Doctor Who Holiday Special: The Church on Ruby Road - It's Christmas Day and time for the first Ncuti Gatwa Episode
Long ago on Christmas Eve, a baby was abandoned in the snow. Today, Ruby Sunday meets the Doctor, stolen babies, goblins and perhaps the secret of her birth.
MORE ABOUT DOCTOR WHO:
Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC since November 23rd, 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called "The Doctor", an extraterrestrial being, appearing to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. Its exterior appears as a blue British metropolitan police box, which was a common sight in Britain in the 1960’s when the series first aired. Accompanied by a number of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes like the Daleks and Cybermen while working to save civilisations and save people in need.
Beginning with William Hartnell, over fifteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation and body, a plot device in which a Timelord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally.
Ncuti Gatwa had previously been announced as Jodie Whittaker's successor after David Tennant reprises his role as the doctor in the 60th anniversary specials as the programme's lead, and many reports stated he would play the Fourteenth Doctor and that Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor would regenerate into an incarnation portrayed by Gatwa. Upon Jodie Whittaker's final appearance as the character in The Power Of The Doctor, she instead regenerated into a form similar to the Tenth Doctor. This character, portrayed by Tennant, was confirmed to be the Fourteenth Doctor, with later clarification that Ncuti Gatwa would actually portray the Fifteenth Doctor. Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th doctor has also had his companion announced as Millie Gibson playing Ruby Sunday live on Children In Need.
On 24 September 2021, the BBC announced Russell T Davies would return to Doctor Who as showrunner, after having previously acted as showrunner from 2005-2010 for the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. He will succeed Chibnall for the show's 60th anniversary in 2023 and beyond. Davies will be joined by the Bad Wolf production company, which was founded by former Doctor Who executive producer Julie Gardner and former BBC head of drama Jane Tranter. In October 2021, it was announced that Sony would acquire a majority of Bad Wolf. Bad Wolf also took over creative control of Doctor Who beginning with the specials, allowing the BBC to focus on establishing Doctor Who as a global brand. The new era of Doctor Who is being labelled as RTD2 as it is Russel’s second era of Doctor Who.

Yeah, like obviously we know from the Big Finish and comic tie-ins that Ruby's mum did drop a handful of babies off a cliff that one time but that was for the Vine so it's okay.
It is still so funny that these kind of NuWho Doctor Who ‘fans’ exist. The entirety of the NuWho era has been “woke” and preachy (whatever bs buzzword you’d like) literally ever since the Eccleston era.

Honestly it made sense that this Doctor's more emotional, since he spent time with the Nobles which has massively affected him allowing him to be more open with his emotions and how he feels, he's able to open up a lot more, which we also saw with him talking about his past as the Timeless Child which both 13 and 14 struggled to talk about, and I really like that! These anti-woke channels aren't even attempting to hide their bigotry anymore... I can't wait to see your video about these anti-woke channels!

So, I've been doing a re-watch and just got up to Series 4. Do we think this guy was incredibly confused because Mrs Foster was the "foster mother" to all those adipose, but instead of "keeping all her children" she sent them up to their parents in the big spaceships at the end?
Can we just bring up how the Doctor has literally died for people he just met? When Peter Davison's Doctor got poisoned he gave the antidote to Peri, who he just met. Peter Capaldi fought off legions of cybermen alone on floor 507 while holding back regeneration for a village of people he had just met. Paul McGann stayed in a crashing spaceship trying to save a woman who he just met, who also hated him with every bone in her body. A woman who wanted him dead. And he would've died, permanently, without regenerating, if it wasn't for the Sisterhood of Karn and their elixir.
He sounds like a dalek with the voice filters removed. If Nick Briggs ever leaves, I think this guy could probably replace him. He's got the hateful paranoia as well.

Loved this and just wanted to say that I have been watching a lot of Doctor Who content on TH-cam in the weeks since Christmas and you are one of my top tier favorites. I got sucked in with your video rating the first Russell T Davies era and well, just thanks for what you do. It's great fun and you have great insights.
This thing about Ncuti's accent "changing" must be doing the rounds of the anti-woke fans, because I had a big argument on that point in someone else's comment section in a review of the episode a couple of months back. I assume it is the case that Ncuti's accent is a mixture of the Scottish accent of where he grew up and the accent his family speaks, so that being the case I can sort of see how someone might hear his voice "changing" with his emotion, similar to how John Barrowman can slip between Scottish and American accent, because he has both of those influences in his life.

Absolutely amazing content mate. As a causal on off fan of DW, it's both sad and amusing seeing how so much of DW content on social media is a circle jerk of bigotry and gatekeeping, but feels like there's a lot of that happening in the last couple years, not just with Dr Who, so its refreshing to watch someone treat the show for what it is; a bit of fun.
And what is it that Capaldi's doctor said? "Always try to be nice, and never fail to be kind." We all need a bit more of that in our lives xo

the "accent slips" thing may have been valid IF he was ever putting on an accent (see: tennant pretending to be english) but... he's not. Ncuti talks in his regular voice the whole time, there's nothing to "slip into".

I agree with your points here however I do think that the bad writing needs to be called out as well as the bigots. On the issue of the Doctor being highly emotional I do think that is wrong because in Classic Who he was never so human with his emotions. When the first Doctor was seen in the Inferno club in the War Machines he looked out of place. Same with the 7th Doctor in Delta and the Bannermen. Then there’s the 11th Doctor who looked comically out of his depth dancing at Rory and Amy’s wedding. I do think they humanised the Doctor too much in modern Who especially with the 10th Doctor flirting and kissing people. Peter Capaldi nailed it with his more stern and alien persona. I don’t think Gatwa is the problem but the writing that will let him down. The Bi-generation was a reckless thing to do because now the bigots are saying the real Doctor has retired and this new Doctor is fake! Why did RTD do that? You get behind your new star and shouldn’t undermine them.
I'd agree with your points about humanising the Doctor too much, but at the same time - this character has existed in their timeline for thousands and thousands of years, character development will happen and each incarnation holds a variety in their personality. But I agree the writing has some bugs to work out, what Russell is pumping is well above Chibnal's though so I'll take it.

The argument from Reaper is that the show is dying because of ratings, which were low because episode is woke and the people not watching it know it's woke because they didn't watch it.
I'm not a fan of Dr Who, never have been, the only thing I'm interested in usually is how it's funded, it being the BBC and so on. Would be interested if anyone knew of content discussing shows and BBC funding, especially in regard to what passes as entertainment on the BBC? Besides this can TH-camrs do more videos detailing the easiest and most effective ways of stopping payments for Television Licences (a licence for tv in this day and age) if we saw this more on the platform we might see some social justice and change.

My theory is that most of these anti-woke Doctor who channels aren’t fans but realize that their may be money to be made by attracting the racist, sexist and homophobic crowd who don’t watched Doctor Who at all. Loads sprang up during the specials last year. If you were a true knowledgeable fan you’d know that the Doctor met Houdini while he was in his third incarnation or at least mentions meeting him in planet of the Spiders. This guy is just a frightened little child who watches social media that tells him all the problems in his life is the fault of the folks who don’t look like him

I cant tell who is more insufferable the guy reviewing the video or the guy in the video being reviewed. Both are arrogantly self righteous but the guy doing the review is particularly egregious. His copious use of strawmen and his readiness to make declarative starements about the views of a person he has presumably never met speak to a lack of creativity and wit. For example calling a person racist for pointing out how the character of the doctor has changed. Last I checked reviews are supposed to be about what happens in a piece of media. Not saying it was a good review because it wasn't but it had myriad real and legitimate flaws that could have been pointed out instead of turning the guy into some racist strawman. Neither of these guys seems all that intelligent or insightful. If this is an example of the stellar intellects the younger generations have to offer God help us all.

However, the message is we are people and respect people for who they are. That is not wrong. Hateful comments does not help towards anything. Every white cis-male straight person struggles with using empathy for the minorities and that is why they are so oblivious to what is going on in the world. "It has always been this way so why change it?" Mentality is used for slavery, patriarchy, and child labor.
Please try to be kind toward what you don't understand. Saying "gay stuff" is hurtful on its own. I agree that the show is worse and it should be terminated, but not because it has "gone woke" or has propaganda. It just has no good stories, characters or even a good Doctor. We, as in "gay stuff" , watch it and cringe as well. Anyways, please educate yourself and stop the hate. I normally wouldn't care but I think some people have potential to be nice.

I think the reason why early 2000s doctor who worked and modern doctor who doesnt work is self awarity, i feel like modern doctor who is trying to be this super serious drama(nothings wrong with drama, but clearly the writters aren't talented enough to make a drama), while early 200s new it was cheesy and it certainly new its place. I also think that trying to make man in a blue box who likes to travel with young girls and fights quirky aliens isn't something you can make into a deep drama.

It’s a fact that the franchise died after the 60th anniversary. The new series with ncuti gatwa is already running into problem with the companion leaving after one series. It’s great that David tenant will always be the greatest dr who ever way better than ncuti gatwa and every other dr who put together.
Rose, Martha, and Donna all left after one series. Bill also only had one series.
