    Dude I just want to thank you, I've seen many tutorials on how to animate an arrow and I always thought it was so silly that something so simple was complicated, but your tutorial is short and effective, perfect!

    If you're trying to center the anchor point and using a Mac whose keyboard doesn't have a home button:
    Step 1: Select “Layer” in your top menu.
    Step 2: Select “Transform” from the dropdown menu.
    Step 3: Select “Center Anchor Point in Layer Content”

      Create a Key Frame before pasting the path, the path will be pasted after that don't forget to auto-orient, there are some changes we have to make in the path it is not perfect to the line sometimes. Hope this is helpful😇

      For me the issue was that I scaled the path to be bigger and thus the path copied was smaller. To avoid this do not scale (or do any transformations with the path) and then apply the arrow head. Precompose both layers together and then you can do the transformations you like

      I will only say that, I imported my paths from Illustrator, and for some reason, when I pasted my path to the position of the arrow head, it didn't snap to the actual position of the path in the composition. Rather, it moved it off canvas but still following the curves. It just set it's starting point way off. Also, I tried doing this to nested "contents" within a layer and had trouble. Does this only work well with paths and elements created directly in AE?

    • @videomarknet
      @videomarknet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeremycowan2696 Paths copy pasted from Illustrator have their own center point. When you create a shape layer from the menu, add a path from the 'add' menu and paste the Illustrator path there it will not offset the path anymore.

    Nice! The only thing I would say in support of using the pickwhip is if you need to edit the path or trim paths value over time, make tweaks, i.e. a client wants you to move something or a designer sends you updated designs or any number of changes you'll have to make gradually, if it's pickwhipped then you just need to change the values on the line, those changes are reflected on the arrow and you don't have to keep copying and pasting the path every time you need to make a change.

    However you have to delete, copy and paste from the beginning whenever you want to make any change on your path. In special cases like preparing templates or cooperative works we may need that a little harder way.

    The only way I can figure out how to move the animated arrow after the fact, is to delete the original path and draw a new one and then copy that path to the position of the triangle.
    Do you have a better method for relocating the arrow?

    • @videomarknet
      @videomarknet  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes as this is the 'easiest' method, it's definitely the most flexible one. In order to tweak the path afterwards, I'd choose a different approach which would need a tutorial o it's own. Again that's why this tutorial is titled 'easiest' method and not 'smartest' method.

    • @jackcampbell1394
      @jackcampbell1394 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I figured it out. You just have to link the path (shape layer 1) as the parent of the arrow head(shape layer 2). Then any position changes to the path bring the arrow head with it, while preserving the animation. Or you can link them both to a common parent layer and move that.@@videomarknet

      @@videomarknet What I found out was that the arrow head had more key frames than the line. They're probably necessary as they turn around the arrow head, but that makes it hard to sync it up with the line. Tried some other things but I found an other effect to replace.
      Thanks for your reply.

      Make sure your playhead is aligned exactly (synced) over the shape's line path STARTING POINT. So shape 1 and shape 2 key frame paths should start at the same point on the timeline.

    M8 I feel so stupid. I've followed your instructions to the letter and yet, I cannot make the triangle move. I have copied the path by using command+C and then i got to position and click command+V and absolutely nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

    • @videomarknet
      @videomarknet  ปีที่แล้ว

      maybe you did draw the arrow into the same shape layer ...in the video you can see it's 2 seperate shape layers. When you paste position in the same shape layer it ....well...shares the same position...nothing happens. Uncheck the first shape layer (the path) before drawing the arrow head (the second path) ...that will create a new seperate shape layer

      just drag the second keyframe to match the timeline position of the original keyframe.

    • @videomarknet
      @videomarknet  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      since no keyframes are set just yet the time span defaults to 2 seconds (60 frames) if your trim path animation is longer you have to adjust the endframe to match. In my case I did operate within 60 frames so it matched automatically.

    This is the easiest solution I have found, but when I wrote the steps out to make sure I didn't leave anything out, it came to 16, including a couple notes. That's a lot of points of potential failure and it speaks to how silly it is that something seemingly so basic should require this many steps. That's on AE, not you, btw. And I'm still facing two issues. 1. arrowhead is visible before line starts moving, and. 2. at the last keyframe the arrowhead turns upside down. I checked the alignment of the keyframes and they match, but for some reason when I choose a longer length for the line drawing (like 4 seconds), it seems to put the pasted keyframes in a 2 second window, so I have to stretch them to match the original four second length.

      Well since we're disecting details on atomic level here obviously....let me reiterate what exactly I said ...quote '2 or 3 clicks, couple of steps' ....you could of course go ahead and count every single thing you do to get there ....including turning on your computer, the monitor and firing up After Effects and end up at 72 'steps' ...OR ...you could understand it as 'relevant steps' which is a) creating a trim path and b) pasting that arrowhead onto that path. Then we're much closer to what I actually said. To answer your question ....in order to keep these tutorials as short as possible I have to assume some basics are clear ...like work area, trim path etc. ...I've had people complain about tutorials of 90 seconds (yes 1,5 minutes!) being way too long for their taste. So explaining every little thing along the way didn't work as good as actually targetting specific tasks (like animate an arrow).
