You missed the fact the xperia 1 III has expandable storage. Which is one of the main points as to why I'm getting it.

That and the 3.5 audio jack is also the reason I'm switching to Sony Xperia 1 iii from my current S21 Ultra.

The brightness is half of others.
No control over resolution.
The battery size and longevity is slacking.
The speakers match 2 year old flagships.
The front camera hardware is dated.
The back camera is just good enough.
The phone is not even available.
The availability once released will be limited.
The marketing is non existent.
I can get a v60 at fraction of the cost with brighter screen, better battery, better headphone output, still has sd slot, the one generation difference in chip is negligible, and comparable speakers and camera.
Or a rog 5 that only lacks sd slot

Xperia 1iii has memory slot. It is dual sim capable with sim 2 being hybrid, so that can be used for memory card.
And 3.5 mm jack.

Forgot to say Xperia 1III has an SD card slot and a HEADPHONE JACK.
Plus the camera is a lot better beyond the numbers and the photography software looks great.
Camera is not better. Less saturation doesn't mean the whole image processing is better.

But for all the areas it's behind while still being severely over priced it's just as useless to me as new Samsung's or a crapple.

Some of your specs on the Xperia 1III are incorrect. The front camera is 8MP not 12 plus it has an SD card slot. It has battery care technology which give it a longer battery life than the average android phone. It’s not all about capacity most times it’s optimization.
Yeah, it does have fancy battery features, but so does samsung! Plus the Sony has a higher res screen which uses more battery. And the Sony has a smaller battery too. So I think that samsung has better battery life

Sony for sure! Sony Xperia 1 III expected price from some sources is estimated to be AU$1840 which would be about NZ$1,999. That's cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, which Samsung NZ charges NZ$2,199 (256GB) and NZ$2,499 (512GB version) AND.... has NO x AC adaptor x headphone jack x removable SD support. PLUS, Sony has better camera tech. Samsung sharpens the crap out of camera footage. With the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 III, it has 4k 120hz display, superior camera tech (thanks Sony), wind-noise reduction tech! And snapdragon processor. Australia and NZ only get the Exynos version. Plus with any Samsung flagship smarphone, after 18 months, you'll notice a big dip in battery endurance. Stop being a slave to Samsung and support Sony (XD).

The Sony wins it's not cutting corners on hardware! The tentative price, Headphone jack expandable memory, and the fucking charger in the box makes the win for me!

Screen is half the brightness, speakers match 2 year old flagships, the front camera is dated hardware, the back camera is just good enough, the battery size and longevity is slacking, etc.
The phone is not even released yet. And when it is it won't even be locally available to most or through a main carrier for most. And people won't even know it exists.
They cut corners on majority of the hardware, on the timing of the device, the availability, and the marketing.
Yet have a starting price... starting price... above anything else.
Except the Xperia 1 iii DOES have a memory card slot..hmm

Since SD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, 4k screen resolution are useless to me, Galaxy S21 Ultra is the obvious choice. Especially considering the fact that I can get S21U significantly cheaper right now then X 1III somewhere in July.

I do love both brand. But in this case i have to go with xperia, simply because of the chipset. Its way better than s21 exynos.
My only complain is just the battery life, and.. that according to my experience, is important. Especially if youre a mobile person.
Still i have no idea about the actual life of the battery until i tested it out myself, just like an iphone which only has below 4000mah, but can last quite long.
