Your attention to camera angles, your want to produce quality, and your ability to catch big fish of all species is why this has become the best TH-cam fishing channel out there.
I’ve found myself liking the videos during the ads before the video even starts, Clayton you’re always putting up quality videos! This will be my first year ice fishing @ 33 yrs old. Your videos have got me super excited to start this new sport. Keep ‘em’ coming!
You motivate me man. My wife and I watch you and my wife doesn’t go fishing with me all that much but she gets the just of what I do out there and you just prove to her how much work fishing actually is.
This is funny my wife always has some crack about that's what you get for having fun if I complain about being tired after a long day on the ice. Now that I am watching most of my youtube on the 65 inch tv she has started to watch along with me.
I like this video. It shows just how these walleye can tease you or just straight up lead you on and swim away. Super frustrating but it shows if it can happen to an angler like Clay it can happen to anyone.
I've been eating mountain house meals backpacking for years now. some are better than others, but they have been out for a long time weird that you are "discovering" them like a decade late. major tip for them is just eat them out of the bag with a long handled spoon.
Love ur vids! I got the finicky foolers a few years ago and added the Blue Tipz to them ...awesome setup when fishing inside a shack. Keep the vids coming can't get enough.
For meals Clayton try micalinas, you can get them at most grocery stores and you boil them in a pot of water. I've been using them for years in Algonquin park hope this helps , try a few at home b4 you go camping or fishing 🎣 lm a hour from the Bay of Quinte, when you coming to try it through the ice 🧊 And remember a bad day on the lake is still better than a good day at work lol
Greetings, fellow Manitoban! That rod holder/table you have mounted on the inside wall of your pop-up tent. Would you mind telling me where you got that and what it's called? Also, you can skip the paper plates with those mountain house freeze-dried meals. Get yourself a long handled titanium spoon off eBay for about $6.00 shipped. Beats overpaying for one at REI or Cabelas. Then you can easily eat out of those bags.
53 minutes ago Mr Schick drops day 2 and makes life here in Northern Ontario, with no ice but still negative 15 and wind gusts of up to 80km being heard a whole Lot better 👍…
Thanks for the video. What I have found with the freeze dried meals is that you have to leave it set in the hot water for at least 10-15 minutes longer than the directions say. I once ran into an old backpacker who hated extra weight but would carry a thermos so he could make his meals in it and let them cook for a couple or three hours before eating. We don’t get much ice, sometimes none at all, down here in southern Ohio. Your videos are still great entertainment and I use your same techniques for fishing in cold open water. I never would have caught those lake trout, in Michigan, I sent you pictures of without copying your trout techniques. Thanks!
Love it. Man that’s frustrating some times. I’m starting to wonder if the walleyes are starting to learn out habits Ha ha. Great vid. Can’t wait for day 3
I miss the days with both my kids , bbq ,snowball fights and building igloos all while fishing what fun. And yes we caught but if we didn't we had a great meal and a great time
Thanks Clayton, I was wondering what kind of tip up that was from your Day 4 Game of Inches episode. I just ordered some of the finicky foolers, I really like how simple it is and doesn’t require the addition of a slip stop or bobber stopper. Can’t wait for the ice season to try them out!
The hook setting version of the finicky fooler is also great if you haven't tried them! When you put the line around the trigger it creates a bit of slack line which allows the rod to travel a few inches before making contact with the fish. On top of that they are still less expensive than the jaw jackers, can be set up the non hook setting way, and are just as compact as the original version.
First ice day is very soon here...glad you keep this stuff coming. Lots of good info and big fish to tide us over until the ice is ready. Keep them coming!!
Mountain House meals are a game changer for ice fishing or backcountry camping! Look into a jet boil for boiling the water. They're nice and compact. My two favorites are Pad Thai and Yellow Curry. Keep up the good work Clayton!
Started running two finicky foolers last year as well. Very pleased with the size and adaptability. One downside is they don't like to cooperate in stronger winds. Bought a flat piece of plastic to stick in the slush as a shield and haven't had problems since
Not sure if someone has already commented on the Freeze Dried/dehydrated meals, but I live in Montana and back country hunt a ton. Investing in a Jetboil makes these meals super easy to cook. Your cooker does a good job it looks like but a Jetboil is a little more compact and user friendly. I've never had a problem with my Jetboil in the cold. The best meals are the beef stroganoff, Chicken Alfredo, and chili mac. In my opinion of course, but i would avoid the ones with eggs in them they seem to be a little slimy and weird texture. Love the videos man!
The Mountain house meals are great, the sweet and sour rice and pork is one of my favourites. The breakfast skillets are also really good. Buy them all the time from Princess Auto.
I own a freeze dryer and make my own meals, little pricey to get one but I love it. You can make exactly what you like and freeze dry it and prepare in min on the ice, boat or when hunting, hiking etc.
A friend of mine from the NWT brought me a lake trout a couple of weeks ago. I went to make it last night with some spicy catch and cook and it smelled soooo good when I was cooking it and then I tried to eat it and the fish tasted rancid.. I was SOO UPSET! so now I REALLY can't wait to get out ice fishing and catch me some walleye and have FRESH FISH with the spicy Catch and Cook!
Thanks for the content Clayton! So cool, I can't wait to camp on the ice myself. It's not always about catching the biggest fish, I learned a lot from this series.
Went out on the ice for the first time today then promptly slipped and knocked myself out with a nice concussion. Your videos are going to definitely be enough to satiate my need to fish while I recover.
I love to see how happy Clayton get about fishing every single time. It’s good to see people with true heart. I can’t wait to get out with my daughters and teach them.
Morning clayton...just packing up to head out for rainbow/brookie/burbot...new insulated shack will be here Monday...then ice camping here I come...was going to sell old 4 man shack...but now after watching you I'm keeping it for run and gun while ice camping....THANKS BUD from my slowly warming (it going to be a toasty -17 here today) igloo on the mountain D.
I love to see you using a finicky fooler as opposed to the iFish bro millennial gen z fishing device. Been using finicky foolers for years great product great company. Thanks for showcasing them.
Great stuff Clayton! We own a Polaris dealership here in Ontario, you should pop into your local dealership and see if they would hook you up with a windshield for that bad boy! Would also love to see you link up with seabass outdooors and do a Lake Simcoe trip! Cheers man!
Try some Heather’s Choice dehydrated backpacking meals. They tend to sit better on my stomach compared to other freeze dried brands like Mountain House. Heather’s Choice meals have good flavor and they’re smaller, made for single servings as compared to two. It’s also made in Alaska!
Diggin the setup 🤙Looking to get out here soon in my neck of the woods. Deer tags are filled as well as the freezer. Preparing for the ice fishing season!!
I had a day on Star last week like this. Walked out about a km, found a nice basin full of crappie on livescope, nailed 2 before we even set up, one more after, then they just turned right off but still came and checked out the arsenal we threw at 'em. They'd rush in just to have a staring contest with our bait lol
Enjoyed the series very much! You gave me some good ideas! Wanted to thank you for signing a hat at the Winnipeg ice fishing show for me! I'm from Wisconsin and my good friend Blair from "The Wild North Of Netley gave it to me as a Christmas gift! Love your channel and love fishing MB!
I'm guessing the weight of the spoon is anchoring the lure and preventing the walleye's normal suction from working. Have you tried the lightest size spoon?
Hey man love your content always catching huge fish man you should come ice fish down here in Wyoming or Montana big ol lake trout and big ol walleye and catfish
Great video Clayton🤘 Any day out fishing is a success❤ big fish, small fish...they all count❣ Fish definitely get in there own moods..lol. There are always highs and lows with fishin so Dont be hard on yourself, we get it🫂🤘 fish bite when THEY want to bite🎣😊🤘
Great video as always! Would love to see how your working that new scissor kick bait from frostbite… or even just a reply on how you work it lol… gonna give it a shot as a secret weapon this year when my normal stuff isn’t working!
The only thing I didn't see you try during the day was up sizing your lure. Conventional wisdom says to downsize when the fish are finicky but I've had a ton of success up sizing for finicky walleye and perch.
What more can a guy say, you’re videos Clayton are some of the best videos out there Keep doing what you’re doing. Hoping to be on the ice before Xmas. Take care.
I haven’t ice fished for walleyes alot but if it’s like perch fishing, u moving ya bait to much ur none stop moving it, let it sit there in front of there face then give it the most subtle flick and they will hammer it everytime, also great ice fishing bait it perch eyes slap 1 or two on a dinner bell or just a little jig head they go crazy for it idk what it is, the shimmer in the eye the smell idk they love fish eyes
Another great video Clayton 👍👍 Those walleye were very finicky. Reminds me of my home lake and the frustration we go through. That walleye dish you cooked up had me drooling 😂 Looking forward to the next one. Maybe the walleye will be a little more cooperative 😂
Man the way those walleyes were acting was crazy; hungry, charge right up to it then barely even attempt to eat it. Underwater camera is 100x better than any sonar, and more fun to watch, even though the sonar is 1st priority and necessary. I kept thinking maybe a tiny bug sized jig might make them eat? Tough to say. Thanks for taking us with you!
Yes and as is Peak Refuel meals...which I prefer over all others also have much less sodium. Plus Peak Refuel has a couple with elk and bison....very delicious.
@@jamesknightiv9944 Yeah, the sodium isn't as bad if you are active all day hiking or hunting or whatever in the mountains but for more sedentary activities, there are better options. Plus, with a food dehydrator, you can make some of your own meals pretty easily. I made spaghetti for myself that came out great.
I've had times where the bites super finicky and I've had success with just leaving a dead stick with a minnow resting on bottom for whatever reason sometimes it works
If you had to pick 1 rod for in shanty targeting pike ( are pike aren’t huge) walleye and lake trout what would it be I’m looking to spoil myself with a nice rod for this season
Clayton you should look into peak refuel it is another brand of freeze dried meals. There is way less sodium. I find they generally taste better. I use all those brands for backpacking to alpine lakes for cutthroat and golden trout. And those are definitely better then your canned food since you always cook in the can. Lol
The walleye will come if you eat the right Mountain House meal…beef stroganoff with noodles. I’ve had all brands and about every meal and the Mountain House Beef Stroganoff with noodles has been my go to for 15+ years. If you eat it they will come.
Great video Clayton, the continent about camping on the ice is great! I I have a question: how do you keep your braid from freezing up on your reels outside of the hut? I’ve always had problems with that and it pretty much causes me to use mono only.

Means a lot!!!
Clayton and Jay definitely have the best fishing content. I can't decide who I like more
Easily the best. And the information you get from Clayton is un matched.
And he even responds to his comments. He’s a real person. Thanks Clayton.
@@derekdebois8297 try my hardest…. I miss so many and feel bad for it too

You don’t know how much I enjoy these early morning videos with my coffee in hand watching some icefishing!
I'll be watching all your videos now. Enjoy how relatable you are and by far one of the best fishing channels around.
Yep I always look forward to CSO, thx for all your hard work Clayton from all of us that are less fortunate
Love eating breakfast while watching Clayton
So glad I watched these videos. Was struggling for a Christmas gift for my dad but that bucket seat will be perfect!

Camping with Clayton. Love it. Thanks for sharing the hi and low of fishing. Walleye took some patience huh?
Goodness, such an early morning upload. Waiting for my ride to head out on the ice at the moment
I like this video. It shows just how these walleye can tease you or just straight up lead you on and swim away. Super frustrating but it shows if it can happen to an angler like Clay it can happen to anyone.
Love your stuff clayton, cant wait to see what else you have in store for us this winter you have some big fish up there.
Oh, man! That walleye dish looks amazing! I'm always entertained and learn something new in each video. Thank you kind sir 👍👍
Your on the water cooking skills are top notch!!!
That is pretty much how every experience I have had with walleye... They can be frustrating

I agree with scouting 100% what is not productive in the summer may be the spot in the winter. Great series as usual. 👍
Love ur vids!
I got the finicky foolers a few years ago and added the Blue Tipz to them ...awesome setup when fishing inside a shack.

Getcha the long plastic spoon with carabiner hook. Makes those freeze dried meals the whip. Get'm Clayton!
Really like the Rod holder/shelf setup you got on in there!
Nothing better than sitting on the ice watching your videos slaying, Croppie's and perch, central Wisconsin. Keep up the great work love the videos.
Those finicky foolers are the best and they also have a hook settling attachment great for burbot and trout!!!

man i bet those finiky walleye would have eaten if you gave them a panfish presentation and got it down to 1/16oz or less.
Mountain house chili Mac, spaghetti, and chicken Al a king all good!

What the pike thinks:
"Whoop, nope, whoop, nope, nope, whoop, nope, whoop, yeaahhaha-... nope..!"

I've eatn lots of MREs in the fish house the mountain brand is really good eggs n some fruit can b tough to rehydrate n don't taste the best
