Hi Ziet. My account in IBKR is already approved. I don't know how and why, but it happened in 2,3 days, very quickly. May i ask you: How can i transfer money to IBKR to fund my account? I mean can i just use transferwise instead of a wire trasnfer with my bank? Do transferwise accept money in my local currency and exchange it into dollars to IBKR or i've to open a dollar account in my bank? Thank you
Hi David, that's great to know! I will never recommend one to use TransferWise (Wise) into IBKR directly from your country, reason being there may be complication down the road (fund being withhold, fund being investigated etc.) for which some forumers have faced. If you dont have a bank account with a currency that IBKR supports (like USD, JPY, SGD), then you are left with wire transfer from your local bank account. By doing this, you are converting your local currency into USD (with your bank) before it reaches IBKR. Hope this helps!
Hi CC, thanks for sharing. Though I have read from Lowyat forum that InstaReM users faced quite a bit of difficulties compared to Wise, not sure if I want to dwell with that since Wise is more fool-proof for now

@@Invesment1b Ah I see, withdrawing USD from Wise into your CIMB MY account? I believe that is possible, just use "international" instead of "same currency", then Wise will auto convert that USD to MYR before sending it off to your CIMB MYR account

Hi there, yup correct. When you convert, you need a bank account that can hold USD. CIMB SG cant hold USD. If you want to convert from MYR to USD directly, you can use a Foreign Currency Account or TransferWise borderless account, both are slightly slower than the CIMB SG method. Hope this helps!
Transferwise is slow and not friendly anymore, take at least one day to transfer. It will show your sending is paused after you pay. It wasnt like that.

Thank you for sharing. Any plans to create video guiding how to withdraw from IBKR (will it be back to your singapore CIMB)? I am using instarem (pretty fast) and might switch to transferwise (better exchange rate) in the near future. Also, i use these 3rd party tools (currently instarem) to transfer to ibkr (SGD) and it works, it takes less than two hours to reflect in IBKR.
Hi CM, yes, I do have plans for that since many are requesting for it, though I'm still thinking how it can be a standalone video because the withdrawal itself is a pretty simple content (From IBKR USD convert to SGD, then SGD local transfer to CIMB SG, then transferwise back to MYR bank account). Thanks for sharing your experience with InstaReM, definitely helpful for all of us here!
Thank you! Currently, i'm using this method IBKR USD to local bank MYR though the exchange rate is not great. So would like to see how we can optimize it but based on your approach, would it cost more because of the below; IBKR USD to local bank MYR vs IBKR USD to IBKR SGD to CIMB SGD to Transferwise MYR to Local bank MYR
@@imcm5743 Theoretically, and mathematically, the latter option (IBKR USD > SGD to CIMB SGD > TransferWise to Local Bank MYR) should cost lesser as the savings with spot rate FX (even dual conversion) should win over the bad spot rate FX. Hi, IBKR does not accept funding from 3rd party (Wise/TransferWise), so it is best for you to open a CIMB SG account (or any SG bank account) to facilitate the transfer into IBKR's SGD account
As Gatsby mentioned, I have not used BigPay myself, but my friends have tried and the FX is pretty much close to Spot Rate, so kudos to them for that. Though just to note, there's wallet limit of RM 10,000 (if im not mistaken), and most brokers don't accept funding via debit card

Hi there, technically you can't do it without a US bank account. The reason why you see some Malaysians were able to do it because they previously (like 2 years ago) opened a TransferWise Borderless account, which can then be linked up for ACH funding method. However, TransferWise has since removed the Borderless account from Malaysia because the local government somehow disallowed it. For now, we are theoretically not allowed to use the Borderless account service anymore, but those that have access still can use it (the app somehow did not remove it). Hope this helps!

Hi Ziet!! Thanks for such a clear guide video :) I have a question tho, if I wanna change my currency from myr to usd, does the receiving bank acc have to be an overseas acc? Or can I transfer from a local bank to another local bank? For example, BSN to Maybank.
Hi Samuel, I don't quite get your question & intention, but if you want to hold USD in Malaysian bank like a foreign currency account, you need to open a FCA here.
Otherwise, you can also do it in Malaysia with Wise USD Balance, can refer this video: th-cam.com/video/H99ohWsnoIM/w-d-xo.html

IBKR USD to IBKR SGD to CIMB SGD to Transferwise MYR to Local bank MYR
@@imcm5743 Theoretically, and mathematically, the latter option (IBKR USD > SGD to CIMB SGD > TransferWise to Local Bank MYR) should cost lesser as the savings with spot rate FX (even dual conversion) should win over the bad spot rate FX.
