30 ❤️
I've heard about consistency, and having a theme and also offering free tools as a way to market. I really hope eventually it will work. Having chronic illness is hard and nobody seems to be hiring right now that would work with my disability 😔

I do not personally have any websites I can recommend, but I know that there is a big opening for phone call tarot readers. If you do a bit of internet searching for phone call readers, make sure you can find up front pricing for their readers. Some sites take way too much of a percentage from those who read on their site, or through their phone service. I hope this helps

My inspiration is my Canadian mom (I do actually call her that, lol!). She's in her early 60's now. She quit working for others when she was in her 40s; just decided to run her own store. She sold that store when she was in her 50's with not a clue of what she wanted to do next. She moved back to Canada & set up shop from her home making hand crafted items. Now that she's in her 60s she wants to move back to the States and maybe try opening a business again. She's always flown by the seat of her pants & I wish I was more like her

if you give advice to be nice free once every few years, a lot of those same people will try to keep getting you to give free readings. it's happened to mom before. the gift thing someone told mom they would pay for a reading then left her hanging because people came over visited and took mom for granted. they then said they wouldn't pay and mentioned it should be free because it's a gift. that person got blocked. I could give more examples of people who think that the world owes them something free. I used to talk to you as Account Account. have you had people have the nerve to ask you to give them a sample to see if you are real also? she has been through that a lot and says she doesn't give samples. do you read people at the house also?

I am so sorry that has happened to your mother :o( Every once in awhile I will get a DM or email from people wanting free readings; I don't even respond. Once in a great while, though, I might come across someone who I know would really benefit from some guidance & someone I can lend an ear. I will gladly help them (& they never ask for anything for free). They are always so grateful for the reading

once someone said mom was wrong and later that persons relative said how mom was right and spot on with a lot of stuff. this person was just negative and wasn't admitting to what mom got right and tried to say it was wrong. don't ever take checks or give credit. the check will bounce a lot of times or they won';t ever send the money for the reading that you did. even doctors ripped mom off on credit. one person mom found her missing pet. she found him where mom said and that person cancelled the check.
