I started keeping chicken while in high-school..unfortunately they all died...then the zeal for poultry farming died..currently I'm in campus and watching your videos has brought back my passion..hopefully I'll finally do it after I'm done with my studies and it will go well
Hi Doctor, you mentioned in your video on how reading medicine helped you become a good farmer that it helped you read a lot of books. Will be glad if you can make a video on "must read" books for a beginner farmer.
Nice to see your update. Thanks for sharing. It certainly is an inspiration for those going into similar business. As a side note, when I was back home in Ethiopia, we used to use used motor oil from local automotive services and pure it underneath the wooden posts to keep termites away. We even paint the bottom of the post before construction, pure few cups in the hole and stick the wooden post in the ground. If I remember correctly, it helped. Local automotive service in towns often dump used motor oil or burn it, but you may try to collect some and run a test in case it helps. Motor oil also last for long in place where you pure them since it is insoluble, but make sure you keep away from possible ground water. As long as you do not use too much that can sink into the aquafer or well water source, you should be fine. Termites used to take down our houses, grain barns, and fences in a single year, and it was terrible.
Such a lage surface area of iron sheet roof of all the buildings put together, makes it very potential to harvest a lot of rain water for use almost all year around.
Hi Dr Daniel. Thanks for this video. Am preparing to build my first chicken house for layer. Deep litter system. What's the reason for your chicken house being 12 feet high? What the minimum height you recommend for the structures?
Am grateful for the information you give us now my question is if am starting poutry shd I consider buying a bigger land in the village or I get small land in kampala ...thnx doc
I'm from Somalia. People in this area who engage in poultry farming often express concerns about snakes. Are snakes present in Uganda poultry farms? and if so, how do you manage to prevent encounters with them?
Thank you Daniel for the information. are you able to provide copy of the architecture on paper for each of the chicken houses? I have 20 acre land in Liberia and I wan to start constructing my chicken house for 3000 layer.
Hii Dr Daniel! am from Pakistan and there is too much hot climate here. I have a flock of 20k Lohman black its an brown layer breed actually We are thinking about building our own shed so if we use iron sheets for roof so isn't it absorbs more heat and makes trouble? in your vedios it seems like you have a cool climate. kindly please guide me.
I think you should try and ensure your chicken house is more ventilated than the normal ones. Then research on how other farmers have tried to cub the problem
What A good work bro, I am graduated on Forestry, but bro I went to start poultry work, you know now I haven't money to start, can help me, I need 1000 dollars.
