After a traffic accident, Kazuma Sato's disappointingly brief life was supposed to be over, but he wakes up to see a beautiful girl before him. She claims to be a goddess, Aqua, and asks if he would like to go to another world and bring only one thing with him. Kazuma decides to bring the goddess herself, and they are transported to a fantasy world filled with adventure, ruled by a demon king. Now Kazuma only wants to live in peace, but Aqua wants to solve many of this world's problems, and the demon king will only turn a blind eye for so long...

By the end she often has the feel of a wife, rather than a girlfriend. She is shown she always forgives him easily and also accepts him no matter how flawed he gets. I don't know why people get hung up with that "more than friends, less than lovers line". It's not like you need a marriage certificate to know someone is in a relationship...
(And Kazuma's 'curse' -that he is always interrupted before getting intimate, is more a reflection of the author wanting to prevent the rating of the novel changing to 18+ at the time than anything else).

@@mikeluna2026 Yes, reading the light novel is clear as day that Megumin skipped a good chunk of steps, acting more like a devoted wife to Kazuma, and also the light novel detailed that in most of Kazuma's absences, she tended to pace around the mansion, and at every lap saying "He's not here".

@@TheNightOwl11683 I also think Darkness knows that Iris fell in love with Kazuma, that's why she made quite the emphasis to Kazuma on taking the ring to his deathbed.
But Iris got to know Kazuma better in a week than Darkness has done in a year, because yes Kazuma is a cowardly lion but Iris knows he's more than that, he will go through hell to help his loved ones and/or anybody who is in serious trouble, so Iris knows is just a matter of time before Kazuma defeats the demon king.

On one hand, I guess Kazuma's hand movements on Megumin in the Crimson Demon Village actually managed to STEAL Megumin's heart. On the other hand, I think Megumin just want an excuse to overthrow the monarchy and achieve her dream of being a Demon Lord.

Also Darkness doesn't believe Kazuma will defeat the demon king, she knows that Iris knows who's the masked thief is and that he has the ring, so Darkness setup what she believes is an empty oath, so Iris let Kazuma off her orbit, with her having faith that he will defeat the demon king.
@@schris3 The biggest irony being that, Kazuma's group has genuiely the biggest chance at actually achieving it. considering they defeated 3 of the demon king's generals (even if they received help, they were still the ones who did it), and befriended 2 of them.

Technically already should have happened... During volume 5 (which turned into the movie). But the movie cut a lot of content. They cut a teasing half assed confession by Megumin that affects Kazuma's choices later on (because he is always wondering if she was serious or not). They also cut Megumin bragging about "his man" in front of her classmates to tease them. But she does this right in front of Kazuma (which leaves him even more confused).
"Overthrow the Monarchy with my Explosion Magic" Megumin displays some "Bomb-Throwing Anarchist" vibe here. And with Soviet Yunyun, they truly complete a set.

She is kind vague and teasing so it leaves Kazuma confused because he doesn't know if she was serious or not. Some of his future choices are affected by this, so I wish they didn't cut it. Some of his choices may feel weaker without that context.

As strong as Darkness is, she was have a tad bit of trouble with Megumin. And by a tad, i mean a tad. And that is a pretty impressive feat for Megumin.
IIRC, Kazuma noticed it several times that his party would be much more effective if they just used their bare hands. They are really strong physically

@@syntheticreality549 I guess the op only saw the movie... Though that is kind of correct. The source material is a light novel and the anime hasn't even reached the middle of the story (barely reached volume 7 out of 17, plus multiple spinoffs).

Probably is what you're saying, but I think that as Claire saw Megumin's explosion, so she might be treading lightly around her, letting her get her steam out.
Claire will react violently irrespective of who shows disrespect to Iris. In this case however the problem would have been that Iris herself was directly freaking out, so interfering would have been tricky since it would risk offending her.

They cut it from the movie (volume 5 of the light novel). She gives Kazuma a vague and teasing confession so it leaves Kazuma confused because he doesn't know if she was serious or not (this happens on the 3rd night he sleeps in Megumin's room, which they also cut). Some of his future choices are affected by this, so I wish they didn't cut it. Some of his later choices may feel a bit weaker without that context.
