    I absolutely love your videos, they are phenomenal. I don't think you've put one out that I don't like. You explain things really well and you are a great teacher. However, I think it's your friendly, jovial personality that attracts a lot of people. You help lots of people to de-stress and it's like spending 30-60 minutes with a good friend. In these stressful, challenging times we all need that. Thank you for the work you do and the time you spend making these videos.

      Thanks so much 😊 What a great comment to wake up to this morning. I treat all my students like they are close friends. When I talk into the camera I remember all the comments and faces of my students. With these difficult times, it is great fun! Thanks!

    A true artist is not afraid to paint anything out
    - that’s so true David, when I get too attached to something on my painting, and refuse to touch that area, so that I don’t ruin it... it negatively affects the overall composition and then I start to struggle.
    I’m really going to put your advice to use

      David Jansen wow thank you for replying!! I’m in Australia and love to paint Australian birds so have taken a lot from the brush strokes you do when you talk about calligraphy as well as tone. It’s interesting that you have a tonal chart that you refer to a lot so I do appreciate that. Will be using that in future. Happy painting... and BOOM! Now my favourite saying. My teenagers have loved that one !!

    Always watching David, you have become like a family member your voice in my house, especially during these still hard times. I am painting birds, not like yours of course, but still trying. I have been into birds for some reason and I think because they are free and we still are not. They land on my deck or the Bradford Pear trees and always a nest someplace. One year they made a nest on my spring wreath on my front door. So funny, so we had to go out by garage and ended up tossing the wreath. Funny. Anyway love those bird pics and your stories. Take care, Mary in NC, but from MD.

    These small birds love the prairie park where we live/work. they go after the many seeds of the acres of wild flowers here at Afton.
    I have a few requests: Oreole , scarlet tanager.
    My husband didn't get to see the tanager this year, but I did. Happened to be outside when he was. female is a very washed out yellow-green.

    • @JansenArtEducation

    Lovely painting! I think I would have fiddled forever, that's going to be an area for growth for me! I really wanted to mottle a little of the Hansa yellow with a lot of white just streaking through that bluish gray and white over his head, I'm a sucker for sunlight! Still gorgeous, and lilacs are a personal favorite!
    As for the hummingbird question, I live in the Seattle area, and we get the ruby throated ones, but we also get these ones that are all green all over but then they change color as you look at them with their iridescent feathers, so they go from this incredible emerald green and sea blue green to magenta and violet and electric blue! Really incredible birds. I'll see if I can find a photo to share in the FB Group.

    Lovely painting!
    What do you mean by calligraphy(sp?)?

    • @JansenArtEducation
      @JansenArtEducation  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jackie, I explain it in a couple videos. I need to do it a little more. Several years ago I read a "Alla Prima" book by Al Gury. In it is a entire explanation of "brush calligraphy" all the way back to the Dutch master Frans Halls. Fantastic. Basically your can tell an artist by how they use the brush. I specially went to the National Gallery in Washington, then over to Europe to study some of Halls calligraphy. It is amazing. Since then I use my brush in different ways to make different looks. Essentially though you can tell an artist by how they make a brush mark. Just like handwriting. Since that time I have studied the brush work of several "masters" in many different genres. It has given me so many new ideas and paths of creativity.

    Sorry I’ve been so quiet... I was so busy researching Sargent. (you’ve been speaking about John Singer Sargent for soooo many years, that I finally went and researched what makes him so special. ).....
    Oh my gosh I love his methods! And it’s gotten me interested in portraits.

      Hi Nabeelah,
      If you like portraits.... Look up John Howard Sandem. He is AMAZING. He recreates a Sargent. I have his books and ALL his videos. He has a great website. He paints Sargents techniques and developed a great step by step process for Premier Coup. 😊

    I'm glad to see your video teaching. The only flaw is that you can't see the objects you draw. It would be great if you can put the pictures you want to draw in the video teaching and see them at the same time.

    Can you do a North Carolina bluebird

      @JansenArtEducation  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Donna, Isn't the North Carolina Bluebird the "Eastern Bluebird"? I have never heard of a North Carolina bluebird. I will certainly look it up and paint it. I love the Carolina Wren. Another of my favorites. Thanks 😊

      Yes it is the Eastern bluebird I'm pretty sure it's been awhile since I've been in North Carolina but they were really beautiful birds basically a beautiful blue with under the chin and a lighter blue I think. It's been awhile since I've seen one since I'm not in North Carolina anymore but they are gorgeous birds
