Kids need to see more friendships like this. Especially boys. You can be super close to your guy friends and love them without it defining your sexuality. Men in general need to cultivate close male friendships where you actually discuss real things with each other/hug/cry/workout, and everything in between.
In Italy it was like that until other cultures came into our lives. I'm not saying we don't do it anymore but some guys are "afraid" that people can judge them only because they're hugging their best friends. I remember in the past even old people hug each other like Luca and Alberto did at the train scene, crying like that because their friends were going away for a while or forever. But hey that's the power of love, no matter if it's friendship or not, it's your feelings, it's normal to feel like that with everyone you care about. People should be more open with their hearts, it helps to be more relaxed in life.
You are so right about the soundtrack in Luca, I think it’s an underrated masterpiece… and that’s fitting because there whole film is a masterpiece that can be read in many ways. Love your reaction to it!!!
Watched this randomly after it had been out for a bit completely missing it’s release. It had me SOBBING into my cat. Such a good one. I appreciate your genuine reaction and being REAL with us. Loved it!
This movie didn’t make me cry as much as you made me cry ! 😂 I love how you live your emotions truly, it’s so nice to see and you have such a beautiful smile and joyous laugh ☺️💛
The editing you do is phenomenal, better than any other reaction channel and the reactions you have are so genuine and make it feel like I’m experiencing the movie all over again. Much love Mellverse!
Besides for you being open enough to express yourself on camera, I really appreciate the enthusiasm for the details in the art and music too. It’s one thing to react to the story and its beats, but you acknowledge there’s a whole team behind EVERYTHING and every detail deserves its props. It’s really refreshing
After two viewings, Luca became my favorite Pixar movie (I’ve now seen it over 20 times). The way the characters were written and portrayed as well as the themes and messages really spoke to me. For example, Giulia’s family situation (split family and feeling like an outsider in a different city when going to visit your other parent) and how it was treated by not making it a big deal like it is in so many pieces of media. This is something I’ve basically been dealing with for my entire life and it felt nice to have it be recognized that not all families are perfect but that just because they’re not doesn’t mean they can’t work. Luca’s curiosity and drive to learn more about the world around him also really resonated with me. And I see him in the end going to stay in the human world while balancing and accepting his differences as a loose metaphor for immigration. My mom and dad are German immigrants to the U.S and my step mom is a Colombian immigrant and they all still have lots of family in their respective countries. While I’m in the U.S and have to figure how to balance my cultural heritage and family with the ideas and culture of where I live. I was also kind of the outsider/weird kid in school too and the trio friendship setup is almost the same with the friends I had in grade school (and still friends to this day) so it was nice to remember that. The movie’s way of portraying acceptance and talking about it also helped me to do some introspection of myself and helped me to acknowledge and accept the fact that I’m asexual. Luca may be a simple movie plot wise but the profound way it has affected me and the time it’s come at the end of a major cycle of personal growth (graduating high school, starting college, reconnecting with my mom’s side of the family and restoring a line of communication that had been broken for almost 15 years, losing several friends and family members, surviving a pandemic) has solidified it as one of my favorite movies of all time.
So here's why I feel why the LGBT community has adapted this film as a coming of age tale with LGBT themes... The friendship between Luca and Alberto can be seen as someone's first crush. The whole "transformation" from sea monster to human can be an allegory to being in the closet, or how heterosexual people see LGBT people as (as monsters). When Alberto's "jealousy" hits an all time high, he "comes out" as a sea monster and hopes Luca will join him. Luca, still unsure how society will see him, decides to remain "hidden". There's a lot more I can go in depth. As a gay man myself, I definitely relate to this film cause it did bring memories of my first crush. Do I believe this film is about an LGBT relationship? No, but I think the film is done so well to the point anyone can interpret it in any way and still have it as impactful from on perspective to the next.
Have you read Pixar’s public letter to Bob Chapek? They said they made a coming of age film that was canonically LGBT. And Disney stepped in and removed everything, leaving only the queer coding and unrecognizable. It’s heavily believed that they’re talking about this movie cause this is one of the couple of Pixar films made under Chapek.
@@distantnative2478 im sorry you cant see more to a story than what is explicitly told. no ones saying it is lgbt, no ones saying YOU have to see it as lgbt, theyre just talking about how it personally resonated with them. gay kids exist too and a film about being able to find a family that loves you, even when it can be dangerous to be yourself, might show them theres a light at the end of the tunnel.

Afterall Best friends can become romantic be they gay, straight, or whatever too. Julia and her dad are amazingly written and great characters The parents are great and it shows how much they care but don't understand... Etc. I also really like the film's use of art style, character design and facial animation, writing and character development.
my personal headcanon is that Alberto's deadbeat dad was named Bruno, which is why Alberto says "Silencio, Bruno" Edit: Also, fun fact, Uncle Ugo is played by Sacha Baron Cohen aka Borat
This will always be one of my favorite Pixar movies. My brother named my nephew after this movie because of how much he and his girlfriend loved it, and this is the first movie they saw together. Love my little Luca bear
I believe the reason this movie hits so hard no matter who you are, but especially people like me who are LGBT. Is that in the end is it is about self-affirmation and others accepting you for who you are. Now other movies do that sure, have people act or perhaps look strange, but in the end those can be changed, and are frequently on the surface level. But with Luca it is immutable, it is literally a part of their being but was something that they had felt compelled to hide due to societal stigma. In the end they are able to be their true selves inside and out, and straight, gay, cis, trans, ace or whoever you are, that is an incredibly powerful and uplifting feeling.

One thing Pixar has over franchise like marvel and Star Wars is that they know how to build a beautiful, well thought story to get u invested to whew by the end of the movie the characters somewhat feel like close friends or family to where if anything happens to them it affects u emotionally
I was the exact same when I first watched this film, even watching this reaction had me crying. There are just so many amazing themes and everything is handled so well, it's a beautiful film.
It's so easy to get emotional during this film, from how beautifully they animate the way Luca looks at life on land to his family's acceptance and his departure from Alberto. I also went into this movie thinking it wasn't going to hit me like other films, but I fell in love with the nostalgia and the relationships on screen. Loved this reaction so much, thank you for not holding back :)
Hi Mellverse. Looking forward to your reaction to this movie its going to play with your heart. It made me nostalgic for my childhood. How friendships grew and then grew apart bittersweet. 💕
I don't think anyone else reacting to this ever went to watch the little Alberto one so this is refreshing to see, every time I hope to see someone watch that too but it's not long enough for it's own reaction so...
I have only watched this twice. I ugly sobbed the first time this is technically the second..it happened again. The mom hugging him before he leaves for school is what always starts it for me.
This movie put you THROUGH it lol I don’t blame you it made me emotional too, it’s a beautiful coming age movie about two friends and Alberto learning that he shouldn’t be selfish and hold Luca back from wanting to go to school even though he’ll be very sad while he’s away
Mell is literally me, tho I just cry inside. Despite the heartfelt story, it was mostly the music that made me so gosh dang emotional. The feeling is so indescribable.

Even though these kids totally read as queercoded characters, I'm glad they kind of left it up to interpretation in the sense that as they get older their connection could either remain as a queerplatonic relationship, or shift into another type of relationship (romantic, sexual, sensual, etc.) because this allows everyone on the Aro/Ace spectrum to relate to these characters as well. Not every love story is romantic or sexual, platonic love can run just as deep and so can familial love. I doubt that was WHY Pixar kept it to a queerplatonic relationship, but even if this wasn't their motivation for the choice, it still ended up providing a type of representation that is rare and beautiful. One where we ALL feel represented. Encanto achieved the same thing, so maybe that is the direction we can expect to see Disney/Pixar go with their movies which would be so awesome! When everyone has a chance to be heard... No one has to yell ❤
For me, the most interesting part is Gulia. Her presence in the movie is largely unnecessary plot-wise. Story-wise, sure, but her purpose in the movie could have easily been replaced. Except for one part. As a foil to Alberto for Luca's attention. In other words, her most essential role in the movie is to create a relationship triangle, something that is usually reserved for romantic leads. Make of that what you will. Also, the final song is about two lovers sad because they are being split apart.
If I had to guess, I think people (myself included though I'm trying not to) looked at Luca's and Turning Red's animation on the posters and since the characters aren't as realistic looking as many of their other movies, instead looking more like 3D animated cartoons, people assumed that meant that somehow less thought and care went into the movies because of the more "simplistic" character design. But I've learned that I actually prefer this kind of 3D animation, since I've realized I think it's a little boring to just make everything look "realistic" - then make live action movies!!! That's just a theory though, but it definitely was like that for me
Pixar is so great at creating stories that make the audience become emotionally invested!! I cry during so many of their movies. "why the hell, does my name sound like Jonny Knoxville to you?! Hell no I'm not doing that" I love it I'm going to use that next time my friend wants me to do something stupid 😂
I think I know why Alberto says “silencio Bruno” and uses the name Bruno as a metaphor for the voice in your head that says you can’t do it. I think that Bruno was the name of his dad.

I cry everytime!!! The music, the story oh it's beautiful and Mell you didn't help with your crying and I'm crying too!!!
The one armed dude reminds me of flints dad in cloudy with a chance of meatballs
I think I know why Alberto says “silencio Bruno” and uses the name Bruno as a metaphor for the voice in your head that says you can’t do it. I think that Bruno was the name of his dad.
It’s okay mell. I’ve watched slot of people cry watching this and coco. It’s okay to cry. That is me with watching perks of being a wallflower everytime.
11:53, when you said that, I thought of Flints dad, from Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs... I think it's the mustache:eyebrows lol
I feel like our inner child watches these movies and takes over 😢❤. Don't blame yourself for crying ❤🤗
people speculate that luca and alberto are gay lovers . i disagree , it IS possible for two boys to be good buddies .
personally i think that alberto is jealous of luca at first because of his friendship with giulia
I seen this movie a billion times, it took til this reaction video to realize the cat has a mustache 😭😭😭
Luca's dad is comedian Jim Gaffigan. You should definitely look him up if you haven't heard his material.
“Hot Pockets.”

2:05 - Well I did not expect to ever see a Count Dankula reference on your channel. But now I like you even more, so...
11:47 this dad reminds me of the dad from "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs".
