TRADE PRICES! A closely guarded secret of most grey market watch dealers, they’ll only tell if you ask and actually nowadays, you’ll be lucky to even get an offer on your Rolex without needing to squeeze it out of them….it’s become almost customary lately that sellers will approach a dealer only to get the lackadaisical response of how much are you looking to get for it?
And you’ve done your research, you have a price in mind, you respond with such price suggestion only be left in most cases on ‘seen’.
Of course, the tables have turned the power of choice now lies in the hands of the dealers, for every reference that’s offered to them they can go and find another three on their dealer WhatsApp groups, they don’t need you and they don’t need your watch, they’ll take it only if the price is tempting enough and better than anywhere else!

I agree 100% that the BS circulating about the Pepsi being discontinued because Rolex have somehow forgotten how to make the bezel for it (seriously - people believe this?) is pure FOMO generated by dealers who are holding a bag of them. The price will collapse after Watches and Wonders when the model isn't discontinued.

Nice one Vinny. I've turned down a couple of AD offers this year, saying I didn't want them. I've only bought models I wanted in the past. There are a couple of Rolex still on the wish list but I'm looking at the grey market more and more as prices equalise. If I don't get what I want from the AD I feel confident I won't be overpaying by much if at all by years end. Rolex ADs are far from desperate but we're about 6/7 years on from seeing most models available in the window. That's the norm.

Just wait one year more and most Rolex models, including stainless steel GMT’s will be available RRP at AD’s and under retail at grey market dealers, just wait and you will see 😊
If the economies of major countries keep going into recession, very possible. Although don’t underestimate how much wealth there is in the world.
@@WestCoastAce27 the average customer of Rolex is a middle / upper middle class worker, those people no longer want to immobilize 10K $/€/£ into a piece of stainless steel, they now prefer keeping liquidity or invest the money, the only buyers who will remain in the market are watch enthousiasts like us and the majority of us can not afford multiple watches per year or even one watch priced over 10k$ every year and the last crazy prices increases make it even worse. This market is going to calm down for sure
I agree it’s not far off now with the majority of the catalogue available for retail or under. Only GMT Pepsi and a few other GMT models over retail and of course certain Daytona models. Maybe the odd OP also as Vinny mentioned in the video.
They will go out of fashion by that time. I’m pretty sure people will get Daytona and GMT fatigue by then. It’s nothing unique.

Majority of consumers developed the Rolex fatigue at this point. They were treated like trash by the AD upon asking for a professional SS reference, whilst in reality the AD was selling the stock back door to the grey dealers. Also, the whole watch trend sentiment is fading away fast. There are no more helicopter money, people are not locked up in homes anymore, they are spending money elsewhere. This is not the 2021 anymore. Rolex was never a premium price brand. I could get whatever I like at 15-25% OFF before 2018. Those times are coming back fast!
hmm interesting point, I would be shocked to see retail discounts being offered but who knows if they can’t shift solid gold pieces perhaps that’s where it will start
Technically, we already have discounts. Almost all YG daydates can be found bellow retail. Two tone datejusts and some steel datejusts as well. Even the two tone GMT GRNR can be found bellow retail in Germany in classifieds .. The AD's are still clearing the years old waiting lists and they are catching the last crayon eaters to sell them that 31mm diamond dial datejust. Once that dries up, we will see the discounts even at the AD @@vinnyfrancis

As the market and economy start taking more of a steeper downturn, it’s going to affect luxury items first, there will be less demand and the free market will dictate the price for watches

Ah yes the ‘paella vomit’ dial, really not a fan of the 41 version to be honest but it does still represent a big flip opportunity though is trading for much less than the discontinued tiffany now

Ive been offered a black submariner date from ad its alot of money for me and most likely will need to sell or exchange it one day will that hold its value? I dont follow price trends never really thought i would make the front of the waiting list

Call me crazy, I purchased my Gold Rolex last year as an award to myself for a life achievement. I cherish it and plan on keeping it forever, I didn’t buy it to flip. There must be something wrong with me.
Not at all that’s great and congrats! There are many however who are still buying to build a relationship so flipping watches they don’t want is an ongoing practice

124060 in the US market also pays sales tax so one would be in for ~$10k. Dealers may offer like $10.5k but definitely trending down.
can you explain how the ADs get watches allocated.. i have hard time to believe that they dont know what they will receive and that they have to pay for that inventory
I do believe the watches they receive is random but predictable based on their past deliveries, all i know for here in the UK that some stores get a LOT MORE stock than others particularly Manchester Trafford Centre is in the top 3 in the UK for deliveries

even for those watches that are sitting at a loss, there aren't many watch brands at this price range than can still offer that percentage of the rrp being returned if you decide to get out of the watch. Imagine buying a two tone breitling at RRP and wanting to get out of it after a year of gently wearing 😮
Haha. I just bought the Wimbledon 41 smooth and oyster. I passed on the fluted and jubilee. I just don’t like the “sparkly” look. But it will stay with me and will left to my kid(s).
I'm collecting the two two fluted jubilee on Thursday, I'm a sucker for some bling but considering I hear the Wimbledon is a sought after dial it's only the steel fluted jubilee that is overlist, the rest are underlist. But anyway, buying for me to keep of course. Congrats on your new watch.

Sure thing, in the UK these can be picked up as low as £9000 now, personally i would prefer early 2000’s reference which will be more, I also prefer original bezels, lots have service bezels or non genuine ones so look out for that
That’s selling to grey dealers however grey dealers still charges well over retail which means don’t pass if yiu want the watch. Don’t buy it for investment or flip

The crazy part is in America the prices are not the same as England the gmt 2 two tone at the AD is 16,500 and in the grey market there asking 21,000 to 22,000 so you can stilll make a few bucks on that watch here so I’m confused the watch market is crazy

@@vinnyfrancismany Americans (including myself) forget that you refer to prices in £, about 20% more than our $. Thus, hearing " it's about 10000, we think $. We need to take that and add $2000 to get the equivalent cost. No notable price differential, actually.
The Pepsi manufacturing issues are true. Have you not seen all the ones cracked during service? The blue does not bind correctly with the red.
yet they’ve been manufacturing them since 2019? if it were such an issue why keep it running for 5 years
@@vinnyfrancisagain, rumours, but very few make the grade during the quality control process. It’s why they have changed the color 3 or 4 times since the relaunch. I know someone’s who’s cracked in warranty and he was given a different, less vibrant shade of blue. Look how that blue has got darker. Rolex have published a guide on the manufacturing process and how they are sintered. It is no coincidence that all the other GMTs are black - it is far easier to sinter once the primary color gets put on first. Just like when playing with paint- black covers anything. They have preserved because it’s the Pepsi - one of their icons.

i'm dying for an airking (126900), and can't seem to get one from my AD. he's sold me a dj41 and root beer over the course of a year, but no airking in spite of waiting for more than a year. and i absolutely refuse to pay above rrp.

Great watch the Air King should be able quite easily to pick one up from the AD. Pop in regularly people who was on the list are turning watches down daily.

Rolex authorized dealers know what the watches are trading for in the secondary market and are keeping a profile and purchasing history for each customer and of course they are not going to sell watches that trade above Msrp to people without having a purchase history of supporting the brand and buying watches that trade below Msrp and flippers are going to be banned because of fear of losing the authorized dealership from Rolex suspecting they are in cahoots and being greedy with flippers!!!!!!
retail prices have gone up so much
I got offered 9.5k for a new Sub Non Date.
But the formula is pretty simple:
A) Is it popular?
B) Is it a steel sportswatch
C) is it a GMT
If it's yes to the first two, probably a flip, if it's yes to all 3, 100% flip.
Some exceptions are premium configs like DJ fluted jubilee with motif dial, or OP Celebration.
Golden rule, anything two tone or solid PM is not a flip. Simple.
from a uk dealer you got offered 10k? absolutely no chance mate when they’re selling for under that, not at all.

The only new Rolex I actually want at the moment is a 124060. The rest are vintage or neo vintage. I really think the ADs have shot themselves in the foot long term with how they've treated customers over the last 4 years. Now that the flippers are leaving in droves and the economy has meant less people have the disposable income to buy luxury items like this, the naive loyalty that some showed to their ADs in hopes of getting certain watches is drying up. Rolex as a brand will always be top dog with the way they maintain their market position, but the days of people bending over backwards and paying ridiculous sums of money for fairly ordinary watches in comparison to what you could buy for equal money are well gone. Perhaps them buying Bucherer is because they foresaw this happening.
Rolex sales dropped 25% in China and 19% in HK. Asia market is still trying to hold and cook the prices. Totally senseless.

I would never sell my Rolex. I love my Rolex and I enjoy it. I wear it every day for good 10 to 15 hours. Thanks to my AD

You also have to include the taxes with the watch is originally purchased. That adds to the loss of a reseller offers retail.
Excellent Video. Good to see some sensibility coming back to the market and in fairness I see it continuing to drop through the floor. The financial markets are going to be seeing a monumental crash towards Q4 with investment portfolios collapsing thanks to the interest rate holding with the BOE. Smart money is moving away from luxury goods. We’re going to see a drop like no other this year.
Don’t think i would be quite this pessimistic, i think the outlook for the rest of the year is likely to be quite boring and stagnant
@@vinnyfrancisvery likely. There’s a ton of wealth in the world. Most of the people getting layoff/redundancy aren’t Rolex buyers. Short of WWIII sideways is most likely. And BTC is pumping so young men may sell some off to get the watch of their dreams.
Momentum can cut in both direction.
