You did a good job with a lot of things. Starting with getting the vehicle description accurate. I have watched a lot of 4Runner reviewers that don't seem to have a clue to what they are reviewing. Or don't take the time to make the titles accurate. Your impressions and attention to the details was pretty good. Your facts were almost dead on. #1, the TRD Off Road version does have the option for KDSS. Which increases your off road articulation and reduces body roll on the road ways. It is not just in the TRD PRO model. Your reference to the Limited having the auto ride adjust system balanced out the fail on that comparison however. lol Also the 4WD system on the TRD Off Road trim has A-Trac. (it was not in your text about the difference)The only other thing(s) I might add for people reading this comment is, the front end is difficult to get a feel for. Meaning, when pulling into a parking spot, you may not get a good sense how close you are to things. I have driven a LOT of vehicles, including tractor/trailer vehicles and have a very diverse experience range with things. And this particular vehicle design leaves you wondering where that front end is at. With no safety sensors or front camera, you might find yourself spending a lot of time getting in and out inching into garages, shopping parking spots or asking someone to spot for you. The back up camera takes care of any concerns and visual short comings in the rear of the vehicle adequately. And as for cleaning, you might figure it is a challenge to wash. And you are correct. With Toyota courtesy washes, you get some help. But don't expect it to be super duper or dried for you. With that lead in, what you will never expect or is talked about in these videos is, the dirt/dust/sand etc. gets in UNDER the lift gate. It won't get into the cargo area but even if you think you have washed the vehicle and the bumper looks clean, open that lift gate and you will be in for a surprise. The solution to this problem(besides having to hand wash it afterwords) is to use a blower system to 1st get rid of that before you wash. Blow down and under that lift gate and around your rear window seal. This will greatly help your vehicle detailing experience. As well if you do not opt. for the pull out tray, help keep you cleaner leaning in to get to your cargo. It is my 1st 4Runner and I bought it for the off road capabilities that surpass anything I have ever owned before. It is true however, if you are a suburbanite, or city dweller that does not need the added capabilities of a 4Runner, there are plenty of other SUV's that can carry you around for less money, better MPG on the highway(which I still say 20 mpg on the highway for this sort of rig is excellent)and softer ride(which I still say this ride is very comfortable on and off road) you can find other vehicles that will tailor to your needs and wants. I think for what it is, it is a tad over priced. Have felt that way for the Toyota products for decades. You will more than likely recover a fair amount of money back from selling outright should that day come around for you. Oh and 1 more thing, NEVER buy from Toyota of Puyallup Washington if you want a fair deal. They are lazy, greedy and will sell you the lie that what you want can only be ordered from the factory. ( and no I did not buy from them)
Thank you! This comment is great, full of information. Thanks for all the points you talked about! A lot of good stuff in here...it’s always nice to hear from someone who owns one. I pinned this comment, hope you don’t mind. But thanks again for all the information! 👍
I have a 2018 4runner and have no problems with the front end and parking. You just have to know your vehicle. After a few times it’s quite easy to know where the front end is just like any other vehicle.
Bought a 2016 SR5 premium about two weeks ago. I. Love. This. Thing. It sold me on the bullet proof reliability and I love that they’re all made in the same 3 plants in Japan.
So glad to see someone doing an SR5 review rather than the TRD PRO. For most applications the SR5 4x4 is more than enough. I live in Minnesota and these things will go through the snow without issues. The SR5 has less body roll than the TRD . They’re smooth and comfortable.
Robert D I couldn’t agree with you more, when i was in the store for a new car/suv i had the trd off road/pro on my mind, test drove the sr5 and it’s a much comfier ride. Ended up walking out with the 2020 sr5, plus it’s more than enough
The button on the side that has a picture of a windshield wiper is not to control the back wiper. It is a heater that warms the front wipers when they are frozen. The back wiper is controlled by the knob at the end of the wiper lever.
Just bought a 2018 4Runner Premium today! Love it! It’s the 4+4. I had a 2004 SR5 4Runner and it was a great truck! Never had one single issue with it, just had over 252,000 miles and was getting old. Hope the new one is as good!
dave aaron that’s awesome! Love the 4runners and I would only imagine it would be just as solid as the one you had. Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for sharing
I just bought the 4Runner sr5 premium 4x4 last week and its is a very good truck with no issues and I enjoy it very much and it let u feel like a boss when u drive it and I like it more than my Toyota Highlander
That’s awesome! Haha yes you certainly do feel like a boss, feel like you can just drive over anything. I really really liked it. Thanks for sharing that and watching, enjoy your 4Runner!
If you want to add some more liveliness to it, consider an after market turbocharge kit. Have watched some really nice youtube videos of after market shops that have added in more HP to give you that extra zesty zip. And if done right, can keep your MPG on the highway as long as you keep your foot out of it. But when you want extra punch, can definitely make it feel that much more sporty.
Great SUV. I have 2000 2WD 4Runner 195,xxx miles now..still running strong! 1st and maybe last 4runner I own..I love it so much and I don't want to replace it!
What did you think of the 4Runner? I really enjoyed my time with it and it was more comfortable/quieter than I was expecting. Just wish it had more features and better handling. I’m testing new microphones this week and hope to have better audio for next video! Consider subscribing if you’re new and thanks for watching!
On 2wd SR5 it’s just an automatic limited slip, no locker. A 4x4 sr5 gets the A-Trac traction system but not until TRd Off Road do you get the rear locking diff. I wish it came with it
Paul Donnelly the Tacoma Limited 4x4 still only has the limited slip differential and just the regular 4x4. Only the TRD Off Road and TRD Pro give you the locking diff and A-TRAC. I didn’t really have anything real slippery but I could tell the Limited slip helped me a couple times in loose stuff uphill in the 4Runner. I wish they all could come with a locking diff though
I bought a 4runner limited in 2002 new...I loved it and put 300,000 miles on it. I had no problems with it ran great. Last year bought a 2018 4runner SR5...love it.
Had a 4x4 model for a rental in MN in December. Totally awesome. Handled everything with ease and very comfortable all the way around. The shortest person was 5'9' and we all fit without issues
I was about to skip your video and then I waited for you to say it was an sr5 premium 2wd. I wasn't sure if mine was premium or not but it's just like this one. Now I know for sure it is. You really went into such detail.
Thank you! Very informative! I'm a proud owner of a kickin 2005 Toyota 4Runner that is still running strong after 173,000 miles, however getting ready to purchase a 2016 -2018 model. Just not sure yet. The 4Runner is a classic...much like Land Cruiser, once you are hooked you are hooked for life.
That’s so true! It’s a very well done and well built vehicle. My wife and are have considered getting one some day. Glad to hear yours is doing well and thank you for sharing that!
Now you got a good platform there. ;) I did not opt for the Premium package. I went with the standard and put in the KDSS. Which thus far has proven to be an excellent trade off. If you are going to do technical stuff with it, I would strongly suggest putting on some Sliders, and changing out the plastic bumpers for something rugged. Those plastic bumpers will just get ripped off the moment you bump into something. Show piece for those that never do anything but drive over speed bumps. ;)
Really like your review and the vehicle, very futuristic design and it seems it would appeal to a person like myself that lives out in the stixs but frequent town often; if not, works in a city. Really disappointed in the gas mileage , I have an '89 Cadillac Deville that get 24 HWY. You would obviously have to get the version that's an upper grade that what you were driving, I feel; inorder to get some additional benefits from the suv. I wonder if those pop down running boards interfere with ground clearance. Great Job, again. Hope GOD continues to Bless you, PEACE!
Good to hear from you, Alex! That’s crazy your Caddy can get better Milagros than this lol but I’d believe it. Maybe they’ll update powertrain with the next refresh. It does the job though with reliability and capability. Idk what trim I’d go for but I agree I would want a higher level. TRD Pro seems awesome. Thanks for watching!
The Limited with the "pop down running boards" retract either on automatic or you can flip the switch to keep them up. As for a permanent "running board" if you are not doing technical things out on the trail, you would more than likely be fine. But if you were really concerned about bashing boulders, roots or cresting things and doing damage to your rocker panels, it would be best to buy "sliders". And they are after market items that you should be looking for. Because Toyota does not offer real sliders to handle the abuse. In fact, more than likely their idea of steps/tube bars will get hung up on things and cause more damage.

The 4.6 V8 must be offered in this and the Tacoma and removed from the Tundra. Another option would be is to turbocharge the 4.0
It would be nice to have that 4.6 for sure. Turbo would be interesting lol probably pretty Ballsy too
I think the 4.6 may make sense since the 4-th gen 4Runner was available with the 4.7 V8
That would be nice. Maybe next gen they’ll give an option for more power
How tall are u? Did u find it comfortable?
I’m 5’9”. It was very comfortable to me, I like the shaking of the seats. I had plenty of room too
I'm 6' 9" tall and was able to sit in one and it was good enough for me. And from my seat position the salesman who was 5' 8" was able to sit behind me.
So does the SR5 trim come with Atrac?
Can you remote start the engine
17/21 is decent mpg for what this truck can do. Try towing 5000 pound trailer with a Camry, lol.
What does the premium mean?
Comes with heated seats, power moon roof, synthetic leather seats, power adjustable passenger seats, navigation, auto dimming mirror, garage opener etc

FYI Doug makes mistakes too. He’s even been called out by TFL Truck. I’m not interested in only talking about “weird quirky things”. Also, in my defense this was one of the first vehicles I was able to review and I’ve improved since then. I appreciate your feedback and I’m sorry for the mistake.
This is a rather well thought out review, thanks! It must be a lonely place being perfect, ggk, eh?
Thank you! I just got done with a 2019 4Runner TRD Pro if you want to see it: th-cam.com/video/1lyqEJ2i2ZI/w-d-xo.html

@@jolkraeremeark6949 I don't think that was your review. I have already received respond from the guy who was reviewing the vehicle and I have a lot of respect for him for the answer he gave me. Being "near" perfect it's not a bad thing. Life goes a lot easier. And believe me it's not boring.
I understand. 'We' all have problems.........
@@gagusiek Haha what a 'likeable' person you are
