Yup yup, same here I too started in 7th grade and was considered an outcast. But I pushed on and do it to this very day . When I was in high school it became a trend so I fit in. And today (20 plus years later) the girls still love it.
Morrissey's rockabilly band really come together on this version of the song, unlike during some of the early live performances I saw. Love "Pregnant For the Last Time" too.
I saw them quite early in this incarnation and from the perspective of someone who was far more familiar with the band's various projects than Morrissey's I'd say their only weakness was toning down their act to suit him. Agreed on their two standout recorded tracks, Joe. Oddly enough, both songs incorporate the same drum beat but what I like about 'Pregnant' is the refrain with the lyrical tag, "then you see someone new and you want someone new ..." (or similar) - and the band launch into a few bars of real, actual rockabilly.
Great production on this. The band sounds very tight and Morrissey on form with the vocals. Would have been good to have seen Morrissey during the early nineties being able to effortlessly drop out a high quality performance like this.
I saw him. Must say he lost me when he refused to come back onstage after someone “rushed” the stage at a concert at Pauley Pavilion at UCLA. What a ripoff.
Saw him at Hollywood Bowl, 1992 (Your Arsenal Tour) which sold out in record time. His habit of throwing his gold lamé shirt out into the crowd at the time... I don't know which of his concerts was the best that I attended, but that era was my favorite. Also, no kidding there were Latinx grandma's, 3 year olds, and everything else in between at this concert!
I believe this was recorded here in Los Angeles at KROQ...when they would play great music ..class of 1990 so I remember the 80s and this was great music 🎶

the late Benjamin Lo-Fi was standing in the corner as they recorded this, waiting with cheese on toast for the band...we are still unearthing songs by Benjamin, and posting them up as and when...have a look if you're bored enough...
I agree. I listened to the other version yesterday and I thought ugh how could I have liked it so long ago. Woke up with the song on my head today and listened to this version which is better.
I love the live in Dallas version on DVD, awesome my best live concert, the rock-ability and somewhat psychobilly too, maybe he did not sell enough DVD's as it was not his old Smith's style, this is what I heard not enough Smiths sad, that's why he abended the rockabilly and psychobilly style? Who knows, just the rockabilly and psychobilly was the the best you ever did but would like what I like from now, Spent a day in bed is not uplifting is it, go back to your old school roots stuff and put a smile on us as you Morrissey.
Bout fuckin time i found this video. There used to be a video with a black n white pic of Morrissey that said "hard rockabilly version" in the description but it was removed. I love this version
very unpopular opinion, but morrisseys solo music will always be better than the smiths. very interesting sounds..mixing the indie rock sound with the classic crooner feel..too good.
I agree. The worst thing with the Smiths is the bad production on much of their catalogue. I like most Smiths stuff, and most of the solo stuff too. The production of Kill Uncle was plain weird, bad, creepy bloodless.
I am sorry, but to compare these dudes to Johnny Marr is insane. Morrissey was good solo, but the songwriting by The Smiths is some of the best in the history of music.
Well, this lot are certainly the best band he's had behind him. Best rhythm section, best guitarist - the only weakness is toning down their act to suit Morrissey. And you don't have to make excuses for stating your opinion; it could be unique to you but it's still worth ten thousand of any other opinion.
We shook hands Oregon, Morrissey and I. It was cool. My girl got mad because she wanted to take a pic of the moment. She waited in pose for what seemed like an eternity, and when I finally shook his hand, she had broken pose and was no longer camera ready. But I still posed toward the camera I thought she was still pointing at me. Instead of a lens staring me in my mug, I lock eyes with frustration. 😂😂😂 she was upset on the ride home. She cute.
fuck yah this is the wole reason how i got introduced to rockabilly!! in 1991!! aside from that top 40 fifties shit!! and then i discoverved Boz Boorer who played in bands like Boz and he Bozmen, same with Alan White in the planet rockers!!! and now 10 years later im slappn dog house just like Gary Day!!!
Alan White would have been quite a late addition to the Planet Rockers, they must have been touring Europe when he was still at school. His first band, I think, were the Rugcutters - also featuring Boz in his first post-Polecats excursion. There's a couple of uploads of their songs on here. Keep on rockin', Felix.
Right!!!! I used to think the same!!!! My personal opinion it was the talented Alain Whyte that was the magic behind Morrissey's solo career and rockabilly sound!

It is a particular live version. This one was recorded at KROQ here in Los Angeles. In my opinion, this is the best version of this song.

Yes, I agree. This is the one I remember.
Urei Mixer L.A. I loved listening to Richard Blade at noon.
Yes!!!! 100% agreed. It’s the best version
When I was in Grade 9 I rolled up my jeans and wore rockabilly hair. This was in Saskatchewan. Morrissey is the Best
Jack Sandberg Me too!
Although, I started in 7th Grade, people said it was 50’s weird looking. But, later thought it was cool 😎

Still a greaseball. Once and always
"Rockabilly" My favorite version of this song
Sylvia Preciado absolutely love the back beat
Listen to this live on KROQ in Los Angeles, CA. Greatest live version
I wish the entire Kill Uncle album was re-recorded Rockabilly style
How is he sitting up the stairs ..and looking comfortably doing it? lol #MozisGod
You’ve never seen Escher?
Dude, it’s MORRISSEY, of course he looks comfy on steps
So much respect for my life in 94

Awww Tower Records!!!!
Can`t beat the ROCKABILLY beat!!!

The best version of this song. ❤💯👍👍

I saw him. Must say he lost me when he refused to come back onstage after someone “rushed” the stage at a concert at Pauley Pavilion at UCLA. What a ripoff.
His bands are good. This song, conversely, is an atonal half-baked piece of shit. A singer sliding by on his reputation.
Saw him at Hollywood Bowl, 1992 (Your Arsenal Tour) which sold out in record time. His habit of throwing his gold lamé shirt out into the crowd at the time... This was my 1st of many many shows. That was the best tour in my opinion, 1991 US Tour....th-cam.com/video/MrqGB4AD8a8/w-d-xo.html

There is no accounting for taste. This is a half-baked of shit. Morrissey sliding by on his reputation.

Sing your life
Any fool can think of words that rhyme
Many others do
Why don't you?
Do you want to?
Oh...
Sing your life
Walk right up to the microphone
And name
All the things you love
All the things that you loathe

The things that you love
And the things you loathe
Oh, sing your life
Oh, sing your life
La, la-la, la-la, sing your life
La, la-la, la-la, sing your life
Others sang your life
But now is a chance to shine
And have the pleasure of
Saying what you mean
Have the pleasure of
Meaning what you sing
Oh, make no mistake my friend
All of this will end
So sing it now (sing your life)
All the things you love (sing your life)
All the things you loathe

Unspeakable session musician shite! This comment is hawked all the way from Davyhulme and Moz would agree I guess knowingly
Lmao couldn't say it better. Instant God mode.
Such a happy-making song

Ahhhh When KROQ was the people’s station….now it sucks …….
I often wonder if songs like this one, There is a Place, and King Leer were recorded in this fashion and placed on Kill Uncle.
There's smart, and then there's genius.
