    I replaced my old ultra with the same model. The old one served me well for 10 years but started showing signs of wear and and so I replaced it with same model. In the new one I having this problem of jar not coming of easily.
    Also coconut scraper is very dangerous to use and speed cannot be regulated so if your hand slips while holding coconut you will get cut badly. Atta kneading attachment is also not good. Dough has to be pushed manually wth spatula between blades.

    • @VitalFairLiving
      @VitalFairLiving  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ask the manufacturer to replace if you have problems. Is it Fastgrind?Fortunately mine works, I have no way to replace it. I just saw yesterday a video with atta kneader, and I was also not convinced with that. A stand mixer or a food processor is better for kneading dough, if you don't want to do by hand. I was also scared of using the coconut kneader and never used it. I threw it away long back. I don't want to be pushing the dough either, too much work, rather do it by hand. This grinder serves the purpose only for wet grinding and so far so good. I guess the older models older than 20 years were very good.

      Very good review Sneha, time to inform the makers to accommodate a provision or program to use when coconut scraping to avoid hand injuries, or they better provide steel gloves to protect them!

      @@VitalFairLiving Ultra grinder can not be compared with the grinders of Meenakshi and meenakshi. In the ultra grinder cleaning of the stones is just horrible . Coconut scraper is dangerous as one gets hurt badly. Ultra is not a good one as per my experience, Thinking of purchasing Meenakshi and meenakshi grinder,

      In this model the grinding unit is on the top of the motor. I have this type of wet grinder of a different brand. In this the flour gets heated which is ultimately reflects bad in making soft idlies. Even I have tried using ice water while grinding and putting the soaked dal in fridge also.

    • @VitalFairLiving
      @VitalFairLiving  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      An important point to consider. It must do with the insulation around the motor. My observation was it was not heating up in this machine. I touched the motor after grinding both dhal & rice, it was not hot. The old one used to get warm after grinding for 30 min. I don't use ice water or anything. Just room temperature water and soaked grains. We get really soft idlys and they ferment well. I use a proving drawer to ferment them over night at a controlled temperature otherwise it doesn't ferment well here. In fact for Pongal festival , I even ground only 1 cup of Vada batter- ( U. dhal). The best vada ever, so soft and yummy. I will definitely observe this again. The chutneys taste fresh even after a few days in the fridge. Since then I started to grind chutneys in this machine instead of the mixie. So far so good.

    Thanks a lot mam for your video comparison. Could you kindly advise on 2 points? 1. How is the noise level during grinding between the 2 models? 2. How does the Coconut scrapper and Dough kneader work in the new model? At our house we have a 25 year old Ultra similar to the one you use, but it is a bit heavy. your advice would be very helpful. thanks once again.

    • @VitalFairLiving
      @VitalFairLiving  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are welcome. The noise is louder than the older one to some extent, especially the dhal. I haven't tried both the coconut scraper and dough kneader as I have no need for both of them so didn't buy one. This one was a little lighter, but bulky and taller. All in all I am satisfied so far, but I use it once or twice a month maximum.

    • @VitalFairLiving
      @VitalFairLiving  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I just saw your query. I would make it in 3 batches and give the grinder a rest. It will heat up. I usually use 1 cup of rice and 4 cups or dhal. And this gives me around 2.5 liters of batter including the water. I never really measured it. But while transferring in a container I noticed it. This is the US cup measurement.

      2 Liters is ideal for a family, Ultra has a 1.2 L Ultra Dura I think, not sure just check it out. A little cheaper. I have included some links too in the description box.

    • @VitalFairLiving
      @VitalFairLiving  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I cannot say, because I don't have experience with perfect +. I think both are good from what videos I saw. Each has advantages and disadvantages. Please look at Fast grind in the shop before you decide. I ordered it blind and have stowed it in a hidden corner in my kitchen. Fast grind works well and I am satisfied. But look in the showroom before purchasing.

      I have no idea about the timer not working. Probably would do it manually then. I wouldn't wash it in the dishwasher because there is glue stuck to the stone and the metal and that will destroy it and the stone will come out. Better to wash by hand.

      Have you soaked it long? In the beginning, you should probably help the grains reach the grinding stone, because they don't all reach the stones. if left unattended. Sometimes could be the rice variety. We used to get some U dhal which could never be ground fully.
      If it still persists, try contacting Elgi Ultra the machine has 5 years warranty.
      Happy Pongal to you too. Wishing your family too in advance.

    Hi. Does it heat up a lot while grinding? Is the make of it durable? How do u feel?

    • @VitalFairLiving
      @VitalFairLiving  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The grinder is very durable and very nice quality I haven't seen anything better. The finish is also made with high quality materials. I didn't feel that the batter was heating up personally. But I soak the grains in very cold water so I wouldn't know. I also grind the dhal and the rice separately. The grinding time for dhal is less than 15 minutes and rice also less than 15 minutes. So all in all around 20 min for both so it doesn't heat up. I don't grind too much quantity just 4.5 cups of both together. My cousin from Chennai soaks her grains and keeps in the fridge before grinding, that way it wouldn't heat up even with her normal ultra grinder.

    Ultra wet grinders are most selling table top grinders in the market for years... and its various models are featured with some technical modifications in their working procedure as well as in its capacity, durability, weight and space it needed...some models were designed with two conical grinding stones and three conical stones...the perfect grinding time depends on the power and rpm of the motor, roughness of the grinding stones and the base stone and also depends on the quantity of the food grains we use...but in this video the new model showed fast grinding result only because of it's fastest running process where the stones and drum rotates at the same time...anyway there maybe minor advantages and disadvantages in every models that maybe negligible...Proper handling and maintaining extends its life... no doubt...!!! 👌

      I ferment it over night for 8 to 10 hours. But I have a proving drawer which maintains the temperature constantly. Previously I heated the oven to 100 deg. centigrade, cooled it a little and kept the batter over night. Another trick I did was let the dhal and rice soak the whole day and then used the same water for grinding. This really ferments well. My mother always added some older batter as culture and that helps too. I don't do that and this system works.
