Hey man I found your channel by researching ice camping ideas. I absolutely love how you put your videos together. You seem so genuine and I learn a lot from you already. I listen to your live streams at work for more info. Thank you for your dedication to quality fishing and filming. I film with 2 cams and I understand how much work it is to go through all the footage and edit it. You are the main ice fishing content that I watch now.
Clayton, learning a ton from your vids, thanks. Also loved the safety vid with the CO monitors, Great job! Im sure you showed a lot of guys the dangers of heaters in shacks. L73
Watching you catch those perch made me feel like a kid again. Sometimes it is just fun to feel the rod bend. Especially on ultra light! Great video as always bud!
I was recently watching a national broadcast of a big name fisherman and he seemed to be having more fun watching the rod bend than actually catching the fish! I don’t blame him, I’m the same way!😇😇😇
Your content never disappoints avid video viewer here and have to say love the details you provide without being a encyclopedia keep up the great work its great content and very enjoyable 😎👍
From the UK 🇬🇧 found your channel love what u said about releasing 12inchers here the only freshwater fish English people eat is trout n salmon we have zander perch pike and some Wells catfish that have been illegally stocked into some rivers and lakes ... love it! Our Eastern European friends eat pike and zander but our rivers our dirty hence why English people only really eat trout salmon and most sea fish
Actually returning from a trip to Lake Cascade and they actually said to keep the bigger perch as they will eat a ton of the small perch, but there is a time and place to protect the trophies and to always practice ethical catch and release!
That's a pretty amazing fishery. Always makes me chuckle a bit when people hound you to come south of the border and fish when you have these opportunities up there
Perch have short life span we see that in the Dakotas alot. I also feel the same way to I don't keep much perch over 12. And i don't keep 20 for a limit. Wish limit was lower
Man you’re making me want to get out fishing, been studying, dad duties, bought a house. Hope your holidays were great and the new year brings you great health and good fishing 😁🙏🏻
Hey Clayton, thanks for the video with Jumbo Perch! They are my obsession (I catch some toads on my channel). TH-cam related question for you. Which Category do you put your videos in when uploading? I can't seem to find a perfect fit for the outdoor/fishing videos we create. Thanks for any advice to a startup channel!
Someday when I grow up I'll be able to catch fish like Clayton. Too bad I'm already 35. 🤣 ... At least I can watch someone catch fish like this! Love the content Clayton! 🤘
Hey Clayton, I appreciate all the fishing wisdom you share and love taking the things I’ve learned from your videos and using them out on the ice! I would love to know if you have a preference in minnow species (fathead chub, shiner, rainbow, sucker etc…) when setting a dead stick or active bait? Thank-you!
Hey Clayton! Little question. Is it better to setup for ice camping on the shallower end of a drop off or the deeper end for catching walleye overnight?
Question Clayton - using live meal worms on a barbless hook, you don't use a bait button to keep them on? Do you have a problem with them wiggling off?
Hey Clayton been a fan for a long time now, was just curious how you keep your fish finder charged out on the ice when you're overnight camping. I run the helix 7 hummingbird with a Dakota Lithium 15ah battery, it will get me through a day and a half, but that second day I'm having to conserve battery life. Do you just use a bigger ah battery or do you have an inverter to charge your things as well?
Reduce your brightness. It makes a huge difference. If I’m in a shack I keep it as low as I can comfortably see it. Outside I find 8 is still bright enough.
Hey Clayton, what table do you have your electronics on? I’ve been trying to find something to put mine on but it’s all been very unstable so far. Love the videos!
@Clayton Schick Outdoors I was going to grab the feather duster myself... I like the longer rods. However, when I logged onto the website I saw the new 34" Mr. Noodle. I ended up going with the Noodle instead since I have the Pantastick already as well as a bunch of their various medium light rods. Have you used the Mr. Noodle yet? Might be too new but thought I'd ask!
Just found your channel. I have to tell you. It's extremely hard to get me to hang around/enjoy most of the you tube stuff due to childish content. You my friend have gotten me to subscribe and absolutely LOVE your content! GREAT JOB!!!
I like the idea of the bump board for a rod holder I may have to do that haha! Interested in seeing some Livescope footage when you end up getting it in comparison 👍🏼
Yeah Cascade Lake is interesting. Unique lake with a new population of perch. I spoke with the conservation officers down there and read the test netting biology stuff. Basically they're saying the percentage of perch being caught by anglers is so small that the majority are dying of age related or natural causes. The conservation officer said if they felt they could maintain the quality of fishery with specific regulations or limits they would. But they feel it's important to remove some of the big perch cause they heavily predate on the young perch as well. So the future generations get hammered by the parents. Complex fishery, quite different from most of the perch fisheries I've fished in Canada. Fun place to fish, was thinking of going back this year but might go to Montana Flathead lake instead.
I don’t buy it… just because he’s a conservation officer doesn’t mean he knows about the fish biological status of the lake. You take out all the big genetics in a lake you will never grow trophy fish. That’s a fact.
@@ClaytonSchickOutdoors this was not just from him I also read the yearly test netting and population structure from the Biologists report on the lake, i agree conservation officers don't know all on fish biology. You have to also realize a lot of the perch at cascade are caught quite deep, like 25 to 40 feet deep. So like you said in your video several times if you were fishing deeper you would keep them. I also don't believe your statement about trophy genetics when it comes to perch. Cascade was restocked with perch from a lake full of small stunted perch and it resulted in giant perch. Environmental growth conditions, age class, population, predation seems to have a substantial impact on growing large perch. Plus keeping a 17 inch perch does not remove its genetics from the lake. Genetics are constant. So that 17 perch maybe 15 plus years old. They start spawning around 3 to 4 years old. So for 10 plus years that fish with the same genetics to get to 17 inch has been dumped likely 500K to 1 million eggs into the lake. So the genetics stay in the lake, but I think the environmental, predation and pressure factors are more important for big perch. As long as they manage the pike minnow population the lake seems to continue to grow big perch. It's a beautiful lake, you should go check it out.
@@ClaytonSchickOutdoors I think it's a tougher lake to fish than most people think so the actual pressure is quite low. Some guys go and fish all week and catch nothing. I'm sure if it had more pressure they'd vanish quicker since there is No Limit. But for the size of lake the actual effective fishing hours is limitted. It may be worse now, I haven't been back since start of the propaganda.
Man that was a biggen would you ever come to Wyoming and fish for catfish, crappie, bass, perch, walleye, kokenee, cutthroats rainbow trout brown trout, pike, tiger muskie, and mountain whitefish?
